The police don't know whether they're running away or being kidnapped, whether it could be a gang or a singular criminal, but the residents of the town all claim that it is one sick psycho taking pretty teenage girls whenever he feels like it.
Connor Lewis is twelve when it begins, and it's almost normal to her when she's fifteen. The belief of the entire female teenage population of Winter Vale is that if it doesn't happen to anyone you know, it doesn't exist, and she dismisses the cautions she should have taken.
