Killing Me Slowly

Since When? Part 2

This girl was helpful to us…but there was just something about her that didn’t seem right. If she was trying to string us along she was definitely a good actress.

“I can't do this, man. I can't live on rabbit food. I'm a warrior” Dean complained as we walked out of the market. “Dean, you'll be fine” Sam told him. “Hey if I can do it then you can certainly do it” I said. “So what's next on the list?” Brit asked.

“Well, if we're bum-rushing the Alpha, then we're gonna need dead man's blood, which means a morgue. Or…” I started but then stopped. “Or what?” Sam asked.

“Dude, forget the morgue. We are swimming in vamp poison” I said as I headed over to this spaced out dude sitting on a bench as he was blankly sipping out of a cup.

“Excuse me, sir. Hi. We uhhh we're with the…Red Cross? See, we have an emergency shortage. And we're gonna need you to…” Sam started. “You’re not getting a word of this, are you” Brit assumed.

“Hey. Hold out your arm. We need your blood” Dean ordered, snapping his finger at him as he took a sit beside the guy. “Dude!” Sam scolded. I couldn’t help but giggle as the vacant man obeyed with ease. I took a seat on the other side of the guy. “Alright, Dr. Brit. Tap the keg” Dean handed her the syringe.

“Here?” she asked incredulous.

“Look around you, guys. It's friggin Woodstock. Everybody's hopped up on the brown acid. We don't need the song and dance. Give him a little prick” I said.

“Fine” she huffed and stuck the needle in a precise spot in the guy’s arm. He smiled at Dean with the straw in his mouth and then at me. We both smiled back at him.

“Ow…that kind of hurts. This is for Hurricane Katrina, you said?” he asked blankly.

“Why yes. Yes I did” I nodded with a smile.

“So look when we get there…” Sam started and threw a glance back at the Emily sleeping in the car. “Bobby's gonna have to hang back. Do any of you disagree?”

“He ain't gonna like it. I mean, he helped us in getting Emily” Dean noted.

“Look, I'm Team Bobby, too. Okay? But there's a reason we left him in the car with Emily. You know that. The more action he sees, the more chance he gets to spin out”

Brit and I shared a look. “He has a point Dean. We don’t know what could happen” she spoke up.

“All right, fine. So, we'll keep him off the front lines and he can just, you know, keep calm and carry on, right?” he finally said.

Then a police car went driving by and we did our best to act like we weren’t taking this man’s blood. “And if he can’t?” I murmured. Dean looked at me sadly.

“Are you guys sure we can trust Emily?” I whispered, changing the subject. They all waited for me to continue. “I don’t know…something just doesn’t seem right about this…it was almost as if…everything at that mansion was set up to make us think she needed our help…so we would take her with us…I don’t know…come on, lets just get out of here. This town creeps me out” I said, shrugging it off as I walked back to the car. I could feel all of them watching me carefully…wondering what was up with me…why I was so paranoid…but they didn’t call me out on it. They just followed.

As night fell, Emily gave us instructions as to where she was taken and she told us what she remembered. She was pretty descriptive…descriptive enough anyway. We manage to pinpoint the alphas campsite at a monastery…ironically enough. So then we took Emily to a motel to keep her safe there while we invaded the vamps lair. We locked Bobby up in a safe, which he was definitely not happy about, and then we headed out.

It was day now. “Well, this time of day, most of them would be catching z's. They won't know what hit them” Dean said as we were scoping out the front of the monastery. But I noticed something was wrong. “Hey. You two with us?” I asked Sam and Brit.

“Yea…”

“But?”

“Are you sure you just want to charge in there, machetes blazing? Last time, it took a dozen hunters to take down the Alpha. And most of them didn't make it out” Sam said. “Yeah, well, you got a better idea?” Sam asked. They both exchanged a look.

The next thing I knew…we were simply walking up to the front door…just like that. “Stupid, stupid, stupid” Dean muttered. “I can’t believe we’re doing this” I shook my head. Sam and Brit shushed us.

We headed up the stairs and Sam pushed open the door. “Maybe we're too late…” Dean started.

