My Undead Life With Damon Salvatore

Chapter 12

"Hey cutie." he answered to me. That was new, it made me smile, but then I remembered why I called in the first place.
"What did you do to Steve?" I sighed; it was hard being mad at him.
"Really? You're mad about it? Look what he did to you Kaylee, you know he deserved it." he was angry, that was clear.
"That may be true, but he looks terrible! What did you do to him?" whatever it was, it was bad.
"I scared him senseless. He deserved it to, he's a terrible person, and that's coming from me." He was now trying to make me feel bad; at least I think that's what he was doing.
"I appreciate it, trust me, I do. But, don't get too carried away." I sighed.
"Do you want to come over? I'm sure it's boring there, all by yourself with Eric." I tried not to giggle, but I did anyway.
"Yeah, but you have to come pick me up. I'm not alloys to drive." I loved it when he picked me up, I felt so special, especially when other people saw him pull up in the drive way. It was like 'Ha! Take that society!' I'm not too sure how it worked, but that's always what I thought when it happened.
"I'll be there in a minute." he hung up.

The rest of the day I spent it lounging around his house, we watched movies and talked. The Saturday that came was the ball. Little did I know, Damon was elected the 'host' so that meant I had to be with him.
This meant that, after everyone paraded around main street in their attire, they would go into the building that the dances were held in and then the grand march started. People would walk around, and they came around and bowed to the hosts. I would be seen by everyone. I wouldn't have minded this, except that they had over 1000 tickets sold.
I was at home Saturday, it had taken a lot of convincing to let my mom allow me to go. Sara was going, so was Mickayla, she was going with Erin.

They were over helping me with my hair. We pulled the top layer up in a bun on the top, with a gold bun holder over it. The res of my hair cascaded down the back in loose curls. The loose ends on the sides were curled in ringlets. I looked like a porcelain doll according to them.
I had a cream dress, that had short puffed sleeves and a low neck line. I was forced to wear a corset, which actually was comfortable, and it made my waste look amazingly tiny. The bottom was cream and cascaded down over a hoop, and at the bottom had told trim.
Mickayla's was a light and dark with gold cupped sleeves. And Sara had a pale blue one that went slightly off the shoulder.
I insisted that we walk, considering that it was only a block away. Our dates were all waiting on my porch, waiting for us. I grabbed my shawl and we were all off. We had a slightly difficult time moving around in our dresses, at least when we were Ina tight space, they were bendable at least, or else we would never have gotten out of the house.
"You look stunning." Damon informed me, I felt myself blush. He looked better though, that was for sure. His hair was slightly tousled, and he rocked an 1860 suit.
"You look quite handsome yourself." I grabbed the crook of his arm and we walked down the street. The padding of my cream flats hit the ground daintily as we walked to the front of the line where everyone else was waiting. We began walking and people were crowded on both sides of the street to look at all of us. There were more than a thousand people in line behind us. The roads were closed for everyone to watch.
"You look stunning." he whispered in my ear. I felt myself blush. I smiled back at him and quickly kissed his cheek. We made it to the building and waited for the end of the line to catch up. We were granted permission to go in, and that's when he awkward part of the evening started.
Every single one of them either bowed or curtsied in front of us. Damon leaned over and whispered to me, "I knew I was like a god. It just took them long enough to realize it." I rolled my eyes and if there hadn't been 2000 eyes on us I would have hit his arm, instead I smiled at the next group that appeared in front of us.
When it was over, the first dance started, and of course Damon knew every single one of them, as well as Stefan. I felt special with him guiding me along perfectly, we stared into each others eyes, he made me feel like I was the most beautiful girl on the earth, like we were the only two people in the universe.
We were taking a break from the dozens of dancing we had done and we were sitting with our group, each of us laughing about what was being said. There was a tap on my shoulder and I looked back to see a highly attractive man standing behind me. He had dark hair and roguish looks, he looked like Damon if he were a little younger.
