Missing Eternity

XLII: Detective Wilt

Part: XLII: Detective Wilt

We stopped at the Detectives office
the sign read
Detective Alexander S. Wilt
Missing Persons.
"Well,'
I said to Dustin who was standing in front of me
"Are we going in?"
"Oh um right,"
He knocked.
The response was emediate
the door open almost as soon as Dustin's hand touched the wood.
A balding man in his mid forties with a bit of a pounch answered the door.
I immediately compared him to the two people I'd met a few days ago
this was a real cop
He didn't look like he jumped out of a T.V. like the other two men.

"Hello!"
He sounded cheerful happy to see us
this caught me completely off guard
I'd expected him to be annoyed at the distraction or even uncaring
And it wasn't the dazed drug like trance of happiness I'd seen in Detective Linsey.
He seemed perfectly aware and awake
and intelligence bloomed behind his eyes.
"You must be my shadowing students, Ms. Mortis and Mr. Wiles.
'H-hello, sir,"
Dustin stuck out his hand seeming nervous.
I didn't know he felt any emotion besides narcissism
Go figure

Detective Wilt became more serious,
"So the two of you are my shadowing group, so you're going to be following me around seeing what I do and taking notes and such."
"Yes,"
I tried my best to sound serious and mature
to make up for my cowering partner.
Was Dustin afraid of old people?
"But we're not planning to get in your way."
"Well that's good because I'm going to make you work, for example, I have new case file I need to go thru but I also have to finish typing this report. So you two have to go get them for me.'
He scribbled on a piece of paper and handed it to Dustin.
"Archives down to the basement and to the left third door. Your first lesson in being a detective isn't always or even usually glamorous."
