The Devil's Pawn

Ch. 9

A few hours had passed and I wasn’t enjoying myself in the slightest. I sat on the couch, arms crossed, looking annoyed for most of the time. The volume of the music had gone up considerably in the first hour and only continued to rise.

They had cracked open multiple bottles of alcohol, downing every last one of them.
Trenton kept anyone from giving me one, but would occasionally offer me a sip of his.

At one point, Trenton decided to sit down next to me, pulling my legs across his lap. My
face flushed dramatically as I attempted to pull them back. He kept a hand on my shin,
holding them there with a smirk across his lips.

I glanced at the clock on the wall, surprised to see it was nearly 8 in the evening.

I nudged Trenton with my leg. He shot me a smile, but returned his attention back to the
other drunks next to him.

I nudged him again, this time harder.

“What, Tay?” He asked harshly

“Can we leave soon?” I asked softly, surprised by his tone.

His eyes flickered back to the others in the room before returning to me. Trenton pushed
my legs off his lap, standing up. He held out a hand for me, which I gladly accepted.

Trenton gave a rough tug, causing me to stumble up into his body. He kept an arm
around my waist, holding me to his side.

“Alright guys, we’re heading out.” He said, saluting everyone.

Erica frowned, “Already?”

“Gotta get the kid to bed.” He smirked, patting my stomach with the arm around my
waist. I shot him a look, pulling away.

Tanner groaned, “How are we going to get home now?”

“Just stay the night, I’ll pick you up in the morning.”

“Bullshit.”

Trenton rolled his eyes, “Whatever. We’re leaving.”

I followed him out the door, not surprised that he had remained in his grumpy mood all
evening. Trenton hesitated at the door, looking down at me curiously.

“Wait one second.” He instructed before running off into the kitchen. I stood there
awkwardly, running a hand through my hair. I tugged the skirt down, wrapping my arms
around my waist.

Trenton returned a minute later with two of the unlabeled cans. He smirked, holding the
door open for me.

I stopped in front of the driver’s side, holding out my hand for the keys. “Hand them over,
please.”

Trenton raised an eyebrow, amused, “Hand what over?”

“The keys. You’re not driving.”

“Au contraire” He said, trying to move past me. I leaned against the car door, crossing
my arms. I kept my hand out, waiting patiently.

“Look, I know how much you’ve been drinking tonight. There’s no way you’re going to
drive in this condition.”

He snorted, “Please, I’m perfectly fine. Just barely buzzed. I’m more than capable of
driving us home.”

“Trenton.” I snapped.

He laughed, “I can’t wait to hear you scream my name that way.”

I felt my face heat up, “Alright, knock it off. Just give me the keys so I can drive us home.
This is getting a little bit ridiculous.”

He pressed a hand on either side of my face, leaning in gently. I pressed my body
against the back of the car, trying to create as much space between us as I could. Trenton
chuckled, shaking his head so that his hair fell away from his eyes.

“Could you… ah… take a step back?” I asked hopefully.

Trenton raised the corner of his mouth in a half smile. “Why?”

“I….” I trailed off, embarrassed to say that he intimidated me in the close proximity.

Trenton’s eyes flickered down to my body for a moment before returning to meet my
eyes. “Why should I move, Sweet Cheeks?”

“I need my space.” I mumbled, looking away from his eyes. Trenton chuckled,
straightening his body. He dropped his hands, taking a step back. Mockingly, Trenton
opened the driver’s door for me, motioning for me to enter.

“Thanks.” I mumbled, as he closed the door. Trenton walked around to the other side,
climbing in the passenger seat. He tossed me the keys. I grabbed for them, but missed. The
keys fell into the front of my shirt, the cold metal causing me to gasp.

I reached in, pulling them out quickly.

Trenton laughed, rolling his eyes. “Perfect shot.”

I ignored his comment, turning the car on. Trenton reclined the seat so that he was
almost parallel with the floor of the car. He threw an arm over his eyes, propping his feet on
the dash board.

“Trenton…” I said hesitantly. “I don’t know how to get home.”

