Make Me Better

Chapter 23

It shocked me at how comfortable I was around Frank. With other boyfriend, I had always had that stage where I wasn't very comfortable with them. It took my a while to actually feel comfortable, it was the total opposite with Frank. It just felt right, like we were meant to be together. I know, cheesy. I still couldn't get over the fact that Frank actually liked me. I found myself doubting it once in a while.

It had been a month since Frank's birthday, things were going smooth. Nothing had really changed between us. Except we made out a lot. Other than that we acted like before, just friends. Which was comforting, I liked that nothing had changed. I guess that was why we had been so comfortable around each other.

"Alright, get out." My English teacher laughed, we were going on a mini vacation since it was almost Thanksgiving. I packed up my things and walked out of class. I spotted Jenna, I saw Jenna a lot, actually. I did my best to ignore her. When I passed her in the hall, she would give my dirty looks. I didn't show it but I felt pretty bad. Frank was her boyfriend and if it wasn't for me, she would probably still be with Frank.

"Hey." Frank said, a huge sincere smile plastered on his face.

I couldn't but smile back, "Hi."
We walked out to the parking lot, hand in hand. "Jenna is glaring at you." Frank said quietly, as we passed her, while going down the front steps.

"Nothing new, she always does." I whispered back, "I can't help but feel a bit guilty, I mean she was your girlfriend...."

"You should really stop thinking that way, it's over with, Oli. Stop worrying about it."

"I'm sort of a home wrecker."

Frank laughed, "But I liked you too, what does that make me?" I thought for second, trying to come up with something funny.
I shrugged, "I don't know, a douche?
Frank glared at me playfully before he went to the driver's side and unlocked his car. I hurried to the other side since it was a bit chilly and I wasn't wearing a jacket.

"You won't do that to me, right?" I asked, slowly, since I felt a bit weird with asking such a question.

"Do what?" He raised an eyebrow.

"What you did to Jenna, if you like someone else you'll just tell me and break up then, right?"

"Oli, I don't even think about anyone else. You have nothing to worry about." He reached his hand over to grasp my cold one in his warm one. I smiled and nodded.

"Ok."

"You won't fall in love with Mikey, right?"

"No, Mikey isn't my type. You do have to worry about Ray, though." I smiled. Frank shook his head and started the car. The car ride was like every other car ride. Frank blasted Black Flag and sand aloud loudly.

"I'll see you." I kissed Frank's cheek quickly, "Thanks for the ride."

"Anytime." He pulled me closer, his lips lingered over mine. His breath was hot and I couldn't help but lean in and close the gap between us. This was common. We always made out before he dropped me off. Things would get a bit steamy but we would stop before anything else could happen.

"Ok, bye." Frank kissed my forehead and smile down at me. I opened the car door and walked into the house quickly. My dad was already home, which made me bit nervous. I wondered if he had seen me out front making out with Frank. I didn't tell him I was dating Frank, just because I didn't know how and I knew he wouldn't be too pleased. I knew that after dating Cooke he wasn't very keen on the idea of me having boyfriends.

"Hey, kiddo." He came over to ruffle my hair, I moved away from him with a smile as I tried to get him to stop messing up my hair.

"Hi, dad. Got off work early, huh?" I asked, I set my backpack on the floor and walked into the kitchen to look for food. That was one thing I missed about my mom, she cooked a lot. So, without her, Dad and I had to fend for ourselves. I didn't know how to cook and Dad wasn't very good at it. I was a bit worried about her, I haven't seen her since the day she came and got her things. She didn't call, not that I wanted to talk to her but it would be nice just to know that she was ok.

"I made grilled cheese." Dad pushed the plate towards me. I nodded and grabbed the plate. Things at home were getting normal again. It wasn't awkward. I had been avoiding my dad since he had been moping around, and I didn't want to get sucked into the moping. He seemed to be getting better.

"What are we doing for Thanksgiving?" I asked, looking up at him. He shrugged, my dad was still a bit distant. He didn't really talk to me.

"I have no clue, usually your mother did..." He trailed off, I knew he was avoiding looking at me. I frowned, "Dad."

"What?"

"We don't have to do anything. We can sit here and watch football." I smiled. He laughed, "I like football."

"I know, we'll order pizza, drink some beers-"

"You aren't drinking, Olive." He said in warning tone. I laughed, "Please!"

"Ok, one beer."

"Yes!" I stood up and gave him a hug. "I have to get started on homework now, thanks for the grilled cheese."

"Ok, honey." He smiled, it wasn't a sincere smile. He looked sad. I tried to ignore it as I walked away from him and walked into my room. I started on a paper that was due when we got back to school. I wanted things to go back to normal, completely. I was just starting to get happy, I had Frank but then I had to deal with the aftermath of my mother leaving.

She ruined everything.
