Red Snow

Mom

I stretched and my bones popped, releasing all the stiff created by sleeping. Scratching my belly I rolled out of bed and looked around the room.

I gasped as cool hands wrapped themselves around my waist.

"Es ist Samstag, machte Mama Frühstück." I smiled shyly at him, picked up a shirt and pulled it over my head. Looking down, I saw that it was a band one. Reading upside down, Rammstein.

The shirt went past my upper thighs, covering my boxers. In conclusion, I didn't need pants, so I left our room without them. Walked downstairs and smelled apple.

"Est ist Apfel-Pfannkuchen" I liked Luca's mom. She hadn't asked any questions, treated me like I belonged. Those were really the best things she could have ever done for me. Every time I looked at her, I tried to convey how great full I was. It seemed she had the same gift as Luca, I think she understood.

She also knew how hungry I was, how I was feeling. How I worked. Her name was Adelaide, she had Luca when she was eighteen, had gotten a vocational degree in cosmetology. She worked for a company that helped people get reading for public appearances or performances. Things like dance performances, big theater shows that came into town, politicians.

She didn't make a large amount of money but it was enough to buy a house in a moderately good neighborhood.

I hopped into Luca's lap, stealing bites of the pancakes from his plate. Mom sat down across the table from us and smiled. The boy behind me rested his chin on my shoulder, kissing my cheek before taking a few bites.

"I arranged for you two to start school Monday. I'm sorry it's so soon but I thought it would be best to get back on a schedule as soon as possible." Adelaide smiled and we fell into comfortable silence, eating.

After breakfast Luca and I showered together, nothing sexual. Just calm and loving. I did my hair, pulled on pants and a baggy soft navy sweater. Luca had promised to take me exploring the downtown area and said that we would meet one of his friends, if they were working today.

We got onto a bus and rode it all the way to the city center. The center of the shopping part anyway.

First we went to a confectioner's shop, it was called "Sommer Gift" The logo was a cartoon bottle with candies in it. A label with X's.

We walked in, I went and looked at all the sweets in the display boxes.

"Wie gehts?" Luca nodded to a tall man behind the counter. He had dark red hair and light skin, wearing black skinny jeans that weren't nearly as tight as Luca's. He smiled at Luca and raised his eyebrows, looking at me.

"Whose this?" I blushed and slid myself slightly behind Luca.

"Das ist Snow." Luca grabbed my hand, tracing circles in my palm.

"You brought ass back from America with you!" The man said, looking me over again.

Luca's face was washed into a new expression. Eyes narrowed, jaw set, neck tight. I clutched his hand tightly, trying to tell him it was OK. There wasn't anything to be mad about here.

"Not just a fuck Erik, boyfriend." I think Erik understood Luca's body language. The other man swallowed, adam's apple bobbing.

"Sorry, that's just not like you. But if you're happy..." Erik faded into silence that diffused and blanketed the room. I pulled on Luca's sleeve, watched his eyes and told him that it was OK. His eyes relaxed, the room became softer.

"Look, do you want anything?" Erik asked. Luca looked down at me and I walked slowly to the display case, pointed to a Mandeldreieck. Luca got some Hazelnut cookies as well. Erik gave them to us at half price, I think to make Luca forgive him. My boy was someone whose bad side you didn't want to be on.

We wandered around for a while after, me pulling Luca wherever interested me. After a while my belly rumbled. I put a hand to it and blushed, embarrassed that I was hungry already. Luca looked gently at me, guided me to a small shop.

I told Luca what I wanted, and he ordered for me. I waited for my tea to cool then sipped at it slowly, eating the bread I had gotten along with it.

Luca had gotten coffee and some sort of pastry. I had tried a small bite. Even though it was sweet, it was still too flavorful for me. He had laughed at my scrunched up face, saying that I was rediculus for thinking it wasn't good.

That night, we stayed up late drinking and playing video games. I was excited to see that Luca had Gears of War 3, one of my favorite games. He also had Skyrim, which I love too. But that's a single player game.

The sun had already risen when we went to bed. Luca took the last gulp from his glass of absinth. We had slightly less than half the bottle left, saving it for another time. Drinking wasn't a big deal here. I liked that. I never really had the intentions to get plastered, I simply enjoy drinking sometimes.

They seemed to understand that here. Luca knew where his mom kept all the alcohol, and it seemed like she didn't mind as long as he wasn't being irresponsible.

I cuddled into Luca's side, fitting my form flush to his. Then drifted off, happy and slightly fuzzy.
