Hypothetical Bruises, Of Course

First and Last

Hands wrap around your neck, and you wonder, ”Was it worth it?” The answer is no, it wasn’t worth it. The feeling of superiority, knowing that you’re right, is never worth the emotional damage you’re put through. After a while, you start to get tired of the constant lies people tell you, as you feel like you’re choking on drama. That’s where the hands come in. They may be no more of a figment of your imagination, but they feel like reality in the moment. When you’re sick of fighting back, what do you do? Do you let them suffocate you, taking your last breath? Apparently. The bruises are forming fast, scattering about your neck as if you spent the night before with your lover. Hypothetical bruises, of course. Bruises though, nonetheless. While the bruises may fade, the memories live on forever in your mind. The emotional damage? It wasn’t worth it.
