I Can't Stop Digging the Way You Make Me Feel

As The Muggles Say, "Truth Will Out!"

"Come on you lot, we have to get to breakfast now if we don't want to be late again! Binns said he'd give you a weeks worth of detention if you were late for class again;"

"Just a second, Katie-Kat. We're giving this one last try."

Emilie took out a the last piece of candy from the box she was holding and placed it in George's hand.

"Nosebleed Nougat. Purple makes you bleed, orange stops it. It's the last one, so let's hope it works."

George placed the purple piece of candy in his mouth. Within seconds, his nose started bleeding. He then popped the orange one in his mouth and instead of the bleeding ceasing, he started bleeding profusely. Katie and Alyssa exclaimed and started searching for tissues to stop the bleeding while Emilie and Fred stood dumbfounded, the vacant candy box limp in Emilie's hand.

"What did we do wrong?" Fred asked

"I have no idea, but that was our last piece of candy. We can't work on this anymore until we stock up from Honeydukes."

"If we're even going to get the chance to go. Did you notice we haven't had a Hogsmeade trip yet this year? Our first trip is usually right around Halloween." Fred pointed out

"I wonder if maybe it was the recipe..." Emilie pondered, ignoring what Fred had just said

"Well, you don't have time to figure out about it now. You two can't afford to be late for class, so I will take George to the hospital wing since I have never once been late to class in my entire school career and you guys will go eat something before the bell rings in ten minutes." Katie said, holding George's head back

"Show-off." Emilie muttered as she passed Katie with Fred and Alyssa and left the common room

"Okay George, let's go. Keep your head back and I promise I won't make you run into any walls."

George chuckled as Katie grabbed his arm and led him out of the common room and towards the hospital wing. When they got there, Madam Pomfrey was busy examining a burn that Cedric had received from his dragon and told George to sit and wait. George laid back on one of the beds and Katie sat in a chair next to him.

"George, can I ask you something?" She said

"Sure."

"What's the deal with you and Emilie?"

George sat up and looked at Katie, who had her eyebrow raised skeptically.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, do you fancy her?

"Why do you ask?"

"I ask because I've noticed that you two have been really, really close lately, more so than her and Fred."

George's ears flushed as bright as his hair and he cleared his throat uncomfortably.

"I---I don't know. I mean, she's hot. Really beautiful, actually, and she's funny and smart and the most kind-hearted person I know and you're right, we are really close."

"It certainly sounds like you fancy her."

"Yeah, I guess I do. I don't know."

"Well George, if your face lights up like your fireworks every time she walks in a room or, dare I say the cheesiest thing, every time she smiles, then you fancy her. Here's what you do: wait a little bit, see if there's any possible that she likes you, and then ask her to Hogsmeade or something."

Before George could say anything, Madam Pomfrey came over and started cleaning the blood off of his face.

"Attention students fourth year and up! Please report to your head of house's classroom for an annoucement. Hufflepuffs, you will be meeting Professor Sprout in the Great Hall."

A small smile briefly spread across Madam Pomfrey's face and with a flick of her wand, the bleeding stopped.

"Alright, you're all set. Off you go, then."

Katie and George walked out of the hospital wing and headed towards McGonagall's classroom. When they got there, they noticed that the tables were gone, leaving the floor vacant, and that some of the chairs were set up on different sides of the room. Before Katie went to the assigned girls' side of the room, she turned to George.

"I know you're thinking about what I said and if it helps, both Alyssa and I think that Emilie might like you, too. She blushes every time you compliment her."

Katie smirked and turned away from George, going over to Emilie and Alyssa, who were leaning against the wall behind the set up chairs.

"And you thought I was going to be late for class. I was in here on time, wasn't I?" Emilie said nonchalantly

"Yeah well, there was something I needed to talk to George about without you, so that's why I forced you to leave."

"What did you talk to him about?"

