My Homes' With You

8 ~ He What?

For years people have tried to understand the mind of a killer, how and why killers can kill without feelings or regret. How are they able to do it? How can they stay so calm? What would stop them? Do they feel love?

It’s true, not all killers are calm, and some are the craziest people on the planet. Some are so dangerous they are a threat to themselves. However some are calm, the least likely ones, the people who have families but hide their true identities in fear of being locked away, isolated from the rest of the world.

But one thing is certain, they all followed primitive instincts. They allowed the animal side of them to take control. They accepted the idea of “the strong survive and the weak fall”. They acted before thinking. They thought of number one. They acted more like animals than humans, people love animals, why are killers any different? Lions eat lions, ants eat ants, and fish eat fish. Why is killing a human any different from a fish killing a fish? You’re more likely to get a dead mouse from a killer than a bunch of roses.

People get pet cats, dogs, rabbits, mice, ferrets, snakes, spiders, monkey, wolves and foxes. Aren’t these animals dangerous in some way?

People are willing to travel miles around the world to see and touch tigers, lions, bears, elephants, pythons and so many more dangerous creatures. Can’t these animals kill or squash you in a second if they wanted?

If killers are more like animals and people are willing to travel and risk lives to save the animals they love, could a person love a killer? Is there a single person who could see pass the murderer and see the person, love them and stay with them.

Thierry hoped with all the human in him that Sky would…He accepts her…but can she love him? He was going to find out…tonight…

********************************************************

Four days have passed since Sky had woken up that day. Jade was still mad and angry at her for no reason at all, annoying as ever. Mr and Mrs “Glass” were the same, weary of Jade and her brother but delighted to have Sky. As for Thierry, he was hanging around her more, staring, listening and ready to help her if she ever needed anything…but he never talked to her unless you count one word answers as talking…imagine the joy Sky gets from the conversations...

The night sky: dark and gloomy, rain pouring, clouds covering all the stars and the fire in the house burning, the only light for miles. Sky and Mrs Glass were on either side of the fire since they were the most fragile and sewing up holes in broken blankets, Jade was a few places away from them, glaring at Sky with an evil smile on her face. Mr Glass and his son, on the other side of the room, drinking water and watching the women, waiting for something to happen.

“Sky” Jade’s voice rang inside the house “you know you said you were weak? How can you pick up a needle?” She giggled at her own lame joke, Thierry’s eyes glaring at his sister. Leave her alone, thought Thierry.

“Jade, be nice” Mr Glass’s voice was a warning, Jade don’t be stupid.

“Okay father but seriously, she is pathetic if she wasn’t allowed to do normal girl things. What’s it like being the odd girl Sky?” an evil smile spread across her face. Not good, Mrs Glass could feel a lot of negativity in the room.

“Sky’s face was no longer happy, she had stopped sewing, no emotion was present on her face unless you bothered to look, then you’d see tears in her eyes. She was just staring at her hands as Jade threw more insults at her, who said words could never hurt you? They were wrong, because at that moment, everything Jade said was like a pin being forced into her heart, small, quick and painful. Please stop…

Thierry walked over to Sky, knelt beside her and held her hand for split second while he slipped something into her hands. He then walked off but not before looking back at Sky and saying to himself: I hope she likes it. He then looked at Jade. As soon as Jade made eye contact she sucked in a breath and her whole body froze, Thierry had his killing look in his eyes. A tear fell down her face as she waited for her brother to strike her, he always spoke to her then hit her when she did something wrong. Thierry leaned down and whispered in her ear: “Leave her alone, I like her” Jade could feel the tear slowly falling down her face as she watched her brother leave her and walk out the house door, instead of hit her. He likes her…he likes her…he said it…he likes her…her not me…he likes her… then she fainted with “JADE!” as the last thing she heard.

*********************************************************

Thierry had just gotten out of the house when he heard his sister’s name get shout out. He didn’t care what happened to Jade. He wouldn’t care if she had fainted, cried, ran away, got eaten but he went back because Sky had shouted and she sounded scared. The only thought going through Thierry’s mind as he heard her voice was …my Sky… He turned around and went straight back into the house, ignoring his unconscious sister and making his way to the girl who was constantly on his mind Sky...

*******************************************************

“Here’s the water Mrs Glass” After Jade had passed out Sky ran straight to her side, waiting to help her even if Jade had insulted her. The thing Sky found weird was as soon as she had shouted Thierry came running straight into the room but he didn’t go to his sister, he went straight to Sky and sat beside her, watching her with his cold grey eyes, eyes that never seemed to loose focus.

Jade’s face was damp from the clothes being dabbed on her face, making sure she didn’t get a fever. She had been placed in front of the fire to keep her warm and dry while she slept. For five hours the family and Sky waited for Jade to wake up, but she didn’t she stayed asleep and untouchable. After waiting, waiting and waiting with no results, Mrs and Mrs Galls decided it would be better to go to bed then stay up and get ill. When they could just check on her in the morning. Sky had offered to stay up and look after Jade for a bit longer, she couldn’t help but feel sorry for the younger girl, how can you help someone after they’ve done nothing but hurt you? I’ll never know, but I hope you teach Thierry something, god forbid, he needs it. Mrs Glass smiled to herself inside as she pictured her son being normal, imaging herself and her family returning to the village to live a normal life.

