Part VII: Dead

I don't remember getting home that night
but next thing I know I am
My mom opens the door
giving a soft scream
"Honey, honey she's home!"
I hear my dad stomp in from the kitchen
he looks white as a ghost
"thank god"

He looked at me
taking in the muddy clothes
and picking a leaf out of my hair
"what happened?'
he steered me into the living room
my mouth refuses to work
"I went to the park"
I babble
"I-I saw Danny"

My mother inhaled quickly
drawing into herself
giving my dad a meaningful look
"Laurel you can't have seen Danny"
she said it like I was about five years old
"they found Danny A few hours ago
she hesitated
"He's dead"

Mind blank head reeling
"what?"
Mom tried to hug me Saying something
I pushed her away
"No you don't get it, I Saw him"
"It had to be someone else"
Of course because I would tell you if I wasn't sure

Dad cleared his throat
"They... Actually found him this morning
he was in pretty bad shape, It.. took a while to identify him.
Mom was ticked
like I said she thinks I'm five
