A Shot in the Dark

I gripped my steering wheel with clenched fists; I could see my knuckles straining under the pressure, I was squeezing too tight, I didn’t care. I glanced up to see my old house fading behind me in the rear view mirror. I had known for a while that it was time to leave my old life behind and start fresh. It’s something that was easier said than done. I can’t remember exactly when the hitting started, but I know I was young. My arms are covered in bruises from being grabbed and thrown around and my right wrist is permanently swollen from the minor fracture that failed to receive medical attention. I can feel a tear start to slide down my face as I realize what’s ahead. I’ll have to get a restraining order; I know he’ll come looking for me. His last words to me still echo in my head like a broken record player. If you ever run away, I’ll find you. I fucking swear I’ll come after you, you useless piece of shit. Bitch, go fuck yourself.
  1. One.
    Leaving it all behind.
  2. Two.
She was just a little girl..
