We've Got It All Figured Out... For Now

Your Little Twin

“How are you sweetie?” Josh asked one evening once he came inside from riding.

“I’m okay. I want to have this baby though,” I groaned. “I’m sick of being pregnant.”

“I’m sure it’ll be coming up soon. Your due date was yesterday so I’m sure any time now we’ll be welcoming our new little Grant baby into the world,” He grinned while kissing my cheek.

Josh sat on the couch while I laid on my side with my head in his lap as he ran a hand through my hair.

“The party can start now!” Kylee shouted as she walked through the door with her Toddie and Mason.

“What party?” Josh asked once they sat down and Mason trotted up to Emma’s room in search of her.

“The preggo party!” Ky giggled.

“Wow, and all these years I thought Kirstie was the crazy one,” Todd laughed.

“Don’t pick on my wife,” Josh stated as he leaned down and left a kiss on my forehead then his other hand started gently rubbing my back.

“I’m not picking on her, I’m stating the truth!” He countered.

“Todd does kind of have a point,” I laughed.

“So, do you know what you’re going to name the new Grant baby?” Ky changed the subject.

“Um…. Well we have a few ideas. We were kind of going to wait and see the baby then decide what name it looks like more,” I giggled.

“Wow Kirstie,” Todd shook his head. “That is something only you would do.”

“It sounds like the natives are getting restless,” Josh chuckled when we heard Mase and Emma squealing and laughing.

The two of them came rushing down the stairs and ran around but they eventually calmed down once Todd snagged them and set Mason on one leg and Emma on the other.

“What are you silly guys doing?” Ky asked while giving them each a little tickle.

As they babbled on my hand instinctively went to my stomach when I felt a pain shoot through my stomach and it felt….lower.

“Baby, what’s wrong?” Josh asked with a voice full of worry.

“Nothing, I’m fine,” I tried to tell him.

“Kirstie, we’ve been best friends since we were little kids…. I know when you’re lying to me,” He softly said with a little smile. “You had a contraction didn’t you?”

“Yeah,” I whispered.

“We should get you to the hospital,” Ky started.

“She’s not having the baby yet,” Todd rolled his eyes. “She probably just ate something that didn’t agree with her.”

“Todd, I’ve had a baby before, I think I know what a contraction feels like,” I shot at him.

“Mommy, are you okay?” Emma asked while coming over and putting her little hand on my cheek.

“Yeah, I’m fine honey,” I smiled while planting a kiss on her cheek.

“I think you’re going to be a big sister soon, Emma,” Kylee smiled as she held her sleepy boy.

A while later after more of Todd telling me I wasn’t going to have a baby we went to the hospital. I started having more and more contractions but Josh was with me the entire way. He was so sweet just like he was with Emma. Josh never left my side the entire 37 hours I was in labor. Did you hear that? THIRTY SEVEN HOURS! With Emma it only took like 15!

I was so happy when they finally brought in our little baby, all wrapped up in a soft blue blanket. Josh and I shared a big smile before the nurse placed our baby in my arms.

“He’s your little twin, Josh,” I smiled. “He looks just like you.”

“He’s so beautiful,” He replied while resting his head on my shoulder and wrapping his arms around the two of us. Josh and I each shed a few tears from pure happiness.

“What should we name him?” I asked.

“What does he look like to you?” Josh questioned with the cutest little smile.

“I think he looks like a Christian,” I grinned.

“I like that. Then he could be Chris too,” Josh replied. “Christian Michael Grant.”

“Aw,” I cooed.

I handed our baby over to Josh who cradled him gently. Both of us leaned down and left a kiss on each of his cheeks and his eyes opened up to reveal two big caramel ones staring back at us. Now we have two babies with Josh’s gorgeous eyes!

”Where’s the baby?” Emma squealed while running into the room along with the future Potters and Josh and my parents.

“Emma, you gotta be quiet around babies,” Josh whispered to her as she nodded her little head.

“Come here honey,” I cooed while opening my arms for her.

She crawled over to me and sat in my lap as I wrapped my arms around her. Emma looked down at her new brother and a big smile came across her face.

“His name is Christian,” I told her.

“I love him,” She beamed.

“We all love him,” Josh replied.

I don’t think I could be any happier right now. I have a happy and healthy baby boy, an amazing daughter that is such a joy, and a wonderful husband whom I love so much. I agree with that old Christmas movie; it’s a wonderful life.
