The Team

Day 1

It's my first day at the BAU and I have to admit I'm pretty nervous. My name is Bailey Veil. I'm thirty-three and an ex-cop from Seattle. My boss and I had a....disagreement. My husband is in a federal prison on a drug bust during a murder case that we had nothing to do with. Brendan doesn't do drugs, just deals them. He gets out pretty soon though. I said I'd never be that wife that divorces her husband in prison. I hope I can go that month. I think we just need some reconnecting. Brendan and I don't have kids. We've been together for about fifteen years; married for thirteen.

I sat at my desk. It was very blah. I took out a picture of Brendan and my nephew together. My brother has no idea Brendan and his son have ever meet, let alone have a picture together. In the picture my nephew's about three. I took him to the prison to see Brendan. If my brother ever found out I'd be dead.

My phone rang.

"Hello?"
"Hey hottie."
"Hi Brendan."
"So what are you up to?"
"I'm at work."
"Well aren't you gonna ask what I'm doin'?"
"Brendan, you're in a federal prison. What are you gonna do?"
"You okay, babe?"
"I was just thinking."
"That can't be good."
"Brendan, you really don't realize how hard it is on me."
"What?"
"You being in and out of jail. It's so hard on me."
"Bailey, it's not what I want to be doing."
"Then stop Brendan. I love you, but I can't do this. I want a family. A life. I don't want my conversations monitored. Brendan, I want kids. We can't do that if you're locked up."
"I do too, Bailey."
"Then promise. Promise me you won't do anything wrong anymore. You'll be home with me. Promise me that right now, Brendan."
"I promise."
"You'll be there?"
"Give me a month."
"I'm hoping you're talking about the month you have left."
"Yep. You think I'll be good with kids?"
"Yes. Oh my God. You were amazing with Jack."
"I'd like to see him again."
"In a month."
"Bail, my times up. Love you."
"Love you Brendan."

The phone went dead and a buzzing sound came through. I closed my cell and put it on my desk. I stared at the picture of Jack and Brendan. If he could just stay out of jail he'd be perfect. Some one tapped my shoulder.

"Can I help you?" I asked spinning around.
"Hi. I'm Penelope Garcia. You are?"
"Bailey."
"This is gonna seem really nosy, but who's the guy in the picture?"
"My husband, Brendan. The kid's my nephew."
"He's adorable. And your husband ain't bad either."
"Thanks Penelope."
"You can call me Garcia. So what are you doin' here?"
"I got fired."
"What did you do?"
"I was a cop. I had a disagreement with my boss. I think I've seen you before."
"Your name's Bailey, right?"
"Bailey Veil."
"Oh mi God. Bailey. We have not talked in a very long time."
"You're tellin' me."
"Brendan gets out in a month. He's in a federal prison."
"We could visit him."
"He only gets one visitor a week."
"We're federal agents."
"Penelope, did I ever tell you I love you?"
Everyday, my bestie. Everyday."

A amn came up to Penelope and I.

"Hey BabyGirl," he said.
"Hey HotStuff."
"Who's your friend?"
"Bailey Veil. Derek Morgan."

"Derek Morgan," I whispered to myself. "Penelope can you find the arresting officer for Brendan about seven years ago?"
"Be back in ten."

Ten minutes later Penelope came back with a file and rushed step.

"You'll never guess who it was," she said.
"Aaron Hotchner."
"I take that back."
"You interrogated him, didn't you Morgan? You thought he killed Matthew Pettison."
"That was seven years ago."
"I know."

Aaron came up behind Morgan, but I could see him.

"Garcia, did JJ give out the case already?"
"No, sir. This is something else."
"There's JJ now."

I looked and saw a blonde woman. I followed Aaron, Penelope and Morgan.
