Nothing Even Matters

05

**Five months later**

Today was the day that I have been waiting for since I was ten years old. My wedding day. Kris and I decided to get married a month after the Penguins won the Stanley Cup and have a small wedding. We didn’t want anything huge. Just friends and family. Sarah and I spent the last four months planning my dream wedding. We were having it at the beach like I’ve always wanted and I was so excited.

The room that we were using for me and my girls was very crowded. There was my mom and Kris’ mom, Hannah, Sarah, and Vero all getting ready. I looked at the mirror that was set up, adjusting my dress and I met Sarah’s glare in the mirror. I couldn’t help but laugh at her expression.

“Shut up, this isn’t funny. You’re lucky I love you because otherwise I would be killing you right now.” She spat at me, pulling her phone out of her sneakers.

Sarah doesn’t like to wear dresses, let alone a girly color one. When I picked out the dress color she had a fit. Kris and Jordan thought it was funny, I on the other hand just ignored her. She was my maid of honor and she was going to wear what I wanted her to wear.

There was a knock on the door before my dad walked in. “Alright girls, it’s time.” The moms left, leaving the bridal party and dad. “You ready?” He asked.

I smiled and nodded. “I am.”

The group of us made our way outside and to the beach where the ceremony was being held. We took a step onto the white carpet that was laid out and the music started. The three girls made their way down the aisle. Soon the music changed, signaling that it was my turn to walk down the aisle. The guests all stood up and looked at me, but I paid no attention to them. My attention was on Kris at the other end of the aisle. He looked good in his black pants and white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows. I know that’s not appropriate for weddings, but when it’s a hundred degrees outside and you are going to be standing still for a while you want to be comfortable. Plus, I liked it since it wasn’t just Kris who was dressed like that. Jordan, Sid, and Marc-Andre were as well and they all looked good as well.

Kris smiled at me and reached for my hand and I quickly took it. The electricity was still there, after all this time my heart still did flips when he touched me. I don’t really remember the ceremony, all I know is that Kris and I never took our eyes off each other. Sarah had to call my name once or twice to give me the ring, causing the crowd to chuckle.

“Ladies and gentlemen, may I present Mr. and Mrs. Kristopher Letang.” The priest announced and everyone went crazy.

Once we were done with the receiving line, the bridal party hopped into the limo and we made out way to the hotel where we were having the reception. When we got there, there were people everywhere and having a great time. We did the dances that we needed to and then sat down for dinner.

Once dinner was done and the speeches I made my way over to the DJ. I had something special I wanted to do. Once everyone was quite and Kris was standing awkwardly in the middle of the dance floor, I took the microphone from the DJ.

“Kris, today has been by far the best day ever and I just wanted to let you know that I love you so much. I remembered this song from my teenage years and it instantly made me think of you.” I nodded to the DJ and “Nothing Even Matters” by Big Time Rush started playing. I could hear Hannah and Sarah groan as I walked past them and to the dance floor where Kris was standing. “I know it’s a cheesy boy band song, but I love this song and -” He cut me off with a kiss.

“It’s perfect. May I ‘ave this dance?” He asked.

I couldn’t help but laugh at him. “Of course.” We danced to the music even though it was a faster beat. I just loved being in his arms. Like the song says, “’cuz the world stops when I put my arms around ya.” So true.

Kris pulled me closer to him. “Je t’aime, Mrs. Letnag.”

“I will never get tired of that.” I smiled. “Je t’aime, Mr. Letang.” I placed a kiss to his lips and smiled. We were married.

**Four years later**

Kris and I have been married for four wonderful years now and had a beautiful son who got all his father’s looks. Nathan Lucas was Kris’ pride and joy, he takes him to practices with him and has taught him how to play hockey just as well as his father.

“Mommy, mommy, mommy.” Nathan called from the window.

“What is it, sweetie?” I asked, putting down my book.

“Daddy’s home!” Nathan jumped up and down in front of the door waiting for his dad.

I smiled and got off the couch, and picked Nathan up. We had some big news to tell Kris today and I had promised Nathan that he could tell him. When Kris opened the door, Nathan let out a squeal of delight.

“Daddy!” He yelled, launching himself out of my arms and into his father’s.

Kris laughed and hugged his son. “’ey buddy. Were you good for mommy while I was gone?”

Nathan rolled his eyes, just like me, I laughed. “Yes.”

I smiled at my two boys. “Yes, he was very good and very helpful.” I smiled, placing a kiss on my son’s head. Then I kissed Kris hello. “So good, that I promised him that he could stay up until you got home and tell you something.”

“Oh really?” Kris questioned looking between the two of us. “Well, Nathan, what do you ‘ave to tell me?”

Nathan was bouncing up and down in Kris’ arms and had a huge smile on his face. “Mommy’s gunna have a baby!” He practically shouted.

Kris looked at Nathan and then looked at me with a smile on his face. “Is she now? Well isn’t that great?”

Nathan nodded his head. “I’m going to be a big brother.”

“That you are little man.” I smiled. Nathan let out a yawn and Kris and I chuckled. “Now it’s time for the big brother to go to bed. Daddy has the day off tomorrow so we can all do something fun together.”

“I’ll put ‘im to bed.” Kris said, kissing my forehead.

While Kris put Nathan to bed, I locked up the house and put the dog in her crate before heading to bed myself. When I walked in the room, Kris was taking off his tie. He had just gotten home from a week long road trip and the team did pretty well only losing one of the three games. I walked up behind him and wrapped my arms around his waist.

“I missed you.” I whispered, placing a light kiss between his shoulder blades.

Kris spun around and trapped me in his arms. “I missed you too.” He placed a passionate kiss on my lips. “’ow far along are you?”

“Just a little over four weeks.” I smiled.

“Does Sarah know?”

I laughed. “Of course she does, she went with me to get the test.”

“You know Jordan is starting to freak out.” Kris informed me.

“Yeah Sarah too. Growing up she always dreaded getting pregnant.” I chuckled. Sarah and Jordan got married about two years after Kris and I did and now Sarah was nine months pregnant with their first child, my god-baby.

Kris shuddered slightly. “Jordan being a dad, I can’t imagine it.”

I smacked his arm. “Jordan has grown up so much, Leave him alone. Now I’m worried about Sarah, I always have when we were growing up.” I laughed.

Kris laughed as well and ran his hand through his hair. I just continued to stare at him, he knew what that did to me. He smirked at me before doing it again. I pulled him into me and pressed my lips to his. Getting the response I wanted, Kris moved us to the bed and hovered over me. We were both breathing heavily when we broke the kiss and I wasted no time getting his tie and dress shirt off. Soon all clothes were shed and we were showing each other how much we really missed one another.

“I love you, Ashley.” Kris whispered as we laid there catching our breath.

“I love you, too, Kris. So much.” I placed a kiss on his chest. I snuggled into his side and we fell asleep wrapped up in each others arms.

Because the world stops when I put my arms around ya. And nothing even matters.
