Downsizing
It’s been a week and you are at work typing something up when Logan comes in.
“Hello Abby,” Logan said.
“Hello Logan,” You said.
You look at him.
“We need to talk,” Logan said.
“Oh ok, want to go in your office?” you ask.
“No It’s better if we stay here.”
“Ok, what is it?”
“We are downsizing.”
“Oh ok”
“We need to lay some people off.”
“I see”
“I’m sorry Abby, you are the newest person working here but…”
“When is it in affect?”
“Today”
“Ok, I pack up and be gone.”
“Abby understand…”
“It’s fine Logan this is business, I get it.”
“How are you and boyfriend doing now?”
You look at him and shake your head.
“You shouldn’t ask me that question,” You said.
You pack up the few things you have at the desk and go out and call Jeremy.
“Hello,” Jeremy said.
“Jeremy,” You said close to tears.
“Hey Abby what up? You spouse to be working?”
“I got fired.”
“I be right to your house.”
“Thanks.”
“No problem, keep clam ok.”
“Ok.”
You drive home and Jeremy comes and hugs you tight. You guys go to your room and lay down on the bed.
“It be ok Abby, its fine,” Jeremy said.
“I don’t have a job, how can I take care of Tony?” You ask him.
“We are moving in together. We are staying together. I make way more then enough money to take care of you two and our kid and spoil them like I do Katrina.”
“But Jeremy.”
“It be fine, you can start looking a bit after the baby born ok?”
“Ok?”
You cuddle in to Jeremy. He starts playing with your hair.
“It be ok Abby, we be ok, you and Tony are going to be just fine,” Jeremy said.
“Thanks,” You said.
“No problem, hey it’s only eleven what to go shopping for these sheets I have to have?”
“Yeah I guess.”
You get up and Jeremy hands you his hoddie. You put it on.
You walk to Tony school and walk him back.
“Had fun today?” You ask.
“Yeah mom,” Tony said.
You look at him and kiss his head.
“Do you want Cookies?” You ask.
“Yeah,” Tony said.
You make some cookies and then help him with his homework. Johnny comes while Tony is playing with legos.
“Jeremy told me,” Johnny said.
“Um?” You ask.
“You moving in with him, losing your job.”
“Yep.”
“How are you felling?”
“I’m useless.”
“Trust me honey you are anything but useless. Jeremy does his job at his house, so he will be there to entertain you while the kids are at school.”
You sigh and Johnny put his hand on your shoulder.
“It’s just till the baby is eating. I’m sure he won’t mind you working after the baby is born, and he can take care of it. It might he want you home more. Didn’t you always want to be a house wife?” Johnny asks.
“If I was married to him it be different Johnny, we just moving in because I’m pregnant,” You said.
“If it counts for something, Jeremy loves you, I know he is serious about you guys lasting.”
You sigh and look at Johnny.
“Plus you hated being a lawyer half of the time”
There is a knock on the door. You get it and see a flower guy.
“Flowers for Abby,” The guy said.
“It’s me,” You said.
“Sign here.”
You sign for the flowers. You sit it on the table and smile knowing they came from Jeremy. You call him.
“Hello,” Jeremy said.
“I got the flowers,” You said.
“Did they bring a smile to your beautiful face?”
“Yes it did, Thank you.”
“No problem, I thought they would help, How is Tony?”
“Good.”
“That’s good, so I come over with Katrina and get the room together?”
“Yeah sounds good bye”
“Bye”
You hang up.