He bowed slightly and held his hand out to me. "May I have this dance?" he smiled ever so slightly, but it was in his eyes. I looked to Damon.
"Do you mind?" I shrugged. He shook his head, but he was tense. I would make sure to be careful about what I said. I looked back to the young man and nodded, placing my glove encased hand in his.
"Thank you." he led me to the floor, and we waited for the waltz to start. My cousin had taught me how to do it, and Damon was fabulous at the dance as well, so I was hoping I wouldn't mess up.
He grabbed my waist and I placed my hand in his. We twirled around the room for a moment, the music eluding around us. "I'm Kaylee by the way." I said after a moment of awkward silence.
"I know." I was puzzled by this. But then it hit me, I was the girl that everyone looked at, they must have figured it out.
"Then it's not fair that you know my name but not yours." I couldn't help but notice that he smelt amazing. I was suddenly really self-conscious.
He flashed me a half smile. "It's Patrick. My date and I arrived late, but I heard you were hostess." I smiled and nodded. "I saw you across the room, and I knew I had to dance with you. You are the most stunning girl I've ever laid my eyes on." I felt the blood rush to my cheeks. It was sweet of him to say, but I couldn't tell if he meant it or not.
"I mean it. And I was wondering, would you like to go out sometime?" I knew that was coming. Now is where I would have to tread carefully.
I took a breath. "Look, Patrick, that's really sweet of you, but we just met, and I have a boyfriend who I'm madly in love with." he stared at me. That might have been to much information, but oh well. "You can't forget your date either. She would probably be very sad." the dance ended. He nodded. I don't think he was used to being rejected. I could see why though. "It was nice meeting you. Have a wonderful rest of your evening." I walked back over to Damon, Sara and Stefan.
"Hey guys." I swooped into my chair, maneuvering carefully. Sitting in hoop skirts took up tons of room.
"You totally rejected him." Sara started laughing quietly. I shrugged.
"What else was I supposed to say? He was way to forward." I laid my head on Damon's shoulder. "Plus, there would be no way in hell that I would give him up."
I felt him kiss my head. "I knew what he was going to do from the beginning, I would have moved on, but who can resist that pouty look!" Everyone laughed, including me. It always went back to the way I get upset.
Sara stood up. "Stefan, come dance with me." she beamed down at him.
"I was going to sit out one more song." he took a breath.
"I'll dance with you." Damon said, coming to her rescue. He stood up and she placed her hand in his. I was left watching them with Stefan, who seemed uncomfortable.
"May I have this dance?" Stefan stood up and asked me. I was slightly surprised and stared at him momentarily. He must have understood what I was thinking. "It's not fair she gets to dance and you don't, so come on."
He pulled me up off of my feet and he spun me around the dance floor. I couldn't help but smile, it was sweet of him.

The rest of the night went by quickly and full of laughter and joy. It ended around midnight, and Damon looped my arm through his.
"Come on Cinderella, we better get going before your dress turns to shreds and your carriage turns into a pumpkin." I couldn't help but giggle. I didn't point out the fact that we walked, but it was cute anyway.
"But there is one difference between Cinderella and I." I informed him as we both walked out into the starlit night.
"And what's that?" he raised a questioning eyebrow.
"She had to wait for her prince charming and I don't." I kissed his cheek.
We walked to his house, all the lights were off and no one was home, which was weird because Sara and Stefan left an hour earlier than we did.
"They went out of town for the night." Damon told me, and I nodded in reply. "That means we have the house all to ourselves." he picked me up bridal style, and I was highly impressed because the hoop got in the way. I couldn't help but laugh at first, and his lips came crashing down on mine, and he took me upstairs. Nothing happened though. Damon went to go change, and he left me for a moment to do the same. I grabbed the clothes I left at his house and I attempted to take off my dress. I couldn't though, because the back was all done up in buttons.
He came in. "Could you help me with this?" he laughed at me. I had at least managed to take my hair down, but that was it.
"I'm always saving the damsels in distress." he whispered in my ear while he slowly undid each button.
