The Devil's Pawn

Ch. 14

The hallway was empty. Sun flooded in from the windows as it set, shadows bouncing off of objects. I took my time walking down, my footsteps echoing in the silence of the building. I clutched my books tightly to my chest.

A dark figure leaned against my locker. The sunlight outlined him, giving him a
mysterious look to him. His back was propped against the lockers, one foot bent and
pressed against. His arms crossed over his chest. His head seemed to look my way.

As I walked closer, my eyes made out Trenton’s figure, his infamous smirk across his
lips. His eyes followed me as I walked around him, opening my locker next to him.

He pushed himself off, standing right up. Trenton braced one hand against the wall of
lockers, watching as I set my books in my own, closing it shut.

Neither of us spoke. I closed my locker, looking up at him. He moved, standing before
me. Trenton rested his hands on my hips, moving in closer.

“Why did you wait for me?” I asked softly, my voice breaking through the silence. Trenton
only smirked, pressing me against the wall, his body against mine. I rested my hands on his
chest, having nowhere else to put them.

“Photography club?” He mocked.

I bit my lip, “I didn’t know what else to say…”

He chuckled, “You look fucking sexy when you bite your lip like that.”

I flushed, feeling self conscious.

Trenton pushed me up against the wall more. “I like it.”

“Oh.” I breathed, my heart beat speeding up.

His fingers trailed up my leg. He slowly lifted it up, hooking around his waist. The
movement pressed my lower half against his. I could feel his hard pressing against me. I
gasped slightly.

Trenton kept his hand on my leg, moving it up. He slipped underneath my skirt, his
fingers brushing my panties line. His cupped my ass, giving me a small squeeze.

“Trenton.” I breathed as his other hand wrapped around my waist, pulling my chest
against him.

“I love the way you say my name.” He whispered seductively.

I felt his lips at my neck, pressing down. He moved his hips against mine to an
inaudible beat. I moved with him as he sucked on my neck.

He bit down roughly.

I gasped, closing my eyes. My head fell back, hair falling over my shoulder, “Oh my
freaking… Trenton.”

He chuckled, his voice echoing in the hallway.

“We’ll get caught.” I said as his hand squeezed my butt tightly.

He chuckled again, “All the more fun.”

“Oh God.” I moaned found my sweet spot, sucking. His finger hooked around the edge
of my panties, pulling it down. “Trenton.”

“Louder.” He growled against my neck.

“Trenton.” I breathed, my hands running up his chest.

“Louder.” He said, his voice sounding out of breath.

My fingers tightened, gripping part of his shirt. “Trenton.” It echoed down the hallway.

Trenton tugged my panties so that it was entirely off on one side. His fingers trailed
around my hip, coming dangerously close.

He moved his head from my neck, a shadow covering his eyes. His smirk was evident
on his face as he looked me in the eyes. “Ready?”

“Yes.” I whispered.

He shoved his finger inside of me.

I woke up with a start.

“You ok, Taylor?” Erica asked the next morning as we walked out from the bathroom. I
handed Erica her eyeliner back, mumbling a thanks.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” I said, trying to force my voice to sound normal.

“You seem distracted.”

“I just… I just had a weird dream, that’s all.”

“Want to explain?”

I shook my head, “I… I don’t really remember it. Just a weird feeling when I woke up that
lingers with me.”

“Oh.”

I couldn’t tell if she bought the lie.

A body intercepted us. He slung an arm over my shoulders, pulling me against him. Out
of the corner of my eye, I could see he did the same to Erica. She made a face, pulling away.

“Hello ladies” Fits grinned.

“Let go, Fits.” Erica groaned, ducking out from under his arm. Fits tightened his grip on
me, laughing.

“I’m keeping you at my side, Tay.”

“No thanks, Fits.” I laughed, pulling his arm off my shoulders. Fits pouted slightly. I
rolled my eyes, giggling.

“Where’s your other half?” I asked.

“Tanner or Trenton?”

“Both.”

“Ditched. It’s just you and me ladies.”

