Burn It to the Ground

Like Wounded Soldiers In Need Of Healing

Kassia's POV

"No, don't take me away. No, don't leave me with that. NO! Don't take me there- Ah! Alright, I'll fight you back in China!"

I jolted upright dynamically, feeling little beads of sweat rolling down my face. One of the strangest nightmares of my life; being attacked by mad, bigoted pandas; what has my world come to? My head was spinning rapidly as if it was being bombarded with bricks, probably because of all the booze I had consumed. I acknowledged two familiar faces however, standing at the foot of the bed and staring at me with bewilderment.

“Do you always stalk people in their sleep?” I asked them stupidly, running a hand through my sweltering red hair.

Sam and Dean exchanged quick glances before turning back to me. “Do you always shout out random things in your sleep?” Sam mocked jokingly, raising an eyebrow at me in amusement.

I rolled my eyes repulsively. “Hey, if you had a nightmare with freakin’ killer pandas attacking you, wouldn’t you do the same?” He shook his head, noticing that his expression dropped into more serious. I couldn’t help but grow concerned. “Why are you here anyway? Shouldn’t you be over with Maura?” Saying my sister’s name aloud almost made me want to throw glass objects against the wall, just to hear the ear-popping shatter amongst the room.

An irritated sigh came from Sam’s mouth as Dean now chimed in with a repetitive grin. “My brilliant brother over here let your sister unattended to go fetch her booze.”

“You make it sound worse than what it really is,” Sam shot back hastily and staring at Dean sternly. “Maura had the door locked and she said the only way she would open it was if I bought her alcohol.”

Sam was way too credulous to fall for that, or so I thought. Yes, Maura may rely on booze when she’s under a lot of stress like I do, but come on. Anybody in their right mind wouldn’t leave my maniac sister for beer- unless; Sam really did care about her… but still- why? “YOU LOST MY SISTER!?” I screeched loudly, gawking at the puzzled 6’ 3” man who clearly didn’t have any concept as to using his brain- upstairs brain anyway.

"I didn't lose her," he replied calmly while gritting his teeth.

"Do you know where she is?"

"No."

"Then you lost her."

Sam gave me and his brother an annoyed look as Dean stood there snickering away. "Hey, don't look at me I didn't tell her to say that." declared Dean, defensively throwing his hands in the air. Apparently, he had said something similar to him not to long before. That would explain the bothered expression across Sam’s face.

I let out a small sigh and shook my head. "Good, now I hope a fucking werewolf eats her heart out- oh wait, the bitch doesn't have a heart- my bad." Neither one of them thought my comment was amusing. I was actually being quite serious. Maura had me so fired up it was making my blood boil. If she was dense enough to run out in the middle the night in a creepy-ass town like Alba, where people have gone suicidal and might eventually kill others too, be my guest as to finish her off for me.

A frown spread upon Sam's face, looking back at me feebly. "If she's so heartless, why would she care so much about you and go out of her way to make sure you're safe?" He did have a point there, but I wasn't going to admit that to her lover boy. "We all know she can be a little- uh..."

"Bitch," I concluded grimly and folding my arms over my chest. "She is a bitch. I know that all too well, but Maura and I both tend to have major issues after what we've been through over the years."

Dean started mumbling something, which I only caught the part when he said about PMSing woman. I narrowed my eyes at him and punched his forearm hard, only to make him flinch back and laugh. Sam rolled his eyes up in his head before stating, "Dean and I have our issues too," as his brother frowned at him. "But that doesn't mean we never work things out. So, are you coming with us to go look for her or are you going to be stubborn and stay here?"

I was slightly startled by Sam's willpower on trying to convince me that finding my sister was a big deal. As mad as I was with Maura and I wanted to knock the living daylights out of her when I saw her, she was my big sister- I cared about her more than I'd like to confess. She may have been the one who started the physical combat in the middle of the road, but I was the one liable for the pissed off rage I expressed. Like I said before, if something would happen to her I couldn't help but feel responsible. Confidently, I shrugged my shoulders smirking back at him. "I call shotgun."

Heavy classic rock blasted through the Impala speakers as we drove down a country back road. I had my cell phone pasted to my hands, after I had numerously attempted to get a hold of Maura. Feeling like a complete worry wart like my big sister, I drummed my fingers on the side of the door nervously with racing thoughts, just hoping that Maura was alright and hadn't gotten herself in too much trouble. My body was all jittery and tense. It only got worse the more I got her answering machine every time, but after the huge blow up that night- what kind of person would?

