Got Me In A Trance

3/25/11

Jimmy’s POV

We had finally all the way out to Maddie’s house in the middle of the fucking forest, literally. The bus pulled up outside her house and I noticed something, the only visible door to the house was on the floor on a balcony. It was like a giant tree house, that seems the best way to describe it to you.

“Um, how do we actually get into your house?”

“Yeah, about that, I don’t have new guests very often normally it’s the same couple guys and they know how to get up. I’ll let down the ladder for you.” She said doing some parkour ninja moves and climbing up.

Almost like a tree house she dropped a wood and rope ladder and we all climbed up and walked in through the grand glass double doors. The house was way bigger than it looked and was gorgeously decorated.

“So, why do you need to exert that much energy to get into your house?”

“Because I like my house to be like a jungle gym.” She walked further into the massive foyer and started to yell. “Coby? You here?”

A huge dog ran up and jumped on her.

“You’re not Coby silly!” She said petting the dog. “Your name is Griffin! Silly puppy!”

“That, is not a puppy.” A shirtless man covered in tattoos said walking towards us.

“Coby!” Maddie said jumping up off the floor and all but tackling the guy.

All of a sudden there were doors flying open and people with guns pointed at us running into the house in bullet proof vests.

“NYPD!”

Maddie pulled out a gun and a badge, whoa, where did that come from.

“Federal agent drop your weapons!” They all put their guns down.

“Now let me see your warrant.” She demanded.

A man stepped forward and handed her a piece of paper.

“Are you kidding me! You came, broke down the door of a federal agent for a hunch of you thinking my father is here!? I have been undercover for three years and you just blew my cover! Idiots! I have been trying to bust my father for three years and I had the perfect cover and you ruined that! I’m calling your superior.” She whipped out her phone and dialed.

“Hey Moz, put me through to the Clarence police chief.”

“No you may not ask why.”

“Hello, I’m just dandy how are you Chief McGill, no I’m not fine! Your men just came bursting down my front door and blew my cover! I am a federal agent and I will not stand for your men breaking my door!”

“I don’t care, they are staying here until they fix that door! They also broke a window and their warrant is paper thin! Its not even signed! If I had more handcuffs I’d arrest the whole lot of them!”

“Give me a reason that I shouldn’t!”

“They had no warrant, I can have them charged with breaking and entering, They broke my front door and two windows, I can charge them with destruction of private property. They blew my cover, I have been undercover for three years trying to take down the biggest mob boss on the east coast and one of the biggest arms and drug dealers in the world and they destroyed that, as a federal agent I can have them charged with obstruction of justice, and as I have six guests and two housekeepers I can charge them with a public disturbance.”

“Well, then you better get here and fix this fucking door before I arrest these men.”

She hung up the phone and turned around to face the uniformed men behind her.

“SIT DOWN BEFORE I ARREST YOU!” They all sat down in the corner.

“Alright, well, I should talk to you guys.” She said pulling us aside, The Coby man came along although he didn’t look as shocked as the rest of us.

‘So, my name isn’t Madison Winchester, its Madeline Alexandria Widdoes, and I work for the FBI. I’m sorry you all got dragged into this. I really didn’t mean for this to happen. C-can I talk to Johnny alone, Coby, will you, um, explain this to them?” I already knew what was coming next, I knew who she was from the beginning. She sounded like she was going to cry, her voice was trembling. From my experiences, she’s tough girl, she doesn’t shed tears.

“Yeah, sure.” He said as she grabbed Johnny’s hand and pulled him away.

Alright, listen, Maddie’s father is a notorious crime boss, he smuggles drugs and weapons in and out of the country. He started off as a hitman, and ever since she found out when she was nineteen, she’s been trained as an FBI agent, she’s one of their top agents now and she’s been working to bring her own father to justice for five years, been undercover for three. Before she joined the FBI she worked for her father against her own will, stealing priceless art and jewelry.”

JOHNNY’S POV

“Johnny, we need to talk.” Maddie said as she pulled me outside.

“Johnny I’m sorry, I couldn’t tell you. I know we haven’t been anything official, and now I don’t think we ever will be, but, you were never a part of getting to my father, believe that despite what you may think, you don’t even know my father, I don’t even know him, I know he’s cold hearted, ruthless, and destructive. I, I really like you and I don’t want to put you in this sort of situation. I’m sorry.” She started to walk away from me.

“Maddie, wait.” I said grabbing her hand and pulling her back to me. “I, I think that no matter what, you’re worth it. I, Maddie, I would like it very much if you would do me the honor of maybe, agreeing to be my girlfriend? I mean, we’ve gone on countless more or less successful dates on our way from Cali to here, and I really was just to scared to ask you, but now I’m more scared that you’re going to try to walk away from me again, walk out of my life, you’re honestly, probably the best thing that ever happened to me and I don’t think I can handle losing you.”

“Oh Johnny,” She sighed. “I would very much like that.”

