Missing Eternity

Part IV: Run
Wild realization swarmed my brain
"Danny!"
I stood and began to sprint towards him
He scrambled away fear still etched into his face
"Dan-
Then I got a better look at him
and gasped
There was a gaping wound
on the side of his throat
Fresh as my shock
blood startlingly scarlet
new bruising where the blood wasn't covering it

"Holy Shit you're hurt!"
this snapped him back to attention
"L-Laurel?"
he winced in pain
Making a soft hurt sound between his teeth
"What are you doing here!"
I stuttered
"I-I"
Something cut me off
something that would be in my nightmares for years to come.

It came from far away
Laughter
High and feminine
a sound of triumph
like you just found something you've been searching for hours for
But there was something in that laugh
It sent a cold wave through my heart
The sound of a predator
and it had just scented its prey

For a moment after there was no sound
Save the rapid beating of my heart
Danny's eyes widened He seemed barely able to grasp reality
He couldn't keep the pain out of his next words
"G-get out of here"