"Things. Let's just leave it at that. So, what's the big annoucement? Did you and the twins pull off a huge prank that no one knows about?"

"No, we didn't. What'd you talk to him about?"

Katie shrugged and turned her attention forward as McGonagall started to collect everybody's attention. Emilie looked at Alyssa with wide eyes, wondering what was up with Katie, but Alyssa just shrugged. Emilie looked over at the twins and made eye contact with the both of them.

'Did you do something?' She mouthed. Both of them shook their heads as McGonagall cleared her throat.

"The Yule Ball has been a tradition of the Triwizard Tournament since its inception. On Christmas Eve night, we and our guests will gather in the Great Hall for a night of well-mannered frivolity."

"Translated in English that is..." Fred interrupted

"Be quiet, Mr. Weasley. Now, as representatives of the host school, I expect you all to put your best foot forward. And I mean that literally because the Yule Ball is first and foremost...a dance."

Emilie raised her eyebrow and looked at her two friends as the excited whispers of the Gryffindor girls filled the room. The guys, on the other hand, groaned as the shared thought of what the hell ran through each of their heads.

"Silence! Now, the house of Godric Gryffindor has commanded the respect of the wizarding world for nearly ten centuries. I will not have you in the course of a single evening besmirching that name by behaving like a babbling, bumbling band of babboons."

Out of the corner of her eye, Emilie saw George lean over and whisper something in Fred's ears. The playful glint that was always in the twins' eyes whenever they about to do something fun or funny was present. Emilie took special notice at the playful spark in George's eye, which unintentionally made her smile shyly in adoration. As always, Fred and George's attention span was directed elsewhere as they attempted to repeat McGonagall's alliterating statement.

"Now to dance is to let the body breathe. Inside every girl, a secret swan slumbers, longing to burst forth and take flight. Inside every boy, a lordly lion prepared to prance. Mr. Weasley?"

Ron stopped talking with Harry and looked up at McGonagall, who was now standing right in front of him.

"Will you join me please?"

Emilie stifled a laugh as he stood up and went to stand in front of McGonangall.

"Now, place your right hand on my waist."

"Where?" He questioned uncertainly

"My waist."

As he did so, George wolf-whistled and Ron tried to give him the finger.

"Mr. Filch, if you please."

Filch got the music playing and McGonagall and Ron started dancing. Emilie had to cover her mouth to keep from laughing out loud when she saw Fred and George mocking him in their corner. A couple of minutes later, the song came to an end and Ron went back to his seat, his face angry and as red as his hair.

"The first few songs will be waltzes as I have just demonstrated and if you wish to learn how to waltz, meet in this classroom next Friday at 2:00p.m. Now, attire for the ball is as followed. Dress robes will be worn for all guys. As for girls, formal dresses will be worn. Nothing revealing or you will be asked to leave. That is all. Potter, a word please."

The students of Gryffindor House made their way out of the Transfiguration classroom, some talking excitedly and others uninterestedly.

"You two are never going to let Ron live this down are you?" Emilie asked when she, Katie, and Alyssa caught up with the twins in the corridor. They smirked at each other and then at the girls.

"Never." That one word they shared told the girls everything they needed to know about the taunting that would be coming from their red-headed friends.

"So, are the rest of morning classes canceled then?" Katie asked as she followed Emilie, Fred, and Alyssa into the Great Hall

"Yeah, but we're having a study hall in the Great Hall under the eyes of the grease-monkey Potions teacher of ours. The teachers told us during breakfast while you and George were going to the hospital wing." Alyssa replied

They found an empty spot at their house table and while Katie and Alyssa insisted they sit together on one side of the table, Emilie sat down on one side of George while Fred sat on his right.

"Speaking of the hospital wing, George, how's your nose? I still feel bad that the other half of the candy didn't work." Emilie said as she took her Charms book and parchment out of her bookbag

"Don't worry about it, Em, it's fine. It's not your fault. Do you remember over the summer when we created the first Headless Hat and our heads stayed invisible for three hours after we took the hats off?"

