Operation Warren

PART 1: GOING UNDERGROUND

PART ONE: Going Underground

~~~~~~
From the moment the American Government got word of the impending Russian attacks on Europe, they began to implement the first stages of Operation Warren. It was a plan that had first been devised around the end of the Second World War, just after the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It had been decided, that if ever there was threat of nuclear war, 200,000 people would be rounded up, and sent underground. They would be kept isolated from the rest of the population of the country and world in the hopes of continuing the human race, free from the radiation that would affect the species.
Since the beginning of the cold war and first real threat of nuclear war, thousands of miles of tunnelling had been dug somewhere beneath America. The tunnels exact location had never been revealed except to the residents of one small town, most of whom had been paid off to help with construction and then to keep their mouths shut about the whole thing. The idea had been to create an underground city, in which the 200,000 would live and eventually be used to repopulate the country and planet with subjects who had not been exposed to the nuclear radiation following the war.
As the president of the United States made the announcement that there was threat of nuclear war between Russia and Europe, thousands of people were already being rounded up. People of genders, all religions and backgrounds. "They" wanted the new world to be populated by as diverse a species as possible. 100,000 adults, male and female were gathered. All under the age of 55, - it had been deemed the oldest to safely send people underground - the subjects were all deemed to be in prefect health. They would be split into couples, 90 percent with one male and one female; the other 10 percent were same sex couples. No adult would be selected that had any children or was expecting a child, not at that point.
At the same time the adults were being rounded up. 100,000 children were rounded up, of every age from three months to 17 years, 11 months and 29 days. Many were orphans, abandoned at various points of their lives. Others, specifically the new born children had been specially selected upon conception and were intended to be brought up in the underground city.
The two hundred thousand were put on trains, buses, and airplanes, and then transported across the country to a small town in Kansas; here they were homed for a few days, as couples were assigned children. Then, over the course of a month, before the first missiles were ever launched, the new residents of Esper, Kansas were brought underground, and re-homed for the foreseeable future.
By the time the first missiles fell, all 200,000 were in situe, and were none the wiser. All they were concerned about was getting set up in their new city.
Here's the second chapter. Again quite introductory. It'll probably be tomorrow before the next chapter is started. That's where the real story part begins.