I smiled and leaned in to kiss her lips, she smiled as our lips met and wrapped her arms around my neck and my hands were on her hips, she pressed her thin frame against mine and I smiled. It wasn’t anything rushed, it wasn’t anything full of lust, it was, forgive me if I sound like a girl, perfect. We heard cheering and clapping, we turned and saw the guys cheering and Maddie’s friend Coby smiling.

The doorbell rang and Maddie walked over to answer it.

“Chief.” She said not even bothering with being polite. “Who authorized them to break into my house.”

“That would be me, ma’am.”

“And why did you do that?”

“I, well, I had a hunch.”

“And do you have anything to say for yourself as to why I shouldn’t have your badge on my desk? Seeing as what you did was illegal I should arrest you right here.”

“Because, you’re already dead.” He said. We heard the click of a gun being cocked. “Now put down your gun.”

“You know, the one thing I can’t stand is a dirty cop.” She said. “But, you know, thinking about it, there is one other thing that I can’t stand. A dumb cop.”

She turned around and in one swift motion, knocked down the man behind her with the gun and he was out cold. The police chief charged at her and, well, she’s a well trained FBI agent, she flipped him and handcuffed him.

“Stay down.”

She dialed something into her phone.

“Hey Mozie, ya wanna send federales to mi casa chico? I‘ve got quite a few scumbags here.”

“Thanks chico.” She said hanging up.

“Hablas espanol?” Brian asked.

“Yes, along with French, Italian, German, Mandarin Chinese and I also can read and write Latin.”

“You don’t speak Latin?”

“Latin is a dead language, it isn’t spoken.”

There was a knock at the door.

“That was fast, then again, it was Mozie, he could get God to my house if I asked him. COME IN!” She shouted walking to the door.

“Auggie! Sweetheart how are you? I haven’t seen you since, oh God, Paris? When were you stationed around here?” She hugged him and I couldn’t help but notice how much more attractive he is than I am. He didn’t take off his sunglasses when he walked into the house, which I thought was a little odd.

“Anything to see you again Kitten. Well, not exactly see, per say, but you get the point.” When he kissed her cheek I couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealously run through me.

“Well, Auggie, I would like to introduce you to someone. Johnny c’mere baby.” She said.

I walked over and the man stuck out his hand.

“Auggie, this is my boyfriend Johnny.” She said leading his hand to mine.

“Now that formal introductions are over I think that we can have the rest of the team take these dirt bags away and we can all sit down for some dinner, you shouldn’t be out in the field Auggie, I thought that they took you out of fieldwork after the um, accident.” Maddie said as the rest of the FBI agents started to arrest and lead the police chief and the other officers out of the house in handcuffs.

“Kitten, they did take me out of field work but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t take the opportunity to come and visit with you when it was presented to me!”

“Oh Auggie you’re so dumb sometimes!” She said laughing. “I’m going to go start on dinner, why don’t you stay here with Johnny and the rest of the boys.”

“Alright don’t have too much fun without me Kitten!” He said laughing.

We all sat down on the couch, Auggie using some high tech laser pointer to find his way there.

“So, Johnny, how long have you been sleeping with Maddie?”

“We’re not, um sleeping together.”

“Do you not find her attractive? I mean, before I lost my sight she was quite the looker. And if memory serves quite…good in bed.”

“Were you… together… at one time?” I asked cautiously.

“Yeah, we were.”

“Why’d it end.”

“Well, when I lost my sight, well she still thinks its her fault. It wasn’t, but, she was there. I shielded her from an explosive, it was my own choice.”

“Oh, um, I.. I don’t really know what to say to that.”

“May I tell you a story, Johnny?”

“Yeah, sure.”

“There once was a girl, she was stunningly beautiful, she had a body to die for, but she was troubled. She never let anyone behind the walls she built around herself. One day, an agent from the cyber wing was transferred to become a field agent. He swept her off her feet and he learned why she was so distraught. He had dropped in for a surprise visit one night and found her with a gun to her head. Tears were pouring down her face, her eyes were closed and the gun cocked. She opened her eyes and saw her lover standing there, mouth agape. She mouthed ‘I’m sorry’ before she was about to pull the trigger. He tackled her and tossed the gun away, she was laying on the rug bawling her eyes out, they weren’t the crystal blue, they were bloodshot red. He rolled off of her and laid beside her on the floor, pulling her close. She cried for hours sobbing out incomprehensible words and apologies. He didn’t have to ask why, because he knew why. All he had to do way comfort her, he had no way to help her no matter how much he wanted to. About three months later they became partners, work wise, as the agency had no idea about their intimate encounters after hours.”

“What happened then?” I asked.

