All That Glitters
It was just a few minutes before midnight. The air was damp and cold, the stars glittered against the menacing black sky, and it was only slightly louder than silent. This was the time the fairies came out.
She was bright, not only intellectually but physically--she literally sparkled. With every move she made, the sound of bells tinkled and synchronized with her wings in flight. When she flew, the naked eye could only spot a blue-green blur with smudges of magenta around the orb. Then they saw the wand, a green-striped stick with a shiny golden spark at the end.
No one knew her name, mostly because she never stayed in the same place for too long. She did her job--inducing thoughts, relieving troubled minds, and brewing dreams and confidence; fairies like her didn't grant wishes. Sometimes she wished she could grant herself wishes. All she wanted was love, and at the end of the day, she wanted someone to meet her at the door and embrace her into a loving circle. But no one knew her name and no one knew her voice. That was her life's downfall, until that one fateful night.
