A Start of Something New

“So, you and Ronnie seem to be close…are you related?” Alyssa asked Olivia

“I’m not related to Ronnie.” Olivia told Alyssa sipping on a drink Kat had ordered for all of them. It was in clear glass with a clear liquid inside, Olivia had no idea what she was consuming. The only thing she knew was she was getting tipsy off of it

“Do you guys have a thing?” Alyssa pried

“No” Olivia lied

“So you guys are like just friends, correct”

“I guess you could say that.”

“So, Oli, where do live?”

“Here, in Las Vegas”

“Wow, it must be fun then. I bet you party all the time then.”

“No not really, Nasty, Jacky, Derek and Ronald, party way more than me. I usually stay home most of the time. But lately I’ve been going out with guys” Olivia explained

Alyssa got excited from the new information Olivia had spilled

“You live with them?” she asked

“Yeah” Olivia said nonchalant manner

“Not to be rude or anything, but…why?”
“It’s along story” Olivia warned Alyssa not wanting to go into detail about her parents death and then having to live with her cousin because no one could take her in. she was on a technical basis of somewhat of an orphan.

“I have time” Alyssa insisted Kat rolled her eyes

“Nasty is my cousin, he is letting me stay with him.” Olivia said leaving out some the important things

“Oh really?”

“Yeah”

Ronnie was searching for Olivia; she wasn’t in the dinning area where she said she was going.
‘Where the fuck did she go?’ Ronnie asked himself …better not be at the bar. And with out a doubt when he walked in the bar she was sitting there with a drink in her hand.

“What the hell Olivia, you promised me you were going to drink” Ronnie scold Olivia turned around in her stool rolling her eyes.

“No, I promised I wasn’t going to drink that much” Olivia said lethargically then noticing Ronnie was wearing 
 a black and silver paper party hat that read ‘happy new years’ on it

“Nice hat by the way” Olivia added

“What are you drinking?”

“This.” Olivia said holding up and swirling a clear glass filled with ice and alcohol. Ronnie took the glass out of Olivia’s hands.

“I was still drinking that, Ronald.”

“You had enough for right now.”

“What the fuck? I haven’t even drunk half of that yet, give it back!” Olivia ordered Ronnie holding her hand out,

“No”

“And why the hell not?”

“Because.”

“’cause what?”

“I said so”

Olivia stared at Ronnie in disbelief he had never said no to her before. Alyssa cleared her throat, to get rid of the awkward silence building up between the two of them

“Oh it’s you two” Ronnie smirked looking at the girls that sat on either side of Olivia remembering them

“Ronnie, this is Kat and Alyssa”

“Hi Ronnie” Alyssa said a little to loud and it came out a little shaky sounding

“Hello, um-”

“Alyssa” she finished the sentence for him, he then acknowledged Kat with a simple nod which Kat did in returned then went back to doing something on her iphone

“It’s almost 12”Ronnie told Olivia then handing her a hat similar to his only the one he handed her was more of a crown.

“Ok then, happy new years. I thought we already went over this” Olivia stated as she slipped on the crown like hat.

“Devin has something going on in the back when it strikes midnight” Ronnie explained further. Olivia rolled her eyes then grabbed her drink back from Ronnie’s hand and chugging most of it before it got confiscated again. Olivia heard Alyssa giggle, remembering she and Kat was still here.

“You guys are too…funny” she said, saying 'funny' though her clenched teeth

“Why thank you” Ronnie said proudly

“I bet you guys get that a lot” Alyssa asked Ronnie

“Actually-” And Ronnie would have gone off bragging and tell stories that started out with ‘and this one time’ or ‘you wont believe when we’ but Olivia stopped him

“We should get going, it was nice talking to you Alyssa” Olivia said then turned towards Ronnie telling him which a quick facial expression change that said  we need to go…now! Ronnie caught on. They started to leave when Alyssa stopped them

“Hey wait, Oli! If you ever wanna talk or text me, here’s my cell phone number and wrote Kat’s below mine. We should hang out sometime.” Alyssa suggested handing Olivia a yellow sticky note with numbers scribbled on it

“Thanks”

“Your welcome”

“Well, I’ll see you around I guess. You live here in Vegas right?”

“Kat and I live in Sunrise Manor, it's about 20 minutes or so away from here” Alyssa explained

“Oh, you want me to come over to your house or-” Olivia didn’t get to finish her sentence

“No way, I’ll come to yours!” Alyssa said a little too eagerly

“Ok, I’ll talk to you later.” Olivia said then walked off with Ronnie
Olivia and Ronnie made their way to a living area where people were cramped in. All of them wearing happy new years crowns or hats and a few people with noise making party favors. A giant flat screen in the white wall had a countdown timer on it

2 minutes left of 2010 

A big plastic bag of confetti was being passed around. People were reaching in it and pulling out in the fistfuls. The bag came to them and Ronnie held the bag open for Olivia

“So do you have a new year’s resolution?” Ronnie asked her

“No” Olivia said taking the bag and without taking any, passed to the next person.

“Why not?”

“There’s nothing in my life right now that I’m unhappy with at the moment. Well, at least nothing I can change”

“Hmm, now that I think about it…same here.” he nodded and agreed

It was a little less than a minute of 2010 when Ronnie grabbed Olivia by the wrist and pulled out of the room and out of one of the many back doors of the mansion.

“Where are you taking me?” Olivia whispered stepping outside into the harsh cold air of the night. The was an Olympic sized pool and that water reflected off there skin turning it a hue of light blue. The area they were in had stone walls built around the it. above them was a black screen in ceiling that you could see straight through. Above it was a full harvest moon. Ronnie didn’t answer he just held close by the waist. Closer than anytime before. Starting straight into her light brown eyes smiling. They both heard an muffled eruption of cheers. Then Ronnie kissed her.

With passion

With…love.

Then fireworks shot up into the night sky.
It was a kiss like any other. He pulled away and whispered in Olivia’s ear

“Happy new years, Oli…I-” then Ronnie stopped and bit his lip, grimacing holding back his words

“You what?” Olivia asked

“Nothing” He said then intertwining their fingers and looking up staring the exploding colors in the night sky. Olivia kept staring at the older man, wondering what he was going to say.
Ronnie glanced down at the young girl who was staring at him intently

“You are phenomenal, Olivia. Did you know that?” he questioned her then giving her a kiss on the forehead.
Olivia blushed then gazed into the night with Ronnie holding hands
