And Here's What You Missed on...GLEE

Chapter 2

The next day at school, I shut my locker and took a deep breath, hoping that no one heard that I was considering Glee. Though, at a school like McKinley, news traveled quickly.

That meant that I should probably just give up and join Glee already, since any social status that I had would already be shoved down the toilet and flushed.

Quinn, Santana, and Brittany were making their ways down the hallway. Even though I couldn’t see them yet, it was obvious. Everyone moved out of their way, unlike everyone else, who had to weave their way through the crowd of students.

As they passed, Quinn surveyed my outfit and turned to whisper something in Santana’s ear. Santana checked me out, too, before the three of them all burst into laughter.

I rolled my eyes, knowing that there was nothing wrong with what I was wearing. I was wearing jeans, a dark blue t-shirt, and my black Converse. Not really anything fashion-crime worthy there.

As I walked to my first class, I couldn’t help but notice that people were whispering when I passed. The realization washed over me that it had already gotten around the school that I had said that I wanted to join Glee.

“Hey,” someone said. I put on an annoyed face as I turned to face one of the football players that I didn’t know the name of because I simply didn’t care.

Before I could say anything else, I got a face-full of a freezing liquid. Only when a little flavor slipped into my mouth did I realize that it was a slushie.

“That’s an advance payment,” he laughed, high-fiving his friend that was with him. Then, they walked down the hallway, still cracking up about their win over the girl that WASN’T EVEN A PART OF GLEE YET.

The sticky, syrupy liquid was dripping down the back of my shirt, and I shivered a little, my jaw dropped. I couldn’t believe that this was happening already.

At least I had nothing to lose now.

“What the hell?!” Lisa gasped, taking a look at my soaked being. “Why are you just standing here? To the bathroom! Now!”

When I didn’t move immediately, still shocked at what just happened, she grabbed my arm and started dragging me down the hallway. Everyone chuckled at a combination of what happened to me and the look on my face before Lisa finally pushed me into the girls’ room.

“So is it true?” Lisa interrogated. She was like the rest of the school, hating Glee Club even though there was really nothing to hate. “You’re thinking about being one of them?”

I sighed loudly and turned on the water. The bell to homeroom rang, and I knew that I was going to be late, but I had a valid reason with lots of witnesses. “Yeah, and I have been for a while. It just turned out that I told Finn yesterday, and he told the Glee Club members, and now it’s all over school.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” Lisa rushed, standing in front of me with a surprised expression. “Stop right there. Did you just say ‘Finn’? As in Finn Hudson?”

“Who else is named Finn?” I questioned, rolling my eyes.

“You talked to Finn Hudson?”

“Yes…what are you not understanding here?” I dunked my head in the sink and started to rinse out my hair. I knew that I was going to look like a wet rat after this was done, but it was either that, or have my hair dry, hardened, into little clumps. I would prefer the wet rat look.

“You talked to someone,” she joked. I lifted my head up to roll my eyes at her before putting my head back under the water. “And he’s really cute.”

“Well, okay.” I stood back up straight and got a paper towel. After drying my hair a little bit, I looked in the mirror. Now I was no longer sticky, but my clothes needed to be changed. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any extra clothes because I had gym second semester. “Do you have anything that I can change into?”

“No. I have gym second semester, too. Remember?”

Sighing loudly, I nodded. “So I guess I’m just going to have to go through the rest of the day in these disgusting clothes. That’s great.”

“You kind of deserve it,” Lisa shrugged. “You shouldn’t have been considering being one of them.”

I couldn’t help but let out a laugh. “Alright, sure. You’re just jealous because they’re a lot better than you could ever be.”

“I can’t believe you just said that to me,” she snapped. “Sorry for trying to talk some sense into you!”

“I’m not insane, so I don’t need you to try to talk any sense into me. So just get to class, okay?”

After shooting me daggers with her light green eyes, she stormed out of the bathroom, letting the door flap to a close behind her.

Rolling my eyes, I looked back in the mirror. I didn’t really care that Lisa was angry at me, since she was just like everyone else at this school. I didn’t even like her that much anyway.

To my shock, the stall at the far right of the bathroom opened slowly, and Rachel Berry stepped out. “Sorry,” she mumbled. “I couldn’t help but overhear.”

Her dark brown hair was curling loosely below her shoulders and her dark brown eyes were wide and bright. Her nose and mouth were big, but she was still pretty. For some reason, she dressed kind of like a toddler, but kind of like an old lady. I wasn’t positive how she managed to do it, but she did.

“Don’t worry about it,” I shrugged.

“She was a real jerk to you.”

“I was a jerk back.”

Rachel shook her head. “No, you stood up for Glee Club. Thanks. Not many other people would do that.”

I turned to look at her and saw that her eyes were genuine. I never thought that Rachel could be nice, but there she was, being sweet.

“No problem. I’m going to be one of you soon, I guess, so I might as well start defending you now.”

Something that I wasn’t expecting was that Rachel smiled. “Come to the meeting this afternoon then. You can try out.”

“Why try out…?” I chuckled lightly. “Aren’t I just going to make it anyway?”

“It’s standard procedure. Just make sure that you have a song ready. Oh, and did you want some clothes to change into? I always bring an extra, just so that I’m prepared when the football players unleash the slushies.”

“Thank you,” I responded. “That’s really nice of you.”

“It’s the least I can do for a new recruit!” Okay, she was a little too happy about that. We walked out to the hallway, and she went to her locker. She handed me a plaid skirt and white button down. Although they were not clothes that I would normally wear (or would ever wear), I was still thankful that she cared enough to loan me some of her clothes.

What was even stranger was that in the meeting just yesterday, she said my name with venom. It was possible that she just didn’t like me because I could have been hitting on Finn, and she felt threatened. But of course, I would never do that to anyone, no matter how annoying they were.

“Well, I don’t want to keep you from class anymore,” I smiled. “Thanks so much for the clothes, and I guess I’ll see you after school at Glee.”

“Yes, you will.” After another bright smile from her, she turned down the hallway and did a fast-walk to her class.

I quickly changed into Rachel’s clothes. As I looked over my appearance in the mirror, I noticed how blatantly the goody-two-shoes clothes clashed with my smudged smoky eye makeup and black nail polish. Ugh, speaking of which…

Grabbing a piece of toilet paper and wetting it, I tried to clean up my makeup a little. By the end, I guessed it looked alright, but I still kind of looked like a clown.

Instead of thinking too much about it, I just left the bathroom and maneuvered my way through the crowd to go to my first period class: Biology. People gave me strange looks, others laughed, but I ignored them as best I could.

Who asked them anyway?
