Darling,

six

“I don’t understand,” he mumbles, staring at her sitting at the table.
“Neither do I,” she says softly. He narrows his eyes. “You got rid of everything.”
“And that surprises you?!” he exclaims, throwing his hands out slightly in exaggeration. “You left! You made a big deal about how you didn’t love me anymore, how you made a mistake by ever meeting me! And you expected me to expect you back? That I would just accept you in with open arms even if you did?”
“You thought I was serious?” she scoffs, standing.
“Yeah, yeah I did. Seeing as you were gone for six months.”
“Oh boo-fucking-hoo.”
“This isn’t a joke, Gretchen. This isn’t a game.”
It’s very quiet for a long time as she stares hard into his eyes before relaxing and crossing her arms.
“Everything’s a game, Collin. Just waiting to end.”

"And if only my true love were waiting
if I could hear her heart softly pound
If only she were lying by me
And she could sleep in my arms once again."
