Imprinted on My Heart

Chapter 14

Maeve’s POV

I laughed as Jo dropped to the ground, barely missing the kick I aimed at her head, and glared up at me
“Christ! Bloody hell Maeve, this is supposed to be no contact” she huffed, I shrugged
“I didn’t hit you did I?” I pointed out, Jo rolled her eyes before getting to her feet and throwing an arm around my shoulders
“you’re doing really well honey” she told me, I smiled and Mia came over saying the same thing
“yeah you’re catching on very quickly” she said, I chuckled and Mia got into position with Jo; just as they were about to attack a whistle sounded.

I turned my attention to the front of the group where Adolf stood
“alright everyone, enough for today, go home and rest up, we’ll come back tomorrow” he ordered before walking off.

I looked at Mia and Jo who shrugged and relaxed, Jo hugged Mia and I before walking off towards Brice who is waiting for her. I look at Mia and ask
“are you going to Nick’s today?” she nods
“yeah we have plans to go catch a movie later” she told me, I grin
“well have fun and don’t do anything I wouldn’t” I winked at her, she giggled before giving me a hug and walking off to Nick.

I turned around when I felt an arm wrap around my waist, looking up I looked into Alex’s beautiful eyes as he smiled down at me
“you wanna come to mine?” he asked, I nodded and we stepped away from one another and shifted.

Arriving back at Alex’s after our fun filled run here, filed with chasing and wrestling, I grabbed some clothes that I stashed here and dressed before going into the house.

I walked into the kitchen to see Annette stood at the sink, washing some dishes, she looked over her shoulder at me and smiled
“hello dear, how did you find it?” she asked, I smiled back and shrugged
“it was alright, not too difficult but I figure it will be different when we actually fight for real” I told her, she nodded solemnly
“it is” I nodded and walked over to give her a hug before walking out of the room to go sit in the sitting room so I could wait for Alex.

As I sat down Adolf walked into the room and took a seat in the armchair opposite from me, his face serious which meant trouble.

He looked me in the eyes and asked
“Maeve, do you think you’re capable of killing one of them?” he asked, I frowned confused
“sorry?” he sighed and ran a hand along his thigh in an agitated move
“could you kill a vampire if you had to, rip their head off?” he reiterated, I bit my lip as I thought about it
“I don’t know, I guess I could if I thought they were going to kill me or someone I loved which they would be so I would have to say yes” I answered, he nodded at my answer then asked
“Maeve, I have an important job for you, I need to ask if you would be able to sneak up behind the group of vampires and take some out from there, you would be untraceable because they can’t scent you so you could be able to move through them a lot easier than any of us, do you think you could do that?” he asked

I raised a brow, thinking it over; it would be an advantage to have someone at the back of the vampire group to control things a bit. I opened my mouth to tell him it was a good idea when Alex’s voice came from the doorway
“could I talk to you father” he said in a low tone. I turned to look at him and saw he was half hidden by the shadows in the corridor but what I could see of his facial expression was cold and hard, all angled lines. Adolf nodded and got to his feet, walking out of the room and down the hall to the kitchen with Alex.

I sat there for a moment before I heard their voices rise. Curiosity got the best of me and I walked into the hallway to get within better hearing range
“You can’t possibly be considering this! She’s barely started training and you want her to go on a suicide mission! It’s irresponsible!” Alex gritted out at his father,
“Alex we need her to do this, it would be a great help and she is already a good fighter, with more training over the next week she would be better she can handle herself and she is our best option for this” Adolf insisted calmly
“like hell! I’m not having her putting her life in danger just because you think it’s a good plan, hell no!” Alex shouted. A scowl crossed my face; he thinks he can dictate my life?

I opened the kitchen door and glared at Alex, both of the men having turned to face me, my face set
“you can’t tell me what to do Alex, if I choose to do this then I’m going to bloody well do it!” I told him. He glared right back before stalking towards me and grabbing me by the arm, dragging me from the kitchen, up the stairs and to his room where he shoved me in and closed te door behind himself.

He moved further into the room to face me
“you can’t do it, I forbid you” he told me, I raised a brow
“oh you forbid me do you?” I asked, he nodded and I chuckled coldly “you’re not my father Alex, you’re not a dictator who gets to tell me how to live my life and what to do with it, if I want to help this pack then I am going to damn well do it whether you want me to or not” I spat.

Alex glared right back
“you are not going to do it! Its lunacy, you’re not experienced in fighting, you’re not as strong as the rest of us and you’ve no mind for battle. If you go do it you will die and I will not let that happen, you are not going to do it in fact you are going to go downstairs right now and tell my father you aren’t” he ordered, standing inches in front of me, towering over me, his face red with constrained rage. He didn’t seem to notice I was damn well beyond furious, before he could process it I had slapped him and stormed out of his room, down the stairs and out of the house, leaving him there clutching his cheek in shock.
