Until Hell Freezes Over

Pick On A Teammate.

It felt so good to get back to playing at my former level. I found that I really missed the guys and they had missed me as well. Sharpie and Burish were the ones who really let me know how much they had missed me. They showed me this by pranking the crap out of me. When I complained about it to Jonathan and Kaner, they laughed and said, ‘Better you than us.’ Of course with enough complaining from me they quit and went back to pranking Tazer and Kaner. This current road trip out west we had been on had become quite eventful.

“Hey, Maxi!” Patrick said as he came up to me with a camera on the plane, “Wanna help me and Bur mess with Tazer and Kaner?” I just rolled eyes at him, shoving the camera out of my face.

“Can you just leave me alone?” I questioned, trying to relax before we had to get fired up to play Calgary.

“It’s either you or them, Dil. If I were you I would help us mess with them so that you could get some sleep, ya know? I pondered this for a moment or two. I would rather dish it out than receive especially from those two.

“Alright, I guess I’ll help. Just don’t go over board because I don’t want them to get mad at me.”

“Great, stop by our room before you go out to dinner with them, we’ll let you know what the plan is then.” Burish added as he turned around to face me since he was sitting directly in front of me. I just rolled my eyes in response to their idiocy.

“Hey, Sharp, wanna move? I’d like to sit down.” Jon asked as he walked down the isle of the plane to stand before us. He had gone to talk to Seabrook and Campbell when Sharp and made his move to talk to me.

“Yeah, sure thing, Tazer. I’ll let you sit next to your girlfriend.” He winked at me.

“He’s not my boyfriend!” I objected. Sure Jon and I had been hanging out a lot together but it didn’t mean that we were dating and we had only kissed once or twice since we had gone bowling. Yeah, I couldn’t decide if I really liked him enough to date him, he was too serious sometimes for me. I needed him to be able to laugh it off with me when I mess up on the ice because that was how I dealt with it. He doesn’t quite understand that yet.

“Whatever you say, Maxi.” Sharpie called, his tone implying that he didn’t believe me then he moved to go sit with Seabrook. Jon replaced him, quickly,

“What was that about?”

“Oh, he just wanted to know how I was enjoying the trip and the pranks.” I informed him, I’m good at covering up things when I want to mess with someone. Let’s just face the facts watching Jon and Pat get mad at Sharpie and Burish is priceless plus I’m going to come out of this unscathed.

“Oh, yeah, those two really hounded on us last year. They’d steal our bags and change our breakfast orders. I knew it was them all along but Sharpie finally admitted it at the end of the season.” Jon told me, as he grabbed my iTouch from me,

“What are you listening to?”

“Black Betty by Ram Jam just ‘cause.” I laughed, because of how hokey it was, “Wanna listen with me?”

“Sure, why not.” He replied, throwing an arm over my shoulder while taking the ear bud I was holding between my fingers. Upon listening to it for a few minutes his face twisted into an amused expression before he looked at me with a raised eyebrow.

“What?” I asked, coyly.

“Why not earth do you listen to this?” He inquired.

“I don’t know because it makes me laugh I guess.” I told him, I would never admit the real reason to him.

“I see, what are we going to listen to know?” He asked, leaning into me so that his lips brushed againist my earlobe as he spoke and placing a hand on my knee.

“HAND CHECK!!” Sharpie announced, loudly from the front of the plane. Several people actually raise their hands up. Those included were Kaner, Burish, Seabrook, Campbell, Kopecky, and Sharpie himself. Byfuglien shook his head,

“Ya’ll are nuts.”

“Everyone knows that Tazer over there is trying to molest poor little Maxi. That’s why we called it, to prevent him from dishonoring our lady.” Campbell retorted, his red hair bouncing.

“I’m not as innocent as you think. Just because I don’t act like it doesn’t mean I’m not.” I grumbled under my breath. Jon shot me a shocked look and I sighed,

“What did you think that I was a virgin?”

“Yeah, kinda, you just seemed like a girl that followed the rules.” He admitted, shrugging his shoulders as if he was indifferent about the topic.

“Well, college has the power to change one’s morals. Especially when you go to Michigan. Talk about party all night long.” I giggled a little in remembrance of the wild nights my teammates and i had enjoyedup there.

“Well, I’d have to agree with you, North Dakota Unv. really changed me even though I only went there for my freshman year.” He granted.

“You played for the Fighting Sioux?” I asked, spitting out the last part of the sentence like it was a deadly poison.

“You have a problem with North Dakota?” He jested, pulling away from me, slightly.

“Yeah, I do. You guys got too much hype for being like any other team. You’re just lucky that I hate Notre Dame even more.” I notified him, earning a laugh from him.

“Because they beat you guys in the Frozen Four?” He inquired.

“Um duh! But you lost to Boston College, that’s an honor! I would’ve gladly taken that loss rather than lose to the Fighting Irish!” I exclaimed loudly. This made everyone on the plane laugh. I worship Jerry York and the Boston College program and had a chance to go there but chose to go to Michigan because of home state pride.

“So are we gonna listen to more music or what?” Jon asked, changing the subject so that I would stop ranting.

“Nope, I wanna watch a movie.” I told him, as I put away my iPod and pulled out my portable DVD player. Jon sighed and placed a hand on his forehead,

“What movie are we going to watch?”

“Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End!” I smiled.

“Pirates? Aren’t you a little old to be playing pirates?” Questioned Burish.

“Mind your own business, Adam!” I scolded, waving my finger at him in annoyance.

“Well, I think that it’s a great choice. You know what that made me think of?” Jon questioned, taking the DVD player from me and placing it in his lap. I nodded, moving the arm rest up so that I could; comfortably lay my head on his shoulder. In response, he moved his arm back around my shoulder so that he could hold me closer againist his side. Then I answered him,

“’And so, we shall go to war.’” We both busted out laughing as we settled in to watch the movie.

.........

Once we arrived at the hotel and settled into our rooms. I was going to room with Kaner and Tazer. I know we are sleeping together, but that’s beside the point. Jon and Pat had gone done to dinner after I urged them to go ahead without me because I needed to change into some nicer clothes. Which I did before heading over to Sharpie and Burish’s room which was across the hall.

“Alright, what’s the plan?” I demanded, as I entered their room with my eyes covered just in case they were indecent because I never knew with those two.

“You can uncover your eyes now.” Adam stated, with a sarcastic tone in his voice that meant that he didn’t appreciate being thought of in that matter.

“Well, I never know with you two.” I joked, sitting on his bed and pulling out my phone to reply to a text from Jon,

‘Are you coming down or what?’ I sighed knowing that this prank was going to take some time, so I replied,

‘I don’t think so. I’m jet-lagged from the flight so I wanna take the chance to relax before you guys come up. Sorry : (‘

“We are going to exchange their clothes with these.” Sharpie explained tossing some rather tiny looking clothes that looked the ones that Jon and Pat had packed.

“How did you know?” I pondered more to myself than I did to them.

“I went through their bags while they were at practice since I had the day off.” Sharpie winked at me, “And then I made a quick pit stop at Good Will before heading to the airport.”

“How are they not going to notice?” I questioned, folding my arms over my chest.

“Um, Maxi, it’s 11:30 and everyone is beat from playing San Jose and then having practice, so they are too exhausted to notice.” He tried to explain his logic to me but I wasn’t buying it.

“Your job is just to bring their bags over here so that we can exchange the clothes and then take them back.” Burish explained. I nodded, this wasn’t the best prank I had ever heard of but maybe simple is best when it comes to these guys. Most of the pranks they had done on me involved prank calls, exchanging my shampoo with some kind of condiment or drink, and hanging lingerie instead of my gear before practice. “Now hurry up because I’m sure Tazer thinks we’re up to something.”

“Fine.” I mumbled stocking out of their room and back into mine. Slinging both of their duffle bags on my shoulders and then ran back across the hall so no one would notice me. I couldn’t help but start to giggle; I loved doing this kind of stuff to Freshman, especially during Hell Week.

Patrick and Adam were extremely efficient at folding Jon and Pat’s clothes back exactly the way they had it. I couldn’t believe it. They also took out Jon’s water bottles and placed a bag of condoms inside. I glared as they handed they bags back to me. They just gave me these really goofy expressions. Then I walked back out into the hallway and placed their bags where they had originally been, before finally crashing on the bed that I had claimed as mine.

I must’ve dozed off because I wasn’t even aware that Jon and Kaner had come back before I heard groans, anger coming from the bathroom.

“I can’t believe this.” Kaner growled as he stomped out of the bathroom wearing a Blackhawks shirt that was about 3 sizes too small and boxers that were way too big, “Tazer, check your clothes cause mine are all jacked up. I bet Sharpie and Burish had something to do with this.”

Jon, whom I hadn’t noticed was sitting on the bed beside me, got up and checked his bag. I stifled a chuckle into the pillow when I saw his expression as he pulled out a bag of condoms. He, then, continue to pull out his clothes all of which were too small for him.

“Hey, Dillan, did Sharpie and Burish come in here while you were getting ready?” He asked, finally turning to me. I just shook my head and sat up,

“No, I had the bathroom door open, no one came in. If they did, they did it after I passed out.” I suggested. Jon then hopped back on the bed and called Sharpie on the hotel phone,

“Hey, Burish ask Sharpie what he did with mine and Kaner’s clothes….Yeah, someone also put a bag of condoms in there, too…What happened? Someone got in our bags and took’em then and put clothes that were way too small in there….You don’t know who did it? Okay, whatever.” He sighed and hung up.

“They did it, I just know they did. Let’s go in there and get our clothes because there is no way in hell that I am sleeping in these rags before a game tomorrow.” Kaner stated as he emerged from the bathroom with his clothes from earlier on and so we did.

“Hey, guys, I heard about your clothes,” greeted Sharpie as he reclined in bed, covers pulled up to his chest and holding his notorious camera. Jon and Kaner said nothing as they began to dig around the room for their missing clothes. They found them in the drawers underneath the TV.

“Haha, yeah we don’t know who messed with your clothes, oh yeah that’s a good one.” Jon mocked, as he piled up all of his clothes in his arms as did Kaner and walked out of the room.

“Good job, my apprentice.” Sharpie congratulated me with an evil laugh. I just rolled my eyes and followed the boys out the door,

“As if.” With that I closed the door and hopped back into bed ready to kick the Flames asses the next night.