"Thank you." I turned around and kissed him when he was done. I then shooed him away so I could finish getting undressed and redressed.

Chapter 12
School went by, and my mother had started seeing a man, he was nice, but every time he came over, it was awkward as heck. It wasn't until Thanksgiving that I realized just how serious they were. The fact that my mom was introducing him to her parents meant that he would be sticking around for a while.
They decided it would be a good idea to have him stay for weekend following the holiday. My grandparents were also coming, and that meant I had to stay in the guest bedroom.
I was lying in bed, staring at the ceiling while everyone else was sleeping. I was exhausted already, and we had only been around each other for a few hours. Damon had called me earlier, telling me that he was coming over around three. I was still in my pajamas with owls on them, and I intended to stay like that. I put my hair up in a ponytail, and went to answer the door.
I flung open the door and leaned against the door frame and smirked. "Hello lover." I did my best to sustain the fits of giggles the threatened to escape.
"Even with your family around?" he smirked. "Naughty." I grabbed his hand and walked him up the stairs.
"Mom, Damon's here." I called from the kitchen. I looked to him. "As a standard thing, do you want anything to eat or drink?"
"No thank you Kaylee, but thanks for asking." he winked at me. We had a routine. I would pretend to ask and he would reply, otherwise I would get scolded for not being a polite hostess.
I led him into the living room where the rest of the family was gathered. They looked up at us, and each smiled. My grandmother was the first to stand up and greet him.
"Damon, it's so wonderful to see you again!" she walked up to him with her arms wide open and they embraced quickly. "I trust you haven't gotten into too much trouble lately?"
"I never get into trouble, just mistakes gone horribly wrong." he smiled. I was standing to the side watching this happen. I was praying she wouldn't say something terribly inappropriate I had forgotten to warn him about that.
"I'll have to remember that. That's clever." she sat down and my grandfather shook hands with him.
"Damon, this is my mom's boyfriend, Gary." Gary wasn't the worst person in the world, he was really sweet and I liked him. He was a short, round man, with hardly any hair left on his head, but he had tan skin and a nice smile.
"Gary, this is my boyfriend, Damon." they shook hands and exchange smiles. I led Damon over to the cream colored live seat and sat down.
"Kaylee, why don't you go get dressed, it's almost time to eat." my mother gave me the look. I didn't see what was so important about getting dressed for a holiday that involves eating. I sighed and stood up and walked down to my room. I found a deep red sweater, black dress pants, and my favorite heels. They were black with a red bow across the top. I shoved a headband in my hair and went back out to see them.
"Don't worry darling, I'm back to save you." I jumped into his arms and draped myself over his lap. I caught a glare from my grandmother. I managed to laugh at her, I knew I was going to get yelled at later for it, it was worth it though.
"We were actually having a nice conversation. About you." he winked at me, I hoped that meant he would tell me later.
My grandmother chimed up. "Since when have you started calling him darling?" I sighed mentally. I didn't see why she needed to know, or why she cared.
I shrugged. "A while. Why does it matter?" I gave her a puzzled look.
"Just curious. The last time I heard about him, you were telling me how he wasn't 'into you’, and how you didn't like him.” she took a breath. "But I do remember you calling him an ass. But you said he was highly attractive." Thank you, my wonderful grandmother. I hope she knows just how much I appreciate her.
"I'm a hot ass?" Damon looked at me and smiled. He shrugged. "I can live with that." I pushed myself up off of him and leaned against the arm of the chair, but kept my legs on him. I felt him place his cool hands on my calves to comfort him.
"Thanks Grams that was supposed to be private." she laughed at what I said hysterically, and not in a good way, it was actually quite evil.
"Let's eat." my mom called from the dining room. We sat in the blue room around the round table.
"If you don't want to eat, I'm not going to force you." I smiled.
"No, then I'd be the weirdo that didn't eat." he joked to me in a hushed tone.
"Oh, I see. Instead you’ll just be a weirdo with a healthy appetite.” He glared at me with his ice blue eyes. I smiled coyly in return.
