She Was the Challenge He'd Been Waiting For

I had a bad feeling. A really bad feeling. I woke up that morning and quickly got dressed.

“Mom.. Dad?” I shouted but there was no answer. “They must have gone out for the day..” I whispered to myself before grabbing some breakfast and eventually getting into my car. The ride to school dragged and I couldn’t help but feel as though there was a reason for that.. That.. This day was taking as long as possible to finish. But it was for a reason this time. Time usually dragged when I was inside school. Not when I was driving there. Once I got there I instantly made my way to Alex’s music room since it was still early in the morning.

“Hello babe.” He whispered with a warm smile and I attempted to fake a smile, But it didn’t work. “Babe? What’s wrong?” He asked as he made his way over to my crumbling frame.

“I.. I don’t know.” I said as I crumbled in his arms. I sobbed into his shirt and he held me close as he sighed.

“Don’t be upset over nothing Baby. It’s not worth it.” He said with a small smile and I wiped my eyes softly as I softly giggled.

“Your right.. Everything will be fine.” I said with a soft chuckle. But boy.. How wrong I was..

It was lunch now.. And this was dragging the most. Something was going to happen today. I could just feel it.

“Lia.. Are you okay?” Andy asked, his face held a small frown of concern and I shrugged softly.

“I don’t know yet..” I whispered quietly. Luckily, no one heard my response and I forced on a smile. “I’m fine Andy.” I replied and he nodded. He didn’t believe me but, he dropped it nonetheless. The bell went signalling next lesson. This was the lesson. Something was going to happen in music. The walk down the hall felt like I was in slow motion. I sighed happily as I eventually made my way through the music room doors and took my seat.

Around fifteen minutes had passed in the lesson when the principle knocked softly on the door before walking inside.

“Mr Gaskarth.. Can I please talk to you for a moment?” He asked, His voice sad and low.

“Of coarse Sir.” He said before following him out of the door. What could have happened? Had the principle found out about us? Why did he need Alex? By the time I’d finished thinking the principle came back inside the room.

“Miss Wilson, May I please talk to you? Your not in trouble.” He explained and I nodded softly as I rose from my seat and followed him out of the door where I saw Alex leaning against the wall sadly. “Miss Wilson.. I’m afraid I have some bad news.. Your parents are.. Dead..” He said as he hung his head and my world immediately crumbled from around me and I fell to the floor. What.. They-.. They can’t be! They can’t be dead!

“No.. No, your wrong. They can’t be dead. They fucking can’t be!” I screamed loudly and Mr Smith sighed softly as he ran a hand through his fading hair.

“I’m sorry Miss Wilson.. It’s true.. The police came to school for you but I said I’d pass it on as you were in class.. Police in school might cause more attention than needed..” He explained and I pulled my legs up so I was hugging them tightly. Not really listening to a word he was saying.

“But.. They were the only family I had! What the hell am I going to do without them! They were my fucking life and now it’s gone! I have nothing!” I screamed and He sighed softly.

“I wasn’t very please with my decision but.. I asked Mr Gaskarth here if you’d be able to stay with him. I believe that nothing is happening between the two of you so I’m happy with you staying there..” He said with a faint smile and I just sobbed. I couldn’t do any more. My parents where.. Gone.. How the fuck could I live without them?! “I’ll leave you to calm down Miss Wilson..” He said and with that he left the hallway. Leaving me to sob into my knees. Alex sighed as he pushed himself from the wall and sat down next to me, wrapping his arm around my neck and pulling me into his chest.

“I’m so sorry for your loss..” He said with a soft sigh as he placed his head on top of mine.

“What am I going to do Alex.. I have nothing anymore.. My life’s fucking useless!” I said sadly and his arms wrapped around me slightly tighter.

“Hey, You have me. Now.. Give me a second.. I’ll get a cover for class and I’ll take you home.” He said as he helped me stand up. He ran down the hall before coming back moments later with a sub. He walked into the classroom but stayed at the door. “Okay class.. Your going to have Mr Siddall for the rest of the lesson.. Something came up and I have to go home. I’ll see you all tomorrow.” He said causing all the class to become curious. They all started talking as he walked out and I couldn’t help but sigh. “Come on.” He said and led me down the halls and out of the school. “I’ll get Jack to pick your car up.” He said as he pulled out his phone, quickly texting Jack and putting his phone back into his pocket. We climbed into the car and I sunk into the car seat. My parents were gone.. What was I going to do. “You’ll be okay Baby. I promise you. I’m going to look after you.” He said with a smile and I faked a smile back.

“Thanks.” I whispered and he smiled softly as he nodded.

“You know, If you find us living together weird you can go live with Jack until you feel comfortable.” He said and that made me laugh. But only slightly. No facial effort was made with the laugh.

“You’ve seen me in my underwear Gaskarth. I’m totally comfortable with you.” I said and he sighed in relief.

“Ah, good. I’d have hated you staying with Jack anyways..” He said with a soft sigh and I sunk back into the chair.

“Cause he fancies me?” I asked, Still silently sobbing while looking out of the car window.

“Yeah..” He whispered and I grabbed his hand lightly with mine. We soon arrived at Alex’s apartment and I instantly made my way up to the apartment door to see it was already open.

“Hey Al- Oh, it’s you. What the fuck’s up with you? Someone die?” Lisa said harshly with a smirk and.. I couldn't stop myself. I pounced. And I punched.. Hard. All I remember was Alex pulling me off her and I crumbled in his chest. She got up, Blood running from her nose and mouth.

“I think you need to fucking go Lisa.” He said with a scowl as he held me close.

“She fucking lashed out at me!” She screamed and Alex growled.

“Yeah, Well I heard what you said Lisa. Her parents have just fucking died!” He screamed and Lisa’s eyes widened as she stuttered. Not realising that Alex was listening to what she said. And also not realizing that someone had actually died. “Just fucking go, you’re a heartless bitch Lisa. You always will be.” He seethed and with that, She stormed out of the room. “Baby. Come on. Let’s go to bed.” He said and locked the door before pulling me over to the bedroom. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I was out.
