Jealous Minds Think Alike

We'll never be as young as we are tonight

-Jaycees POV-

“Jaycee,” I looked up from my desk and saw that Stephen was towering over me, giving me a sheepish smile. “Umm....hello.”

I couldn't help but smile. “Hello Stephen.”

“Thank you for....um....y'know....the things you did for me.....”

“Thank sensei.” I grinned and he blushed.

“Jaycee....there's something I've got to tell you.”

“What is it?”

“I know that you can't be here for Japanese B. You're only a sophomore and you aren't even supposed to have language electives yet....”

“And?”

“I needed to get something off my chest,” He took my hands and gazed deeply into my eyes. I noticed how warm and soft they were as he squeezed my fingers gently. “I love....”

Suddenly there was a loud knocking sound.

“What?” I frowned.

“I said I love....” The knocking sound instantly became louder and unfortunately blocked off the words that he was saying.

“I can't here you! There's some knocking noise.” Stephen laughed and leaned forward, pulling on my earlobe.

“I said I love you.” Then he kissed me.

Instantly, I sat up in my bed knocking over several pillows in the process. My bed sheet was flipped over on one side and a teddy bear laid on the floor. Someone was calling me. I looked over at my clock and saw that it was three in the morning. I groaned. It was way too early. Maybe I was just dreaming.

Clunk!

There was that knocking noise again! Then there was a crash. I let out a little scream and jumped back. A stone was on my floor and there was now a hole in my window, along with shattered glass pieces.

“Fuck.” I heard someone swore from outside my window.

I ran over and slid it open, horrified at what I saw.

“John?”

He looked up at me and gave me that crooked grin with his, waving at me with his fingers. “Hey Jaycee. Wassup?”

“Wassup?” I was fuming like hell. “You broke my window! That's wassup!”

“Oops,” He ran a hand through his hair. “Sorry. It was an accident.”

“You are going to pay for a new window!”

“Look, the place I'm going to take you to will make up for everything.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Just get dressed!” He called. “Hurry!”

As much as I wanted to object, I obeyed anyway, quickly throwing on a shirt and jeans from my closet. I grabbed my cellphone and iPod, stuffed it in my bag and sneaked downstairs, careful on trying to wake up my mom in the other bedroom. I took the house keys from the counter and walked outside, where John was waiting for me.

“Okay. What is that you want to show me?”

“It's not here,” He took my hand and lead me to a car. “C'mon. We gotta move!”

“Is this your car?”

“No,” He gave me a wicked grin. “It's my dads. I took it from him, when he was sleeping of course.”

I rolled my eyes and got into the passenger seat. He started the ignition and we took off. He turned on the radio and began humming to a song by lifehouse. I just stared at him.

“Where are we going?” I demanded.

“It's a secret.” He chuckled, putting a finger to his lips.

“What the hell are you talking about?”

“Wow. You sure are cranky in the morning,” He held a box of doughnuts out to me. “Doughnut?”

“No thanks.”

“You sure?” He popped a crème filled into his mouth. “They taste dwelicious.” He spoke with his mouth full and I couldn't help but laugh. “I know you're still tired. Go to sleep for a while. I'll wake you when we're there.”

So I did. I fell asleep, but I did not dream about Stephen again. Instead, I was surrounded in a world of darkness. I wandered aimlessly, looking around for some light. That is until I spotted John. At first it was hard to see his face, because of the darkness, but I surprisingly recognized his features.

“John?” I slowly crept towards him. Unlike me, he was very still. Motionless actually. I walked closer to him and made out his eyes staring right at me. Suddenly, he smiled and took my hand and the room suddenly started illuminating. I had to squint my eyes. When my eyes was adjusted to the bright light, he pulled me into a hug, my head snuggling on his chest.

“I'll light up your word.” he whispered.

Then I woke up again, with John shaking my shoulder.

“Wake up sleepyhead. We're here.” I looked at the window and saw trees. “You know you're cute when you sleep.” My cheeks grew warm.

“Where are we?”

“Step outside and you'll see.”

I did what he said and stepped outside. We were surrounded by at least a grove of trees. I heard a a soft rushing noise in the background. My ears followed and turned around, nearly collapsing to my knees.

There was a giant waterfall in front of us, falling into a pool of clear water.

“W-What is this place?” I asked, obviously speechless.