He groaned, “Go down the road, turn left and you’re on the highway. I assume you can
get home from there?”

I bit my lip, “I’ll try.”

“Then go ahead.” He said.

I sighed, pulling out of the driveway we were in. I could hear the faint sound of the bass
thud as I drove out; glad to be away from that strange party.

“Finally.” Trenton mumbled as I pulled into our neighborhood. I pulled into his driveway,
glancing at my house in the rearview mirror. The lights were off, car gone, which meant my
mother and father had probably gone out for the evening. They didn’t go out often, so it was
always a relief when they did.

I bit my lip, glancing over at him. He pulled the chair back up, hand on the door.

“Wait…” I said

“What?”

“I can’t go back to my house when I told my parents I was staying at a friend’s.” Surely
he wasn’t that daft to have me go back there.

“What’s your point?”

“What do I do?”

He frowned, “I thought I already said you’re just crashing at my place.”

My eyes widened, “I-I thought you were kidding!”

“Why would I be kidding?” He laughed, getting out of the car.

I bit my lip, my heart beating furiously in my chest. He… he was serious. I opened the
door, walking to hood. Trenton stood on the other side, waiting for me to close my door.

“Are you being entirely serious?” I asked, hoping for the answer I knew I wouldn’t get.

Trenton nodded, much to my despair. “Relax; I’m not going to rape you or anything…
probably.”

“W-what?!”

“I was kidding. Let’s go.” He laughed, heading to the door. I glanced back at my house,
weighing my options.

I could go home and sleep in my own bed. But Mom would get suspicious and demand
an answer. Could I fabricate a story believable enough to pass for truth while also avoiding
any punishment? I didn’t think I could.

Or I could sleep at Trenton’s and simply pretend I had stayed with someone more
responsible and respectable. Granted, Mother didn’t know Erica very well, but did that really
matter? As long as I never let it slip that I had stayed at a boy’s—one she didn’t like at all—
house over night instead of a girl, I was fine.

Trenton flicked on the porch light, leaning against the door frame. The front door was
open, waiting for us.

“Are you coming or not?” He asked impatiently.

I glanced back at my house before scurrying off to the door. Trenton held the door for
me, closing it behind us.

“Come on.” He said, grabbing my hand and leading the way upstairs.

“Is your dad here?” I asked softly, staying close to Trenton as we climbed the stairs. He
didn’t turn on the lights, leaving me blind.

“Yeah, his room is in the basement.” He said.

I frowned, “Don’t you guys have enough rooms upstairs?”

“We do.”

“Then why can’t he…?”

“He likes the basement.” Trenton snapped, getting defensive. He led us down the
hallway and into a room, which I presumed to be his. A thought crossed my mind that they
might have had a guest room I could stay in.

Trenton flicked on the light. I squinted my eyes, raising a hand to protect my sensitive
eyes for a moment.

He kept walking, falling backwards onto his bed. I stood by the door awkwardly, unsure
what to do. I was still in the tank top and skirt that Erica had loaned me. I didn’t want to sleep
in them.

“Uh…” I said, trying to get his attention.

Trenton propped himself up on his elbows, looking at me. “What?”

“I uh…”

His eyes scanned my body before a light bulb clicked. “Oh, you need clothes.”

I felt my cheeks heat up, “Kind of…”

Trenton forced himself off the bed, heading over to his closet. I took the time, my eyes
scanning around his room.

He had a typical boy room. Three provocative posters covered the wall opposite the bed.
A desk was pushed against that wall, an old computer monitor sitting on top. A bean bag
chair sat in the corner, near the sole window in his room. Trenton’s bed was unmade and
messy. Various articles of clothing scattered the ground along with a soccer ball leaning up
against the post of the bed.

I poked the ball with my foot, kicking it around slightly.

“Here.” Trenton said. I looked up just in time to have a shirt tossed at my head. I pulled it
off of my face, examining it. It was a large, white t-shirt with a famous beer company’s logo
written in fancy script across the front.

I looked up at him, waiting for something to wear on the bottom of my body.

“I don’t have any shorts that will fit you. Trust me, Sweet Cheeks, we have two very
different waist sizes.” He chuckled, pulling his shirt over his head.