I frowned, “Didn’t you guys just ditch recently? Aren’t you worried about what’s going to
happen when you get caught?”

“Tanner’s sick.” Erica rolled her eyes, lightly slapping the back of Fits’ head. “Trenton’s
taking the morning off. He’s probably going to come in at lunch with a forged doctor’s note or
something. The kid isn’t stupid; he knows he can’t ditch this often.”

“Since when does Tanner get sick?”

“He probably called himself in. He’s probably with that Sophie chick or whatever her
name is.” Erica mumbled.

“Who’s Sophie?” I asked

“You mean Sam?” Fits chuckled at the mix up of names. Erica rolled her eyes,
confirming his question.

“Who’s Sam?”

“Tanner’s ex girlfriend.” Erica muttered.

I frowned, “But—”

“They had a pretty big history.” Fits explained “Even though they’re broken up, they’ll still
occasionally hang out for a quickie in the back seat or something.”

“I don’t approve.” Erica said.

“No one needs your input, Erica.”

“Whatever, I’m just putting this out there.”

“Well keep it in.”

I rolled my eyes at their bickering. Sometimes they acted like a couple, other times they
acted as if they were four year olds fighting over the sandbox.

“Come on, guys.” I sighed, walking to my locker. Erica shot Fits a look before following
after. He walked over shortly after.

I was glad that I wouldn’t have to see Trenton for at least the morning. After the dream I
had about him, I wasn’t sure if I ever wanted to face him again. I knew it was ridiculous; he
didn’t know about my little dream. Yet, I felt as if one look at my face and everything would be
revealed.

That was one thing I never wanted him to find out.

Trenton didn’t show up for the morning, just as Erica predicted. It didn’t make much of a
difference for me though, since I saw him in the afternoon more than the morning. Either
way, the feeling of anticipation for his arrival stirred in my stomach through-out my entire
morning. I was nervous. Would I blurt something unwanted out? Or everything be as it
usually was before this dream happened?

I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts.

I simply had to act like nothing ever happened. He wouldn’t know, Erica wouldn’t know,
Tanner and Fits wouldn’t know.

Only I did.

Erica and I were standing in line to get food. I grabbed a plastic plate, filing it up with
ingredients for my salad. Erica stood next to me, studying her nails, bored. She still had Fits
to buy her lunch for her. I appreciated that she would come with me to get food though.

We walked to the cash register. I paid quickly, following Erica back to the table. She took
a seat at her normal spot across from me, leaving room for the other two. I sat on the edge,
wondering if I would be the only one on this side today or not.

Erica took a carrot off my plate, her eyes focused on the phone in her hands. I rolled my
eyes, poking at my food with my fork.

“Hey cutie.” A pair of arms slipped around my waist, causing me to jump. I felt a chin
resting on my shoulder, a warm body pressed against me.

Erica’s eyes flickered up impassively.

Trenton pulled his arms off my waist, taking a seat next to me at the table. He took my
fork out of my hand, eating the lettuce off of it. I shot him a look, letting him keep it.

My heart beat sped up at the sight of him. The memory of the dream flooded my mind
again, and it took all my restraint not to blush and run away. I bit my lip, forcing myself to
stare at Erica’s fingers as she typed on her phone.

“Where is that stupid fucker?” She mumbled, looking around for Fits.

Trenton shrugged, pulling my plate over to him. “Hell if I know.”

I stayed silent.

Trenton’s hand found its way on my leg. He left it there, his thumb gently rubbing the
outside casually. I played it off as if it wasn’t there.

“Erica, are you sure you don’t want to go get your own food?” I asked, frowning.

She shook her head, “Fits owes me food. I’m not going to buy my own food if I got
someone doing that for me.”

Her eyes lit up. I glanced behind me to see Fits with two trays in his hands, walking this
way. He grinned his boyish grin, setting one of the trays in front of Erica.

“Thank you, Fits.” Erica smiled, taking a bite of her pizza.

He rolled his eyes, nudging her with his elbow. “Whatever.”

