The Road.

Chapter 14.

Why did I say yes? I think to myself as I stare at my bathroom ceiling.

Last week after Alex, Ariana, and Charlie had left the banquet, Nathan had asked me if I wanted to go out on a date with him, and I had said yes.

I really didn’t know why I said yes, I mean, sure Nathan’s a great guy, but I know that nothing is ever going to happen between us.

I close my eyes and sink further into my bubble bath wishing I could stay here all night instead of going out.

I jump out of the tub and wrap a towel around my body as I hear somebody knocking on my door. I look through the peek hole of my door and my eyes go wide as I see Nathan all dressed up, I look at the clock and gasp. I had fallen asleep.

“Uh… I’m not ready yet!” I say trying to sound calm.

“I’ll just wait out here.” Nathan replies.

“I’ll be out in a few,” I say and run to my bedroom.

I put on my undergarments as quickly as I can and head to my closet; I grab a black and pink dress with heart prints and put it on as I try to put on my black heels at the same time.

I quickly do my hair and makeup and grab my purse before walking out my condo.

“Sorry about that,” I say to Nathan with a small smile as I try to regulate my breath.

“Wow… you look great.” He says as he looks at me down and up.

“Thanks,” I mumble feeling my cheeks growing hot.

“We should get going, the cab is waiting downstairs.”

I nod as I link my arm with Nathan’s and head out.

Nathan had decided to take me out to see a Broadway show, I didn’t mind but I would had much rather gone out bowling or gone to see a movie.

“I’m glad you said yes to my invitation,” Nathan says as we take our seats near the front row.

“Thanks for inviting me,” I reply and look at the stage.

“Do you see a lot of Broadway shows?” I ask Nathan trying to make a conversation.

“Uh… truthfully I’ve only seen about two, but I’m sure you love them.”

“What makes you think that?”

“Well... you belong to the high society of New York, and you’re… very well off and so I thought…” he trails off.

“So you thought since I’m rich, I go out every night to go see a Broadway show?”

“Well, not every night.”

I couldn’t help but to feel offended. I couldn’t believe he was actually judging based on my wealth.

“What else do you think about me?” I ask with a raised eyebrow.

Nathan looks at me with a confused expression, and then shrugs.

“You just seem like the type of person who had a great life growing up, and you got everything you wanted.”

“So you think my life is perfect?”

“Well… yeah. Look at you, you’re only 21 and you already have your own businesses, you have your own place, you can practically do anything you want!”

“Why did you ask me out on a date?”

“Because I think you’re a great person. You’re funny and shy, and I wanted to get to know you better,” he sees sincerely.

“Well since you want to get to know me better, you should know I have never been to a Broadway show, I didn’t have a perfect life growing up, and nobody liked me when I was growing up because they thought I was just another snobby bitch. I clean my own place, I cook my own meals, I lock myself in my room and draw while I listen to music, and I hate dressing up, I rather be wearing an old pair of jeans and a shirt.”

“I feel like an asshole, and I hope you can forgive me for thinking you were someone completely different.”

“It’s okay, at least you gave me the chance to tell you who I really am and not just… you know ignore and judge me.”

“What do you say to leaving this place and going to Coney Island?”

“I think that’s a brilliant idea,” I say as Nathan and I stand up.

He takes my hand and begins to lead me out to the lobby through the crowded auditorium.

“Meghan?” I hear a familiar voice as we reach the front doors.

I let go of Nathan’s hand and I turn around just to see Alex and Ariana.

“Hey, are you two here to see the show as well?” Ariana asks with a big smile.

“Actually, we decided to skip it and go do something fun instead.” Nathan replies and I can’t help to giggle.

“No offense to you,” I quickly tell Ariana,

“Don’t worry about it, everybody enjoys doing something different,” she says with a smile.

“We should start heading in, the show is about to start,” Ariana says.

“We need to head out as well,” Nathan replies and takes my hand causing Alex to look at Nathan and then at me with an expression that looked a lot like jealousy, and I couldn’t help but to feel happy about it.