I swallowed hard while staring intently out at the dark, ghostly night. If Maura went back into town, there wasn't much in Alba that she would get lost. However, if she was still in Jasper County there were a lot of places she could go. A woman as headstrong as my sister could be anywhere.

Dean's POV

Not really sure what it was that Sam said that talked Kassia into finding her sister, but I've never seen the girl so worried before. Her eyes glued out the window, her mind deep in thought; I could only imagine what she was going through. She was in a pretty serious argument with Maura no more than an hour or two ago, and now she's eager to find her sister. It was a sibling instinct I guess, no matter how well your relationship was with them. Sam and I were the same way.

Once we got into Alba, the streets were poorly lit leaving an uneasy peculiar feeling within the small town. There was no sign of life within a three mile radius so it seemed. Maura could have gone anywhere. Alba was just the first place to look since this is where the case had taken place, so it was possibly she went back there to do some hunting on her own. Where had the good day gone?

An exasperating groan came from Kassia sitting in the passenger seat beside me. “Damn it, this is useless! She could be god-knows-where by now.”

“Hey look,” Sam said intently from in the back seat, leaning over and pointing at the road straight ahead of us. There sat the well-known black and gold Firebird, aimlessly parked in a dreary stone parking lot that was only accompanied by a warehouse-like building. A smile spread across my face, relieved to known that Maura didn’t flee the state quite yet. I drove the Impala down the road and into the water-puddle filled lot. The car was abandoned which meant that most likely Maura was inside the building. It left me wondering if she had found something more out about the case that the rest of us weren’t certain with.

Kass was the first one to dash out of the car before I could cut the engine, followed by Sam seconds later. After getting out of the Impala, I realized that the air was becoming unpleasantly cold unlike earlier in the day as the rain continued to lightly fall from the eerie sky. I got a better view of the warehouse, which appeared as if it had been vacant for a few years; broken out windows, some vines growing up the side of the decrepit brick building- pretty much your typical place to find a kidnapped person and leave you with that uncanny feeling.

“Well, doesn’t this look like pleasant?” I noted hesitantly, retrieving my pistol as I noticed Sam doing the same from a few yards away. Kassia was already taking prudence and making her way inside the building with a sawed-off shotgun. Of all the places in the world, we were going into an abandoned warehouse building- like we don’t go into run-down, ghostly structures enough.

As we crept into the building taking every caution seriously, the atmosphere was damp, cold and dark- sort of like a basement but with an alarming edge. Kassia stood inside the door glancing around the three-way passage, shining her small flashlight in front of her. The rain was calmly pounding against the aluminum roof, followed shortly by dripping water echoing down the halls. “I think we should split up,” Sam suggested, using his flashlight to luminate one of the murky corridors. Kassia however gave him a disapproving grin. “After the last time we split up, I think we should stick together.” She replied sternly as she began to stroll down the darkest walkway. “Come on.”

Our pacing started to pick up once we followed Kass veering up and down the lonely hallways, in an urgent hunt for her sister. Her determination made a smile stretch across my face, but I wasn’t really sure why. Suddenly, a loud gun shot went off which sounded like at the other end of the building. Then, there was another, and another. We all gawked back at each other, wondering if we were just hearing things or it was a real shot being fired. The three of us darted hastily through the bloodcurdling building, hoping to find Maura and maybe if we were lucky, we’d face come across whatever had the town so in the depths of despair.

Abruptly, there was a voice talking wearily in the distance. Then, there was another- a male and a female. It was awkward, knowing that the one was hopefully Maura, but who was the other? Kass sprinted speedily in through one of the open, rusty doors. Sam and I quickened our pace and followed her in, but realized she was stopped dead in her tracks. We nearly ran into her but luckily halted in time. My eyes wandered amongst the dull, clammy room. There Maura stood wide-eyed at us, but promptly returned her attention back to a dark-haired man about ten feet across from her. I heard Sam swallow firmly as the man slowly turned his head over his shoulder. My heart stopped, eyes bulging as I couldn’t believe what I was seeing before me.

“Dad?” both Sammy and I gasped in an astounded tone. Was this the real deal or was I having one of those strange dreams again, where Dad was okay? Hell, was the day getting more dramatic by the hour or what?