“Honestly, I have no idea.” I looked at him. “I mean, mom used to take my brother and I to this location. We would play in the waterfall.” I laughed. “We were little kids back then! Don't get the wrong idea!”

“Are we still in Arizona?”

“We sure all. Surprised aren't you? It's usually hot here, but we have a whole freakin' waterfall in front of us! How cool is that?”

“Very.” I nodded.

“I suppose you didn't bring a bathing suit, right?”

“Perhaps if you told me where we were going, then I would've brought one.”

“That would have ruined the surprise,” he let out a sigh. “Awww, I wanted to see you in a bikini.”

“You're a pervert.”

“But you love me anyway.” he winked. I wondered if he was joking or not. “Wanna take a closer look?”

“Duh.” I gave him a goofy grin.

We headed over to the waterfall and I looked over at the clear water, meeting up with my reflection. I looked over at John and saw that he was at the edge, stirring the water with his finger, as if looking for some fish.

“Be careful!” I cried. “You're gonna fall in!”

He gave me a “I'm not stupid enough to do that” look. “C'mon Jaycee. I'm more careful that – Woah!” The he fell off the edge and plunged into the water.

“John!” I screamed and ran to where he was at. I peered into the water, but I didn't see him anywhere. I started to panic. “John? Joh-!” Before I can call out his name again, a hand burst from the water's surface and pulled me in. I instantly swam to the top, spitting out mouthfuls of surprisingly fresh water, water. John was laughing beside me.

“You idiot!” I began thrashing around in the water. “I can't swim! I can't swim!”

“Shit!” John instantly began to swam towards me.

“Just kidding!” I gave him a devilish smile and dunked his head under. He pulled up and splashed my face. I splashed him back with water.

Pretty soon, we were like little kids, splashing each other with water. John and I were completely soaked, but we didn't care anyway. We ate a lunch of sodas and doughnuts, then got back into the water after a half n' hour rest. Time past and soon it was five in the afternoon.

“Do you always wear those glasses?” I asked, fingering the len-less hole.

“Maybe,” he chuckled, pulling them off. “Wanna try them on?”

“Sure,” I slipped them on my face and stared at John. Of course there were no lens, so my vision didn't change at all. “So....how do I look?”

He took one look at me and a smile met his lips. “You look pretty...in fact....you match.”

“Really?” I couldn't stop staring at him. I was so used to John with his glasses on.

“That's my favorite pair that you're wearing,” He ran a finger against the white frames. “It's the first one I've got.”

“You mean you have more?”

“Yep,” He smiled. “That's why I'm going to give this one for you to keep.” My jaw nearly dropped.

“No way.”

“Yes way.” he smiled. “It's no big deal.”

“But it is for you!” I took the glasses off my face and held them out to him. “Keep them!” I insisted. “It's your glasses. It's your first pair. It's your favorite!”

“Whoa!” He laughed. “Just take it Jaycee! It's okay!” I shrank back feeling unsure, but I didn't say a word more. “Hey, you wanna see something cool?”

I nodded as he took my hand and lead me to the waterfall. Carefully, we went through the rush of water and inside a cave. I was suddenly starstruck. Around me, there were at least more than a dozen sterling jewels embedded inside the cave walls. It ranged from different colors. From pink, to blue, to yellow, and more.

“It's beauti - “

“Wait!” John held a hand in front of my lips. “Don't say that yet. Wait until night falls.”

So I did. John and I wandered around in the cave, picking out each color of the embedded jewel, challenging each other on who got the most accurate number of jewels, or just sitting down on the cold cave floor just talking.

Then night fall arrived. We stood at the edge of the cave and waited. I gazed at the sky, there was a full moon. Suddenly, the moonlight shone at the cave and the jewels started to light up. I wanted to say something, but John lifted a finger.

“Wait for it.” he whispered.

Then the jewel's light reflected on the water, causing a collision of colors to form in the shape of a rainbow. I was speechless while John just gave me a grin.

“It's beautiful....” I didn't know why, but a single tear rolled down my cheek. “I've never seen anything like this....”

“I told you you'd like it.” He said, wiping away the tear on my cheek.

We stared at the beautiful formed rainbow in a long silence. I felt John's fingers touch mine and it soon became an intertwine. He squeezed my hand and I squeezed his.

We didn't say anything else for the rest of the night.
