Best Gift Ever

“Sophie, Joe do you like your presents?” our mother asked us after we realized what we opened in our envelopes.
“Why wouldn’t we?” I exclaimed like a six year old. I had just received Chicago Blackhawks tickets for Christmas.
“This is the best present ever, Mom,” my brother Joe stated.
“They aren’t from us. They are from your Aunt Laura and Uncle Stan.”
“We still love them. We should call and thank them right this minute,” I suggested, still excited as ever.
My dad dialed the number to his sister’s house where they were hosting our other side of the family for Christmas Eve. We had just returned from my Grandmother’s house on my mother’s side. His sister answered the phone. My dad then turned into the phone.
“I don’t think the kids liked their gift, Laur. They are still sitting there with their eyes all wide open and mouth agape.”
“Dad, don’t lie to your little sister. Give me the phone,” I asked of him or more like demanded. He responded by giving me the telephone. “Hi, Aunt Laura. Joe and I absolutely love our gifts unlike my dad’s sarcasm. I think we are going to be spending the night on Sunday, right?”
