‹ Prequel: Forever You Remain

His Ring

forests of the night

Fields had turned into trees the farther north that she went. None of it was her world, but it all seemed vaguely familiar as if from a dream. The sun had begun to set on the second day casting vibrant oranges, yellows, and purples onto the bus as people settled in for a night of sleep.

Let them sleep.

She was in a world all alone with her thoughts. All alone, all important thoughts. Subconsciously, she was twisting the ring around her finger creating a narrow groove just above the joint. The words had long since faded away in their echoing but she was still dwelling on them.

He had loved her.

So why had he died?

It sounded childish, but it wasn't fair. It really wasn't fair. She wanted him back. He belonged to her. They had had no right to take him away as they did. A tear slipped down her cheek only to be dashed away, it's remains thrown against the window of the bus.

Ten hours until the next stop.

Ten more hours of thoughts consuming her mind.

Ten more hours alone in the world.

She wanted Jacob back.