Emilie smiled at the memory. "Yeah, I remember. And I know it's not my fault, but I still feel bad. You were bleeding pretty bad."

"But it's fine. See, look!"

George looked up, sticking his long, freckly nose up in the air and leaned in towards Emilie. Emilie turned her head away and put her hand on his cheek, turning his head forward and away from hers.

"Get that thing away from me." She laughed. Across the table, Katie exchanged a knowing smirk with Alyssa and the both of them glanced up at Fred, who was also smirking at the same thing that the two girls were.

All of a sudden, Emilie felt a hard-covered something make contact with the back of her head. A second later, George did too. The both of them looked behind them and saw Snape walking away, glaring back at them.

"Git." George muttered

"Maybe if you stopped being so distracting, we woudn't have gotten hit."

Emilie, still smiling, put her attention on the blank piece of parchment in front of her. George smirked and pulled out his Charms book and a piece of parchment as well. The both of them started writing and after a paragraph, Emilie felt a pair of eyes in her direction. She looked up and saw George quickly look back down at his own parchment.

"Cheater!" Emilie whispered harshly but with a smile on her face as she hit George's arm.

"I'm not cheating, I'm getting ideas. You're kind of brilliant, you know."

Emilie gently bit the inside of her cheek to keep from smiling too widely, but the familiar heat that rose to her cheeks every time George complimented her didn't cease. She suddenly heard the sound of something hard making contact with something else. It pulled her away from her thoughts as she looked up and saw Harry, Ron, and Hermione looking upset as Snape walked away with the book. Emilie then saw Fred toss a note at Ron. Ron read it in a whisper but it was still audible.

"'Get a move on or all the good ones will have gone.' Who're you going with then?" As Ron looked up at Fred, both Harry and Emilie looked around for signs of Snape. Fred merely smirked and tossed a balled up piece of parchment at Angelina Johnson, their fellow Quidditch teammate, who was sitting a little bit further down than Katie.

"Oi, Angelina!" He whispered

Angelina looked at him and widened her eyes, wondering what he wanted. He then pointed at her, put his arms up in a waltz position, moved around a bit, and then pointed at himself. Katie and Alyssa silently laughed while Emilie rolled her eyes and George smirked. They all then looked back at Angelina, who looked slightly amused.

"Yeah, alright." She whispered with a smile

Fred smiled and then looked back at Ron and winked. Emilie suddenly got an idea and stood up with her book and walked down the table a short ways to where Angelina was sitting.

"You should definitely come dress shopping with Katie, Alyssa, and I when they let us go. That is, if you want to. I know we're not best best friends, but I do know what Fred likes, so I thought maybe I could help you with that."

"Yeah, that sounds like fun, actually. Thanks. When's the next Hogsmeade trip?"

"You mean the first? Who knows? But they have to let us go sometime, otherwise all of the girls will be wearing jeans and t-shirts to the ball."

"Somehow, I don't think we'd make a very good impression on the other schools."

"I don't think we do already. After Snape's welcome-back-to-school prank, they probably think the teachers just let us run around uncontrolled."

"Nah, just you three."

Emilie smiled and looked down at her book.

"Well, I should get back. I'm hoping to not have to stay up until one doing this essay, so I'm trying to get a good start on it."

"Yeah, I have to finish this for Ancient Runes. Um, why did you bring your book over here?"

"I didn't want Snape to hit me with a book again so I brought it just to look like I had a question or something."

Angelina smiled as Emilie stood up and walked back over to her spot.

"What was that about?" Fred asked

"Nothing. I just had a question to ask her."

Fred looked somewhat relieved, thinking that Emilie was going to badmouth him or her, and turned back to his homework. George nudged Emilie's arm that rested on the table as she wrote and gave her a look that said 'What was that really about?' Emilie simply shook her head and continued writing.