My eyes widened. I looked away, blushing. “Er…”

Trenton laughed, “What? Not used to half naked guys?”

“Not really…”

“Tough luck.” He said, stepping out of his sneakers. Trenton pulled his pants down,
standing in plaid blue and white boxers.

I looked away. “Can you, uh, show me where the bathroom is?”

“It’s the door right across from here.”

“Thanks.” I quickly hurried out of the room, clutching the large t-shirt in my hands. I
turned the light on in the bathroom, closing the door quickly.

My heart was beating furiously. Maybe I should’ve just gone over to my house. I can’t
believe he just stripped in front of me!

I ran a hand through my curls, rubbing my eyes. Glancing in the mirror, I frowned at my
appearance. I had entirely forgotten I was wearing the eyeliner Erica forced on me. It was
smeared around my eyes.

I grabbed a tissue, wetting and wiping it all off.

I slipped out of the tank top, pulling Trenton’s shirt over top. Surprisingly, it was fairly
decent with keeping everything hidden. It fell just above mid-thigh, longer than the skirt had
been. I could do this. I pulled the skirt down, collecting my clothes in my hand.

“I’m digging this outfit.” Trenton smirked when I re-entered his bedroom. I looked away,
holding back a smile.

“Where am I sleeping?”

“The bed?” He asked, glancing at it.

I set my clothes on the ground, walking quietly over to the bed next to him. I sat down
cautiously, keeping my eyes on him. I slipped my feet under his covers, pulling them up to
my thighs. I sat upright, watching Trenton.

“Where are you sleeping?” I asked curiously.

Trenton smirked before launching himself on the bed. I let out a small shriek in
surprise. Trenton clamped his hand over my mouth, pulling me against him. He laughed,
rolling so that I was on top of him. My back was against his chest, his arm around my waist,
hand covering my mouth.

“Next to you.” He answered.

I struggled out of his grip, rolling away. Trenton rolled on his side, facing me with a
smirk across his lips.

“No you are not!” I hissed, swinging my legs over the side of the bed. Trenton reached
over and grabbed my waist, keeping me on the bed.

“Yeah, I am.” He chuckled, pulling me back.

“This—this is wrong!” I fidgeted uncomfortably.

“How? We’re not doing anything… inappropriate.” He whispered in my ear. “Yet.”

“There will be no ‘yet’!” I hissed, rolling around to face him. I sat up, keeping my legs
closed so that he didn’t get a glimpse of anything. “Look, I’ll sleep on the couch, it’s no big
deal. I just don’t think we should share a bed.”

“And why not?” He asked, laying on his back.

“It’s… it’s not something we should be doing!”

“We’re not having sex, Tay, just relax. I mean, if you want to that’s totally cool…” He
shrugged.

“I do not want to have intercourse with you, Trenton.”

“Well you can’t sleep downstairs.” He laughed.

“And why not?”

“My dad doesn’t know you’re here.”

My eyes widened, “What?!”

Trenton pressed a finger against my lips. “Shh. He’ll hear you.”

“I can’t stay here!” I groaned, “You’re dad wouldn’t want me to be here! When he finds
out, we’re both going to be in so much trouble.”

“He doesn’t care if I have girls over or not, so long as we’re quiet.” Trenton winked. I
made a face, disgusted. “But in all honesty, he won’t find out. Dad has to get up at midnight
to go to work until noon the next day. He’s not going to come in and check on me like I’m
three.”

“But what if…”

“There’s no ‘what if’s, Sweet Cheeks.” Trenton grinned. He patted the empty space next
to him. “Now, lay down before I make you.”

I bit my lip, glancing at the door. “Promise you won’t trying anything?”

“I’ll leave you alone for the rest of the night.”

“Promise?”

Trenton rolled his eyes, “Promise.”

I cautiously laid my body down next to his. I was on my side facing him. He moved to his
back, closing his eyes. I pulled the covers over our bodies, closing my eyes too.

The last thing I felt was Trenton’s hand gently squeezing my butt.

I flicked his temple.
