Chapter 07 - Kobra Kid

They took her. One minute the girl was smiling and laughing along with us, the next Gerard, Frank, Ray, and I were lying on the ground watching as the weird looking bald guy took the poor girl away. Sure, we only knew the girl for a week, but a week was long enough to realize that she didn’t deserve anything bad. She was, like, ten years old.

And the warning the man gave us when he left, “Keep running.” Still makes me shudder with fear.

Revenge looked over to me and gave me an apologetic smile. I couldn’t help but feel relieved that she hadn’t come along. Who knows what would’ve happened to her?

She walked over to me and hugged me, “I’m sorry Kobra. I’m sure you did everything you could.” She whispered in my ear. She stepped back and gave me another smile, and then joined Psycho on the other side of the room; the two of them were inseparable.

I looked over at Gerard, who was still fuming about the girl, then at Frank, who was sitting on the floor, knees to his chest, rocking back and forth, and then I looked around for Ray. The four of us had always dealt with tragic things differently, Gerard got angry, I got quieter than usual (if that’s even possible), Frankie freaked out, and Ray just…disappeared

“Well?” Psycho said from their corner, and we all looked at her. Well, all but Frankie

“Well what?” Gerard snapped, and I sent him a glare. It’s not her fault the girl got taken. If anything it’s his. Well, ours

“Are we just going to sit around? I mean, they just took her, right? It’s not like she’s…” and then she stopped. She didn’t have to go on; we knew what she was going to say

“Yea! Why are we just standing around?! We have to do something!” Gerard shouted, looking around eagerly, suddenly Frank stopped rocking and stood up

“We can’t, Poison,” He said getting a hiss from Gerard that confused all of us, “They’d honestly be expecting that. It has to be at least a bit of a surprise.”

“Fuck surprises! That little girl’s life is in danger! We can’t just sit around!” Gerard was screaming now. He punched a wall, then got really, really calm. I saw Psycho send Revenge an angry glance

“Poison, I know it is but-” Frank started

“Guys!” We heard from the garage, “Come here, please!”

Gerard ran to the garage, the rest of us following him, not as quickly. We stepped into the garage and saw Ray leaning against the dented car. Good thing we spent so long fixing it up

“What’s up, Jet?” Gerard asked, and Ray frowned

“I was thinking.” Uh-oh. “What if something happens to the girl? You know, something that we could obviously prevent.” Gerard looked at me and I knew why. I shook my head, slightly, and he nodded, and then looked back to Ray

“Yea, I’ve been thinking about that, too. The guys want to wait a little while longer, though.” There he goes again, assuming that I’m siding with Frank. He’s right, of course. I’ve always sided with Frankie, because he was usually right

“But, why?” Ray questioned, looking at me, and I shrugged. He frowned again and sighed. “I just don’t want her to get hurt, you know?”

“Jet Star, we’re working on it. We can’t just leave now, because if we do they’ll know we’re on our way,” Revenge said from behind me, “I mean, we don’t want to be that predictable, right?” She finished with a laugh

Frank and I nodded in agreement, and that was the end of that discussion

Well, for now at least. Gerard would definitely find a way to get back on that topic as soon as possible.
