A Hero of War

A Hero of War

This is written for my fallen soldier.

Its been two years and to cope with him being gone I've decided to write about it. This is how it started:
May 16, 2008

As cliche as small towns are I live in the one all the others were probably inspired by. Average hard working people where everyone knows everyone, young and old.
Football games were big and all were filled with town pride. White pickett fences and apples with lemonade spending Indian summers at the lake. As nice as it sounds it just
isn't enough for some, like me for example you could say Im the definition of a dreamer. Wanting to get away from this small town and go somewhere and do something big
with my life, with my bestfriend by my side ofcourse haha can't go anywhere without him. Matt - my partner in crime since we were five (he tried taking my chocolate milk, and
lets just say I wasn't haven that). Hes that goodhearted troublemaker of the town, will do the craziest thing and get away with it using his charm and that smile, nobody can
resist it I guess? never worked on me though, I always call him out on everything.

Matt P.O.V
"Hey Matt will you get the mail?" my mom called down the hallway. "Yeah" I called back walking out of the house. It was a bit of a walk to the mailbox cause of
our house being on so much farmland. My dog Bella came up behind me as I reached it. Pulling the mailbox opened it creaked with age. I grabbed the mail sifting through it
quickly when one letter caught my attention. I paused for a second just staring at it. The eagle and star at the corner underneath reading U.S. Army, the eagle's eyes staring back
at me menacingly. I took a deep breath and slid it into my back pocket walking back up to the house. When I got inside I tossed the stack of bills and junkmail on the table briskly
walking to my room shutting and locking the door. I took the letter out and sat down on my bed once again only staring at the envelope. "Guess this is it" I said to myself slowy
tearing the envelope open and pulling out the letter inside. I unfolded the Army stationary letter and began to read.

Dear Mr. Mathew Sanders,
The United States Military has reviewed your enlistment form and are honored to inform you that you have been approved to become a service member for your country.
It is a brave and noble choice that you have made and we thankyou for your willingness and support. If you succeed you will foever be one of America's elite warriors with a proud
bond that cannot be broken. We are glad that you have decided to seize this important opportunity to defend our nation and spreed the message of freedom to others as a United States
Army member....................

I didn't bother going beyond those sentences, the point was already made clear and soon I'd be shipped off to war.
