I watch her as she fingers the feather tattoo on the side of her neck. She’s teasing Mason Richards, who in turn, is practically drooling over Sunny. My stomach twists in my body and I clench my fist.

Dan is sleeping next to me at the lap table and I think about punching Mason; Dan would understand. He hates when guys ogle at his sister. But Sunny would be pissed and would take ages to forgive me.

It’s okay when Dan protects Sunny because, well, he’s her brother. But when anyone else interferes with what she does, they’re dead to her.

—Right, Mr. Day?” Mrs. Linse, our ancient Physics teacher asks Dan.

Dan’s head shot up. “Yes – of course Mrs. Linse.” He answers, scrambling for words. His eyes looked huge and doe-like. Like a deer caught in the headlights. Everyone stares at him.

Mrs. Linse huffed but continued on with her lecture.

“Thanks a lot for the heads up, King.” Dan hisses at me. His face held a smile on it so I knew he wasn’t really mad at me. “I thought you were supposed to have my back.”

“Sorry, man. I was distracted.” I whisper back half halfheartedly, still staring at Sunny.
