Vampires, Werewolves, and... Love? Oh My!

Hello Forks... Goodbye Life

The hour long car ride with Bella was mostly quiet except for the radio. It wasn't an uncomfortable silence, though. Bella and I are both very reserved. Growing up, we were never really talkative; she was shy while I just didn’t like people. But with us we didn’t really have to talk because it was like we knew what the other was thinking. Weird, huh? It's not like anyone could read minds. We were just kinda... connected.
"We're here," Bella said excitedly as we pulled up to the two story house. The pale paint was fading, the grass was starting to creep up onto the sidewalk, and rain was falling off the cover of the porch making a waterfall to get to the door. Nothing at all had changed since the last time I had been here. Inside, it was the same story. Everything was exactly like it had been when I’d last seen the house two years ago. School pictures of Bella and me lined the walls, the stairs still creaked as we went up, the door to the only bathroom in the house was open, and next to it was the room Bella and I would have to share. The two twin beds were cramped into the tiny room, an ancient rocking chair from when we were babies stood in the corner, the oak dresser lined the wall near the closet, and there was an old computer along the wall nearest the door that was hooked up to a cable for internet. Just great, I was living in the stone ages.
"Well, what do you think?"
"Kinda small, isn't it?" I muttered.
"Yeah, but it's cozy. And at least Charlie replaced the cribs with actual beds."
"Joy," I said sarcastically. "And all three of us have to share the bathroom? That'll be fun."
"Well, you get used to it. Come on, Liz, at least try not to hate it right away."
I sighed and looked at her. "Fine, Bella. Only because you asked, I'll try to make it work. But I'm not making any promises that I won't hate every second of it."
"That's all I ask," she said, smiling smugly. Bella knew that the only reason I was even here rather than running away was her. Bella was the only person on the planet I actually cared about. She used that fact to her advantage. I think it was something with the whole twin-connection thing.
The two of us were back in the living room watching the flat screen. Bella had started making spaghetti for dinner while I watched. Now, we were just waiting for the garlic bread to get done when the police cruiser pulled up. My dad rushed into the room and hung up his gun belt. I noticed that he didn't bother taking the bullets out like he did when we were little. Hmm, I might be able to use that to my advantage. I mean, I wasn’t suicidal or anything but you never know when a loaded gun can come in handy.
"Lizzy? Oh, Lizzy, you're here," he said, hugging me tightly.
"Hi, Dad," I replied in a monotone. "What's new?"
"Nothing, sweetheart-" I'll say- "I'm so glad you came to live up here."
"Yeah, yeah." As if I had a choice?
He tried to make small talk but I wasn’t paying much attention. "So are you ready for school tomorrow?"
"Yeah- wait, what?” I froze when he words registered in my brain. “School? But I just got here!" That was definitely not how I’d wanted to spend my first day.
"Dinner's ready," Bella tried saying.
"Well, Liz, you might as well just get settled right away."
"I can't believe it. I just got here and you're not even giving me time to adjust? Do you really expect me to just go with the flow after Mom shipped me off here and made me leave my life behind? I had it good over there. My own room and bathroom, a boyfriend, fun. And now I have to live with my police chief dad and perfect twin sister? You have got to be kidding."
Okay, so maybe that was uncalled for but I was beyond stressed out and on the verge of a break down. My rant might have been the reason that dinner was totally and awkwardly silent. Bella tried and failed a few times to lighten the mood. Dad was still glaring at me when the phone rang. "I guess I'll get that," Bella sighed.
"Hello?... Hey Alice... No, I told you not tonight... My sister came... I told you all this morning... I went over to your house and told you that we had to cancel our plans... Yes, Alice, Edward already knows... I told him he can't... Maybe he's not calling because he's respecting my wishes... Yeah, love ya, too... 'Kay, Bye."
"Friend of yours?" I muttered.
She blushed slightly. It's so easy to make her blush. "Uh, yeah. I was supposed to go out with my friend Alice and my boyfriend. I had to cancel when I found out you were coming."
"Oh, Bells. You shouldn't have. I'm sorry I ruined your plans. Although I do tend to do that," I added, glancing at my dad.
“There’s no need to be dramatic,” my dad scolded.
My eyes narrowed in his direction. I jumped to my feet and threw my napkin on the table. “I’m going to bed,” I announced. I stormed up the stairs and immediately scoped out the best way to sneak out of the window. I was contemplating whether or not to attempt to climb down the tree outside our window when Bella came in.
"Hey, are you all right?”
I shrugged. “Whatever, Bella.”
“Liz, you didn't ruin anything. I really missed you and I’m glad you’re here. Besides, I’ll get to see Alice and Edward tomorrow at school, anyway." She smiled, probably thinking of her boyfriend.
School... Joy- note the sarcasm.