But then Brit started to step inside and someone grabbed her, yanking her inside. “Brittney!” we all yelled, lunging in after her. But before I knew it, something was grabbing me too, along with Dean and Sam. Yea, real nice plan guys.

We were brought into a dining room that gave off a very dreary feeling and at the head of a table in front of us was the alpha vamp…waiting for us. “Well…Stern, Hails and the Winchesters. I'm intrigued” he spoke chillingly. Then…Emily walked through the door and over to the alpha.

“Emily” Sam spoke, shocked.

“Hi, Sam” she smiled.

“Wow. For a girl raised in a basement, you're a hell of an actress” Dean chuckled humorlessly. When will I learn to listen to my instinct the first time?

“You were gonna hurt my daddy” she pouted.

“Wow. You get a trophy in Stockholm Syndrome. And sorry to burst your bubble but uhh we weren't. Sam and Brittney here had a better idea” I glared.

“We're here to talk. That's it” Brit said.

The alpha laughed. “Now that my guys have taken your blades and your syringes of tainted blood. Is that what you mean?”

“Well we uhh figured you might hold a grudge” Dean said.

“And why would I? Because you captured me, tortured me and sold me to the king of Hell?” he said bitterly.

“That was more our grandparents”

But then the vampire holding Dean slammed his head down onto the table and Dean fell to his knees. My eyes widened and I felt myself go into survival mode for him. I elbowed upward into the vamp’s face so he let go and then I swung my leg around and hit the vamp, that was holding Dean, off his feet and he was sent flying into the wall. The other two that were holding Brit and Sam went to come after me but I simply held out one hand like a sharp blade toward them both and they stopped in their tracks. I helped Dean to his feet.

“Thank you. That was awesome” he grunted as he wiped away the blood from his nose. “I'm going to peel off your faces and drink you slowly” the alpha growled, his eyes meeting mine.

“No. You’re not. You can feel how stronger I obviously got. You’re scared and you need us” I snapped, holding Dean up. I felt the others tense.

“Oh yes, I am thirsty” he replied and I could feel him getting angry and agitated with my superior attitude but he was not going to have one over on me. “The plague. We know what it is. You know about the leviathan, I’m sure”

“I know a bit”

“And you know they're poisoning the food supply?”

“Roman didn't mention that when we met for dinner last fall. We made lots of plans. We are on excellent terms, he and I.

“You sure about that? Did he mention that he was going to…Maui wowie the human population?” Dean quipped.

“Oh, of course. He said grabbing a snack would be easier than ever.

“He said you'd all live together, didn't he? You really believe him? You think your children are dying by accident? There is pesticide in the formula!” Sam spoke.

“It suits you to think so. You need me on your side”

“Look, we're not the ones burning from the inside out. Think about it. Whatever deal he made with you was crap! Trust us” Brit said.

“Why are you telling me this?”

“Because we can stop Dick. Stop all of it. We just…we need your blood…for the weapon”

“So now you want to prevent the extermination of the vampire race”

“No. But it beats going down with you” I glared.

“Allan, darling…come” he said and then a little boy came walking in.

“Well, the creep gets creepier” Dean commented.

“What's wrong?”

“Edgar's here”

We all exchanged a look as the alpha dismissed Allan. “Wow, what a funny coincidence. All right, we need soap, uh, cleanser, anything with borax in it. We need knives” Dean said quickly.

“Put them in the study”

“What? No. No, wait” Sam tried.

“Word of advice, kids. You do not live through centuries of fire and ice and continental divide…by jumping to conclusions” And so we were escorted to the study.

There were bags of blood all around the room, it was a bit overwhelming. We tried to unlock the doors from the inside but it was no use. “You think Edgar's here for the same reason we are? I mean, look, if they figured out that we're here to get Alpha blood for a weapon…” Sam started thinking.

“I think any way you slice it, you got Pac Man and True Blood in the same room and that's bad news. I mean, he's not stupid. Why the hell do you think he locked us in here?” Dean said.