It was silent as the three of them ate. Trenton divided my food in half, pushing some
towards me. I ignored it, content with the amount that I had eaten before he arrived. The
butterflies in my stomach were against forcing food into it with Trenton right there. I kept my
eyes away from him, hoping to eradicate the dream from memory.

“So what are we doing this Friday?” Fits asked.

Trenton shrugged, “Don’t care. Just can’t get into legal shit.”

“What’s Friday?” I asked.

Trenton’s hand squeezed my leg before he pulled it away. He tilted the salad plate at an
angle so that the dressing fell into the bottom corner. Trenton poked at the lettuce, dunking it
into the newly formed dressing pool.

“Friday’s our night.” Erica explained. “We just hang out then.”

I blinked, “Oh.”

“And that includes you now.”

Sam.

“I can’t this Friday.” I stammered out nervously.

Erica raised an eyebrow daringly. Fits looked up from his food, frowning slightly in
confusion. Neither of them knew about my date with Sam Friday, and I intended to keep it
that way. Trenton chuckled next to me. I bumped my knee against his warningly.

“How come?” Fits asked.

“Busy.” I kept my answers short and simple.

He glanced at Trenton curiously.

“She’s not.” Trenton said. I turned to him, eyes wide. He was aware that I had plans with
Sam on Friday. I wasn’t about to leave her to hang out with four delinquents.

“Yes I do.” I said, my voice harsh.

Trenton held my gaze, “Nope. Not anymore. You can tell whoever you had plans with that
it’s now on Saturday.”

“Trenton, you know I can’t…”

He smirked, “You’re going to. I could of course, but I think it would be more sincere if it
came from you.”

I shot him a look before turning back to Erica with an apologetic face, “I’m sorry, Erica,
but I really can’t go Friday.”

“She can.”

“I can’t, Trenton.”

“You’re going.”

“You can’t force me!”

“Watch me.” Trenton reached a hand up, holding it over my mouth. My eyes widened in
shock as my response was cut off. I crossed my arms, glaring at him.

Trenton grinned, “Much better.”

“So back to more important matters…” Fits said. I shot him a look of annoyance at the
insult. He winked and continued, “What are we doing Friday?”

Trenton’s eyes flickered to me before he spoke, a smirk across his lips, “Movies?”

I pulled his hand away from my mouth. “You’re a jerk.”

Erica frowned, her eyes flickering between us, “What’s up with you two today? You’re almost
as bad as me and Fits.”

Trenton shrugged, “Someone’s just in a bad mood today.”

I rolled my eyes.

“So movies it is.” Fits mumbled. “Which one?”

“We can figure that once we get there.” Erica said, sounding bored. “We’ll meet up
around five-ish then?”

“Awesome.”

The bell rang.

I stood up, dropping my plastic plate into the recycling bin by the doors. I waved good
bye to Fits and Erica, walking to my next class. Trenton appeared at my side.

“You’re such a jerk, Trenton.” I mumbled, holding my books to my chest. I was angry
with him. I didn’t like how he ignored the fact that I had plans with Sam on Friday. It was rude
and quite frankly, infuriating.

Trenton laughed, playing off my anger. “Relax, Sweet Cheeks. I’ll make sure you have a
good time at the movies.”

I made a face of disgust, catching his innuendo “Uh… no thank you.”

“Offer’s always open.”

“Answer’s always no.”

Trenton rolled his eyes.

We reached my room. I glanced at him awkwardly, opening my mouth to say good bye
when he grabbed my elbow, pulling me back. Trenton leaned against one of the lockers near the door, looking at me apologetically.

“I’m sorry I’m forcing you to cancel your plans with Sam.” His words sounded sincere,
but his eyes held amusement in them.

“No you’re not.”

“You’re right.”

I rolled my eyes, “Whatever Trenton. I’ll see you in Spanish…”

“Seriously, Tay, the five of us are going to the movies on Friday.”

“Like my mom’s going to let me go to the movies with you.” I said sarcastically, “I’ve got
a better chance with Sam.”

He smirked, “Let me handle this.”
