Kitten

Prologue

It was raining as the boy ran home, splashing through puddles and dodging through trees, cradling a precious ball of damp fur in his arms.

There was something in those wide, hazel eyes that simply melted the young boy’s heart and he knew that he couldn’t leave the kitten outside in such terrible weather.

“Mom! Mom! Mom!” he cried as he burst in through the back door. “Look what I found! Mom, can we keep her? Please, Mom, please?”

His mother took one look at his hopeful face and outstretched arms and smiled even as she shook her head in exasperation. “Oh, Brendon …” she said and the boy knew he had won.
