Dreams Lie Right

just trying to get by

“Take my hand.”

She blinked in shock. “What?” she questions.

“Take my hand.”

She lifted her hand with little fear, but only hesitant.

He smiled and pulled her into him.

Shana was fearful for a moment as she took several steps toward the ledge before them.

“Do you trust me, fully, Shana?” he asked.

She was so very hesitant, but nodded. “Yes.”

“Time will not wait, my little Shana. It will always be moving and you cannot stop for it. It is something at that must be just stepped into and gone.”

She looked up at him “Malcolm.”

“Come along with me and I will show you the world again.”

She looked uncertain again.

“Hold out your hand.”

She did as he said.

He placed a simple fingertip in her open palm.

Sparks flew from her palm as his touch lifted a light blue creature from the center.

“Excalibur.” she squealed.

“You know him?”

“Yes, yes. He is my imaginary friend from when I was little.”

“Set him free and allow time forward.”

Shana looked at her little elephant.

“Fly, my little friend. Fly, fly.”

The little elephant looked at her before it turned without a second thought and flew away.

“Time for us to go as well.”

She turned just as he took her hands and jumped off the ledge.

She fell with him.

“Shana!”

She opened her eyes and sat up.

“Shana?” a young boy asked.

“Yes?”

“Mama! She’s alive!” he yelled, running into the other room.

“Malcolm, don’t be silly; Shana’s coma took her last night,” the doctor told her son.

“No, she’s right there!” he insisted.

The doctor looked into the room again, seeing only a white sheet covering a fresh bed.

“Malcolm. That’s enough.”

The young boy peeked around the corner just in time to see a little blue elephant fly around the girl and whisk her into an explosion of sparks.

“Sweet dreams, Shana,” he whispered.
