Love
I planned to eventually introduce Peter to Elena, if I remembered. He'd be more accepting of her than that girl in the room next to mine. She said I was a freak. She's the one with the shiny thing in her nose.
Peter was outside, waiting for me. We were going somewhere special. Elena didn't know where exactly.
I put a dress on, then slipped into a pair of shoes. I glanced in the mirror only once, to make sure everything matched all right. Peter saw me every day that I didn't see a mirror at all. To him I would look fine.
We drove. As we drove, we talked. Elena told me later that I asked multiple times where we were going. Apparently he gave the same answer every time: "You'll see when we get there."
And I did see. I saw something I had never seen before: the sunset. It was gorgeous, and I loved it.
That was also the night that I told Peter. I told him that I loved him. He said he loved me, too. Elena replayed the scene in my head over and over, until I dreamed about it. Peter, Peter, Peter...