Sky was sitting right next to Jade with Thierry sitting RIGHT behind her with his head on her shoulder, saying nothing, just enjoying being so close to someone he liked. “do you think she’ll be okay?” Sky couldn’t help but be worried, she was never able to hold a grudge.

Thierry like always said nothing, he just carried on staring at nothing.

“Please say something…Thierry? She’s your sister.”
Without moving, he merely stated “She deserves it.”

Sky didn’t know what to say, his sister was out cold and wouldn’t wake up and that’s all he had to say about it. “How can you say that?”
Thierry looked confused. “She was upsetting you.”
“But she doesn’t deserve this, I mean look at her face, she’s pale and…” Sky stopped and stared at Jade’s neck. She leaned over and covered her mouth.

There on Jade’s neck where her hair would normally be, was a giant bruise and a cut that looked as if someone had started to draw a picture of the sky. Thierry noticed that Sky hadn’t finished her sentenced or moved for a couple of seconds. What’s the matter with her? He nudged her a bit, hoping to get her attention but failing. She still isn’t moving. That’s when he saw it.

The night that he had seen Sky dancing by the lake, he found out he wasn’t the only one, he remembered hurting Jade and he didn’t feel bad about it, she had insulted Sky.

“What happened to her neck?” Thierry looked at his Sky, which was a mistake, because he was so close, when he turned his head he ended up kissing her cheek. Oh shit…

As soon as his lips made contact with her skin, Sky jumped to the side and stared at Thierry breathless. Did he just…

“Sky” Thierry was holding a hand out to her, as if it was a confirmation for whether she liked him or not.

“Why did you do that?” Thierry said nothing; he just simply put his hand closer to her and carried on staring at her. His eyes staring straight at her, not moving a single muscle, water building up in his eyes, making it look as if he was crying. The light from the fire bouncing off his eyes, revealing a frowning face. He pushed his hand out closer to her, willing her to take it, his face getting sadder at every second she didn’t take it. He looks like a hurt wolf, he looks so sad, she started to zone out.

“Sky” his voice brought her back to reality. But his hand was no longer holding out to her, it was on top of her hand gently, as if he was ready for her to pull away. Instead she moved closer to him and gave him a small kiss on the cheek. With a bright red face, she turned around and started to look after Jade again, unaware of Thierry staring and smiling behind her back, maybe she could be mine…

While she cared to his sister, Thierry hugged her from behind and rested his head on her shoulder. This time he was unaware of his parents watching with smiles on their faces.

“He looks so happy with her, like he use to when he was a baby. Do you remember those days?” Mrs Glass whispered to her husband just so the two lovebirds wouldn’t hear them. Even if her husband didn’t remember the old days she did, she smiled at the memories.

“Yes I do, but don’t get too happy. This won’t last”
“Richard! How do you know? Sky’s different and is still alive. All his other girlfriends he killed after two days and its been over a week!”

“But he’s still a killer, he’s only just come of his leash! He’s still like a wild wolf, he can’t control himself and can’t be trusted alone with Sky, yet alone any of us. I’m terrified of going hunting with him on my own. We need to find her family and get her on her way before he becomes too attached.”

“I think you’re a little too late and I disagree. I think she should stay.” My son is happy for the first time in his life…he’s becoming normal.

“How can you think that? Yes I agree she is different and she’s quite a beautiful girl but still a bit plain. She’s kind and generous and hardly selfish: one of a kind. When she finds out our real surname and sees the real Thierry she will run and freak out and I never want to see Thierry hurt. God knows how many people he’ll kill.”

“He won’t kill”

“How can you be so certain?”

Anna smiled at her husband. “looks at him.” Her husband did as she said. “Now look at the two of them and only the two of them.” Again he did as he was told and was able to see his son hugging Sky who was looking after his daughter. He also looked hard enough to see Thierry give Sky a kiss on the cheek and Sky blush in return.

“He kissed Sky…”

“He what?!” Anna seemed shocked…Thierry saying “hello” is sometimes the most likely thing to give the two of them a heart attack. They both looked at the two future lovebirds on the floor.

They saw Sky just jump to the side, moving further away from Thierry, they saw Thierry holding his hand out to Sky, waiting for her to hold his. He’s waiting for her to make the decision…he’s not taking control…he’s being calm and respective…he’s being normal…

The two of them watched in suspense as Sky seemed to be debating whether to take his hand or not, then they were surprised again when she leaned close to him and return a kiss to his cheek. What Richard and Anna found the most amusing was the look on Thierry’s face after Sky had turned, he looked like a little kid who had been given his very first toy; happy, glowing and smiling.

“And you want her to leave” Anna was smiling as if Christmas had come early. Oh yeah who won this conversation…I think I did!!! Her husband grabbed her hand and smiled, then his face quickly took on a frown.

“Let’s just hope she stays when she finds out the truth.”