“Dean, we're his enemy. I mean, they're like monster cousins or something. Who would you give the benefit of the doubt to? Man, you know what? Maybe the Sucro is poisoning the vamps on accident. Maybe they'll fix it”

“I think you got the oldest monster on earth thinking that he can hold his own because he always has”

“Edgar's gonna eat him alive”

“Okay, out of the way. I’m picking the lock with this” I said as I took a needle from one of the empty blood bags.

“But Mel, we gave up all our Vamptonite” Brit mentioned. “Did we?” I smirked, taking a syringe out of my boot as Dean did the same. I got down on my knees and started to work on the lock.

“So…since when are you stronger than vamps?” Dean asked.

“Since when am I stronger at all? Since when have I had an interest in the powers that I’m capable of? Since when did I start agreeing to work with monsters to fix our problems? Since when is it okay for our dead uncle to think it’s alright to go against everything he’s ever taught us? So many questions and not enough time to figure out the answer to all of them” I sighed and that was when I heard the click and the door swung open. I stood to my feet. “Well…here we go” I said and headed out as they hesitantly followed.

We tried to stealthily find our way back to the dining room and save our syringes…but then two vamps came out and attacked us so the vamptonite was needed. So then we needed new weapons, which was when we found the kitchen knives. Then we ran back into the dining room and saw Edgar and the alpha fighting against each other. Edgar’s face transformed, ready to finish off the vamp but we all got into positions as Dean spun him around quickly and went to slash him with the knife but he grabbed his arm. So that was my cue to run up behind him and I easily cut off his head. He fell to the ground.

“Grab a glass. We're juicing this freak” Dean ordered.

“No!” Emily exclaimed.

“Stay back!” he pointed the knife at her.

Then the alpha sent Dean flying across the table. Brit raced to his side. “Leave her alone. She's been through quite enough”

“Now, that's rich…coming from the guy who took her off the swing-set” Sam commented.

“Do you want to do this fight? Or do you want my blood?” he asked. We all watched him as he sat at the table, sliced his wrist with his fingernail and his blood dripped into a glass cup. He offered it to me. “For taking care of Edgar. Now go”

“What about the little boy?” Brit demanded.

“Are you joking?”

“Do we look like we're joking? How many other kids you got in here, you freak?” Dean asked.

“At the moment, just him” We all stared him down. “Emily. Help Allan with his coat. He's leaving with Sam, Dean, Melissa and Brittney. Now, take it”

So I stepped forward and took the cup of blood and we all started to head toward the door. “What? No thank you? Oh, right, right. Your flesh is crawling. All you really want to do is kill me now. You hate having to wait and come back and try again”

“Pretty much. I wouldn't leave that head too close to that body for too long” Dean said.

“See you next season”

“Looking forward to it” I sneered and we all walked out.

~~

We got back to the motel and headed down the hallway. “Let's never do that again. Cops thought we took that kid” Dean said. “Long as he gets back to his folks, I don't care what they thought” Sam said.

“We had to jump out a freakin' window, man” I laughed lightly as I rolled my shoulder. “You’ve been through worse” Brit said. True.

When we got to our room…the door was open. Automatically, we all pulled out or guns. I flipped on the lights and we saw the whole room was trashed…a mirror was cracked…and there was no Bobby. “Oh no, no, no” I muttered as I raced to the closet and moved the clothes out of the way. The safe was unlocked and wide open…no flask was inside though. “Damn it!” I cursed and the lights blew out…thanks to me.

Brit went to the window and opened the curtains to let the sun in so we had some light. “I'm getting trace bits of EMF, but it's fading fast. And Bobby's probably been gone three or four hours. He's got the flask, guys. How the hell are we supposed to track him? Look, I hate to say this…” Sam started.

“Well, then don't. He's gone. How could he do this…now? I mean, we've got half the freakin' weapon, we're almost there” “It's not him. I mean, he's not thinking” Brit tried.

“So what, we just keep going while he's out there like this?”

“Do we have any other option?” I sighed.

“It's what he'd want us to do. Right?” Sam wondered. I really don’t know anymore….

“Yeah. Yeah, him and Frank and Cas, if his marbles were in the bag. It's a good thing we got Crowley in our corner. Right? Seeing as how it all comes down to him. What could possibly go wrong?” Dean said helplessly. Everything….
