Vampires, Werewolves, and... Love? Oh My!

First Day

"Lizzy? Liz! Wake up." I could hear Bella trying in vain to get me up. She sounded cheery, like she'd been awake for hours already. She was seriously annoying. My eyes opened in slits and I saw that it was only 6:30.
I groaned and rolled onto my stomach. "It's too early. And I'm still jet lagged."
"Elizabeth Margaret Swan. Get up now." I still didn't move. "Fine," she muttered. Ten seconds later, I felt my head getting drenched with freezing water.
"Ah!" I screamed, jumping up. "Isabella Marie Swan! What the hell was that for?!"
She simply smiled at me. "Oh, good, you're up." I shot her a death glare and shook my head at her. "Well, get dressed. We don't have all day."
I rolled my eyes but started getting ready. I threw on some black skinny jeans, a red tank top, black hoodie, and blue and black etnies. "Why is it that you're so excited about me going to school?"
"Because I get to show off my hot sister! Come on, Liz. You'll absolutely love Forks High."
I snorted. "Yeah, right. And hot? What the hell are you smoking, Bells, and where can I get some?" She laughed, although I wasn't totally joking. Eh, better if she doesn't know that. My sister was too good to do anything like that.
It was still only 7:30 when Bella decided it was time to drag me out to her truck to leave. It was already raining so we had to make a mad dash to the 1953 Chevrolet; that didn’t help much though because I was still soaked from the stupid rain. The truck roared to life when she turning the ignition and the engine roared as she drove. "How fast can this thing go?" I nearly shouted over the engine.
"Um, not very. 60 is about its max. It's good for me though. You know I don't like to go fast and it does great in a wreck."
I chuckled. "You've tested that theory?"
"Sort of," she blushed. "Last year the roads were icy and Tyler lost control of his van. It hit the truck but I only had to replace the headlight. Tyler's parents had to sell the van for scrap metal."
I snorted. "Sweet. So if I ever stole your truck to use in a demolition derby, I'd be set to go."
"Pretty much."
By then, we were at the school, which was just off the highway like everything else in this stupid town. Bella parked in front of a small building with "office" painted on the walls. She yanked me out of the truck and led me in. The room was cozy but covered in potted plants that smelled like crap, as if it wasn’t green enough outside. It took everything I had to not plug my nose.
"Good morning, Ms. Cope," Bella sang.
"Well good morning, Bella. What brings you here this morning?"
"This is my sister, Lizzy. Today's her first day and we need her schedule and other stuff."
Ms. Cope eyed me up and down. Excitement showed in her eyes, probably from the gossip about me for the last day. "Of course. Charlie called me yesterday. Well, here's all your stuff. You need to get this paper signed by all your teachers and bring it back at the end of the day. I'm sure that Bella can show you around. I hope you enjoy Forks, Elizabeth."
"Yeah, yeah. Uh, thanks." I gave her a tight smile and followed Bella out.
Bella grabbed my schedule and scanned over it quickly. "Hey, we have almost all the same classes together. But you have first period on your own. Come on, I'll show you to your English class."
I don't think that Bella realized that I had already plugged my iPod speakers in my ears. The Killers' Mr. Brightside was blasting just low enough so I could still hear part of what my twin was saying. "Okay, well. I'll see you in PE."
"Yeah, yeah. See ya, Bells." God, it's about time she shut up. Growing up, I was always the more talkative one between the two of us. Bella was too shy. I mean, she's still shy and doesn't talk to strangers at all. She barely talked this much to me when we were growing up. I guess she must have really missed me to be talking more than normal.
I went in and had my English teacher sign the paper. He pointed me to an open seat and I went and leaned my head on the desk.
"Hi, I'm Jessica," a girl with blond hair stated. "You're new, right."
"Obviously," I muttered. "Just go shipped off here yesterday."
She giggled. "You're Bella's sister. Uh, Elizabeth?"
"Sure am."
Jessica pursed her lips and tried to think of something else to say. I was spared having to have a conversation with her by the teacher starting class. Only three seconds and that Jessica chick had managed to severely annoy me.
PE was my next class. The gym wouldn't have been hard to find but Bella met me after class to walk with me. "God, don't they know the Swan twins are athletically challenged? Are these people really suicidal enough to put us in the same PE class?"
Bella laughed. "I'm just glad I'm not going to be the only one clumsy one in that class."
"Well, I'm not as clumsy as you are. I won't be the worst in the class; that's a plus."
"Ha ha," she murmured drily. "Why does this school require PE all four years? Between the two of us, that could be catastrophic."
“You tell me, Bells. It’s your school, I’m just the newbie.”
We had almost reached the door to the gym when a strong boy with wild, bronze hair and golden eyes caught up with us and put his arm around Bella. They kissed each other before Bella started blushing wildly. "Lizzy, this is my boyfriend, Edward. Edward, this is my sister Lizzy. She just got here yesterday."
He shook my hand and I noticed that his was icy cold. "Edward, huh? I've heard about you. You're the jackass that broke my sister's heart. You're lucky that she's so forgiving and took you back." I saw both of them flinch visibly. "If you hurt her again, there will be hell to pay." I then turned and walked into class. I was a little out of line but anyone that would hurt my sister wasn’t okay in my book.
"Hi," a boy with blue eyes and blonde hair gelled in spikes said. "I'm Mike Newton. You're Elizabeth, right."
"Yep. What's it to you?"
He smiled and it reminded me of a little kid. Mike's got some pretty boyish looks but a teenage boy's brain. I rolled my eyes at my thoughts. He was just as annoying as Jessica had been.
The coach didn't make me dress out for PE. The rest of the class was forced to play soccer. Edward stayed near Bella and protected her whenever the ball came near while she cringed. Aw, they were actually really cute together. Too bad he was such a dick to her at the beginning of the year. Once, while I was sitting on the bleachers, the ball was kicked to me. Mike was annoying me by using his boy brain to try and flirt with me, so I kicked the ball right where the sun don't shine. Honestly, that was the most interesting thing in any of my classes.
At lunch, I took a raincheck on eating in the cafeteria and opted for just hiding in the forest and drinking a little bit of the wine cooler I hid in my backpack. I was annoyed with school and Jessica and Mike so I pulled my pocketknife from my bag and slid it across my arms until red rivulets were running down my forearms. After a while I pulled out my phone and dialed Jace's number.
"Yeah?" he answered.
"Hey, baby. Did you miss me?"
"You bet I did." I could hear him smirking. "What the fuck happened to you?"
I rolled my eyes and groaned. "I got sent to the middle of nowhere on the other side of the damn country. I guess Mom just had it with me. So what are you doing?”
He burped into the phone. “Getting drunk. I want you back here though, baby.”
“Of course you do. I’m just loveable like that,” I teased.
“Hell yeah you are.”
I could hear the note of seriousness in his voice and I didn’t really like it. I bit the inside of my cheek and let out a breath. “Listen, I've gotta go. I'll call you later?"
"Yeah, definitely. See ya soon, Liz."
I hung up and started walking toward the school. I finished up my drink and just tossed it into the sea of green trees. God this place sucks.
