A Vampire's Kiss and Touch of Revenge

A Day In The Life Of...

After I made breakfast for everyone, Pete had decided against our date for the evening and instead teach me how to fight better. It was fine by me because Pete was definitely hot and I considered this a semi date. He had Patrick show me all the weapons and I was instantly smitten with the crossbow which Pete refused to start me on in the training room.

When we were done training I told Pete I was going for a swim and headed upstairs. I wondered how Erelin’s date with Brendon was and how Sam and Joe were doing on their patrolling. I wanted them to all be careful.

I got my bathing suit on and ran down to the pool. The water felt nice and I decided to test my backstroke to see if I still had what it took. I couldn’t get all the thoughts of me and Pete landing on each other and him getting close to me out of my head.

“Hey, mind if I join you?” Pete said surprising me as I was floating on my back in the water, lost in my own world.

“Sure, I guess.” I said.

“I think a swim will do the trick. I have energy that was left over from our session and I need to burn it.” He said.

Wow! I so read into that wrong and grinned. He didn’t notice it thank goodness.

“Well, you want to race me in this big pool?” I said.

“I’d win. Vampires are faster.” He said.

“Maybe on land but water is my turf.” I said laughing.

“I accept your challenge.” He said as we lined up in out positions.

“On the count of three and to one end and back.” I said. “One, two, three!” I said taking off on my back then switching to the regular swim technique. I admit that he was fast as he said but I won. I was a fast swimmer and always had been.

“Wow! You beat me.” He said.

“I told you.” I said breathing heavy for air.

Pete and I swam and talked a little more. He was suddenly interested in everything that was going on in my life. He asked me about my old job and told me Sam had told him about it.

“I do miss my job I had. I loved helping those kids. They needed someone to look up to and I encouraged all of them to fight as hard as they could. I was always there if any one of them needed me no matter what time it was. I read stories to the younger kids and talked to the older ones. I took some out on good days and sat with them on bad days. I have to admit that it hurt my heart when one would pass away but I at least let them know that they weren’t alone and that people loved and cared for them.” I said starting to cry.

“I didn’t mean to upset you.” Pete said getting close to me.

“No, it is just that I don’t understand why my dad made me quit. He never explained other than that if I didn’t do what he said he wouldn’t pay my tuition any more. I had to finish school so what was I to do? I always wanted to help people. And now come next Monday after spring break, I have to go and drop out of my classes I guess.” I said.

“Amanda, I’m sorry.” He said pulling me into a hug. “I like that you want to help people. You have a good heart. Maybe that is why I am falling for you.” Pete said whispering to me.

Was Pete really serious? He wasn’t trying to use me to get to my dad? I wanted to believe him. I wanted to be close to him. Pete was so much different than Colin and I want to get past that loser.

“I think I am going to call it a night.” I said getting out of the pool.

“You want to watch a movie in my room with me?” Pete asked.

“Sure. I’d like that.” I said heading to my room to change.

I changed and walked into Pete’s room. I crawled into his bed and laid my head on his shoulder. He had put in Peter Pan of all things which made me laugh.

“What? I really liked this movie as a kid.” He replied.

“I just didn’t picture you a Disney fan.” I said.

“Are you kidding? I love Disney movies. I never want to grow up.” He said giving me an adorable boyish grin.

“Oh, Pete you and your charm.” I said rolling my eyes.

I fell asleep on him and woke up to a phone ringing. Pete had gotten up to answer the phone. It was about six am, almost sunrise.

I heard Pete sound upset and ask so many questions. Then I heard him say something like get to a shelter quick and Patrick and Andy would go get him. Then he hung up.

“We have a problem. Erelin was kidnapped and they hit Brendon over the head and dropped him off in some alley for the sun to get him.” Pete said.

“Did he say where?” I said getting up out of bed quickly.

“Yeah, he’s in an alley looking for shelter off Liberty Street.” Pete said.

“I’m going.” I said heading for the door.

“No, you are not.” Pete said grabbing my arm and turning me around.

“Look, we don’t have much time. I know that area and I can go. Take Patrick and Andy with you and some blankets to cover Brendon.” Pete said worried.

“It has to be Colin.” I said running to my room to throw on some clothes.

I ran downstairs to see Pete at the end of the stairway and a banged up Joe. Pete yelled for Patrick and he and Jenny came running.

“Joe, what happened?” Jenny asked.

“I hurt all over. I was hit and knocked unconscious, woke up and took a cab here. Sam. They took Sam!” He said frantically running back to the door.

“Wait, Joe!” Pete said grabbing his arm. “Who took her?” Pete asked.

“Some masked guys who want Amanda.” Joe said starting to cry. He was so upset over this and I couldn’t blame him. It was all my fault this happened.

“What would they want with you?” Jenny asked.

“Long story I will fill you in later.” Pete said.

“Patrick you and Andy go with Amanda to get Brendon. They took Erelin too and left Brendon out in the sun.” Pete said.

“Then that means they know he is a vampire.” Patrick said.

“No. I go alone. It’s me he wants. I can get Colin to let them go.” I said.

“Amanda I am not letting you risk your life over some idiot.” Pete said.

I looked at Joe and then at Pete. “You would do it for your friends, right? Sam and Erelin are mine and I will not let him hurt them or anyone else in this house.” I said upset.

“Look, we are wasting time. I can protect myself. He won’t hurt me. I am too valuable to him.” I said helping Joe to the steps. Jenny took over and helped him upstairs where he kept hollering to save Sam.

“It’s a trap.” Pete said. “I don’t like it.” He added.

“He will only hurt Andy and Patrick with his guys too. It’s the only way and I have my phone in my back pocket.” I said grabbing the blankets Pete had on the floor.

“Amanda do you trust me because what I am about to do…” Pete said.

“Save it. I will fight you Pete. I will not let you control me into staying here.” I shot back. The fire in me came out. After all I was a redhead.

“That wasn’t what I was going to say.” Pete said placing his hands on my shoulders.

“Oh. I apologize then.” I said looking in his concerned eyes. They were conflicted and I knew by reading them he didn’t want to say what he was about to.

“Amanda you trust me, right?” He asked.

“Yes.” I said reading his eyes. He was very upset and worried.

“I am going to bite you.” He said.

“How does that help our cause?” I asked not liking the idea.

“I won’t suck your blood. I will barely puncture your skin enough to be able to call for you. That is what vampires do when they suck someone’s blood but let them live. They call for them in their mind to find out where they are or have the victim come back to them. This way I can know where you are. We will have a link and we can save you.” He said.

“I see. If it will help save my friends then do it.” I said.

“Patrick, go get some tissues so she can wipe the blood away. It won’t be a bad bite for anyone to notice.” Pete said trying to be reassuring.

“One thing though.” I said concerned.

“Yes.” He said.

“Have you done this before?” I asked.

“No but it is an instinct in every vampire. I don’t want to hurt you.” He said looking in my eyes with pain.

“I know.” I said.

“Close your eyes and try to be still.” Pete said holding me and leaning into my neck.
I felt a sharp pain in my neck and then this weird feeling start to come over me and then it was gone. Pete had pulled away and he didn’t suck any of my blood although he had a little on his lips from the initial bite.

“Are you alright?” Pete asked.

“I think so.” I said wiping the blood off my neck from a tissue Patrick gave me.

“Are you?” I asked.

“Don’t worry, go help your friends. Just remember I will be here and if you don’t come back in a few hours tonight I will find you.” Pete said.

“Thank you.” I said walking over to kiss him but he backed away.

“Here! Take my car.” Patrick said throwing me his keys. I glanced at Pete and walked out the door ready to put an end to Colin’s game.