I heard my grandmother from the other side of the table clear her throat. “Now, you to behave over there. You should be happy that we’re letting you eat at the grown-up table.” I rolled my eyes and we started eating.
Within the first bite, Damon started coughing violently. “What the hell?” I exclaimed. I knew then that there was vervain in whatever he had eaten. He doubled over and fell to the hard wood floor. I bent down to cradle his head. Everyone was just staring at him and I, just watching the scene unfold.
“Kaylee, step back from him. He’s very dangerous.” My mother informed me. She tried to grab my hand and I pushed her away. I shoved away the rest of the family that tried to get to me.
“Kaylee, listen to your mother, she knows what she’s talking about.” My grandmother stepped in; she was kneeling next to me as I was still holding a coughing Damon. I shook my head violently at her.
“No she doesn’t.” she started to talk again. “NO SHE DOESN’T!” I yelled at the family that was gathered around me. They watched me start to break down. I couldn’t figure out how they knew, and I didn’t want to know.
“She doesn’t understand.” My grandmother leaded over to whisper in my mom’s ear. I stood up, I was fuming with rage. I looked straight at them.
“I understand. Yes, I know fully well that he is a vampire, it’s been over a year, and I haven’t died yet. I’m fine. It’s all of you that don’t understand.” I glared for a moment. “He doesn’t hurt people. He’s kind and gentle. It’s all of you that are the monsters.” I blinked away the tears from my eyes.
Damon was slowly getting better from behind me. I hadn’t eaten anything or had anything to drink from before, and I knew that my blood would help him. I bent down to him, and grabbed the closest knife off of the table above us. I held his head, and cut across my wrist. He knew what I was getting at, and he took it, and drank my blood.
I knew they were staring at me from behind, with shocked looks on their faces. He released my wrist and stood up. I went to the bathroom, and wrapped it in a bandage. I walked back out, and there was no one there, except for Gary.
I looked at him for a moment. “They went to the store. They’ll be back tomorrow.” I smiled and nodded. I took my keys, and went outside to the car, and went across and up the hill to Damon’s house, where I knew he had gone.
I walked in, and waited for some sort of sound to come from anywhere in the house. There was some shuffling by the door that led to their basement, I walked over and peaked down into it. They were all in the strange little cell that was in the corner. Damon locked the door and turned around to greet me.
He smiled slightly. “You didn’t need to do this.” I informed him. “They weren’t going to do anything.” I stood next to him and stared at my family.
“So, I suppose you would have been perfectly fine with me dying?” he was angry. His eyes were cold and evil. I hated it when he turned that way.
“That’s not what I meant and you know it.” I took a step away from him. “These people are my family Damon; you can’t just lock them up.” I walked back up the stairs and stormed up to the car and went back home. Damon was in my living room even before I was. I walked right past him, and headed to my room.
He was there too. How I missed him zipping past me, I still don’t know. “Damon! I don’t want to talk to you right now.” I yelled. He grabbed my shoulders. “Damon!” I screamed out in a sob. Tears started flowing from my eyes. All I wanted was a normal family Thanksgiving, and then my family had to ruin it. I collapsed into him.
“They can come out tomorrow, I’ve removed all pieces of jewelry containing vervain from them, and tomorrow it should be gone from their blood. I can compel them and then everything can go back to normal.” He brushed my hair and tried to soothe my sobs.
“How did they know?” I whispered.
“They told me someone informed them to try putting vervain in the food, and see if I reacted. There’s someone that wants me gone.” I nodded. “But I think we both know that I’m way to awesome for that to happen.”
The night passed, and a five the next evening, I went with Damon to his house. He went to compel them, and they came back up, completely fine.
“What a lovely evening, thank you so much for having us Damon.” My mother thanked him. I tried not to laugh.
So that was it, everything was normal again, except for the person that told my family about Damon… that was a whole new thing, that we would have to deal with very quickly before it got out of hand and something even worse happened.