“He fell in love, fell for her, her beauty, her personality, her everything… before she fell for him. They were in Berlin, Germany, there was an explosion and a gun shot, he dove in front of her, taking the bullet and the full force of the explosion. He was in the hospital for ten weeks, he lost his sight, they determined that he wasn’t ever getting it back. His bullet wound healed up fine, but they still had to take him out of the field, he was put back into the cyber wing, back into the basement. He didn’t regret sacrificing himself for her, he still doesn’t. But, she came and pulled him out of the basement because she wanted to talk, he wanted to talk to. He was going to ask her to marry him before all this happened, but after it did he felt that she deserved someone that could love her the way she needed to be loved. Someone who could see, see her and cherish her for everything that she was. There were tears, but in the end she understood. They’re still friends to this day, best friends, the kind that never fight, the kind that are going to be friends forever. Now there is a new chapter in the story, now that she’s met someone new, but the man that always loved her, will always love her, but not in the way that he thought he did. He man loved her, but he also lusted for her. Now, its nothing sexual, its pure, almost like family. Almost, because even if he did still love her she would never love him back.” He said as I saw a single tear run down his face.

“There’s another part to the story, isn’t there?” I asked.

“Yes, but its… I just, can’t tell you. Its too painful.” He said wiping away the sing tear as Maddie walked into the room.

“Dinner’s ready boys!” She said cheerfully before noticing the somber mood in the room.

“Auggie? Oh, you, um you told him didn’t you?” She asked coming to sit with us.

“I, I just couldn’t tell him all of it, not, not what happened to her.”

“Oh Auggie,” She said starting to cry. The guys and I all looked at each other before looking back at them. We had no idea what was going on.

“He hates it, he hates living with a hole in his heart from what he could have prevented.” Auggie sobbed out. “They were having a daughter, and neither of them knew until it was too late. She was injured in the line of duty, in the hospital she was told not only that she was pregnant, but she had lost her baby girl. He doesn’t blame her, because it was his fault, he should have known, he could have stopped it before it happened.”

Then Maddie spoke up. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that this story was about them. “She hates knowing that he doesn’t want her anymore, she’s tried to move on, she thought she was going to finally fall in love again when she met a spiky haired, tattooed boy with sweet, caring, genuine words, but then, in just a matter of coincidence, he walked back into her life and now she questions everything. She never stopped loving him, but now she has to choose. She can’t, and life is just coming down on her like a boulder. Sometimes, she wishes he didn’t stop her that day, wishes he would have just let her die, she would have never been so stupid, she wouldn’t have had a baby to lose. She wouldn‘t have caused the only person she had ever loved all this pain.”

We didn’t know what to think, we didn’t know what to say. We knew, I knew, that Maddie would never be happy with anyone but Auggie, that I would have never meant to her what he meant to her.
“I can’t do this! I can’t sit here and do this anymore! I love you Auggie! I always have and I haven’t ever been able to stop! But I can’t do this to Johnny! Its not fair! I can’t do this! I just can’t do this!” She said throwing her gun and badge on the floor, for whatever reason, and running out of the house.

“Maddie? Maddie!?” Auggie shouted. He pulled out his cellphone and dialed someone.

“Mozie! Thank God! Maddie ran off! No! This is really important! I need you to access her tracker, find out where she is.”

He put his phone on speaker and placed it on the couch, searching with his outreached hand for his laser light. Matt picked it up off the floor and handed it to him.

“Oh my God! Oh! Oh God! Auggie!” We heard yelled through the phone.

“What? What is it?!”

“She’s moving, running by the speed.”

“Where’s she going.”

“Oh my god straight towards the cliff!”

“Oh my god! No! How close is she?”

“She’s almost there. Oh my god! Auggie, you don’t think that she’ll jump do you?”

“Mozie, I know if she gets there she’s not stopping. God its all my fault!” He yelled as he collapsed to his knees on the floor in hysterical tears.

“Auggie… she just… she just jumped. I‘m having units sent there right now by helicopter.”

“No!” Still with tears flowing down his face he scraped his hands on the floor, searching out the gun, her gun. Before anyone could do anything he put a bullet through his brain.

“Auggie? Auggie!?” The man on the other end of the phone shouted.

“He… he just shot himself… with Maddie’s gun.”

“Oh my god. Stay there I’ll have more agents sent to your location. I’m on my way.”

We sat there, for about ten minutes and the door was opened. A thin bald man with thick framed glasses walked in and saw Auggie’s body on the floor in his own blood still bleeding. He came and checked for a pulse but it was no use, he was gone.

“They’ll need you to give fingerprints and statements.” He said getting up from on his knees. He walked out of the house without another word.

The next day we attended their memorial service, it was a private service, but they did give a public announcement about the loss of two federal agents they said exactly what happened, they told the tale just like they had, of love, and loss, from their time in Berlin all the way up to their suicides. They said that through their years they served their country honorably, and they deserve the respect of everyone in the nation. I couldn’t believe that something that I really loved had taken themselves from me like that. I left a note, before, you know, I off’d myself. I couldn’t take the fact that she would have never loved me anyways, it was always going to be him.

Well, there it is, the end, not the way I thought it was going to end, but it just happened.
