The death of Angel Dumott Schunard was simply a statistic.

In the midst of the epidemic, few had time for the individual cases. All they saw was the death toll gradually mounting higher and higher and the certificates being filed uncaringly, all bearing the same words:

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.

But the death of Angel Dumott Schunard meant more to his friends.

It meant the end.

Not only the end of the friend who never cared what anyone else thought, who was always his own person, who laughed and loved, but the end of their group as they knew it.
