If I Die Young

Chapter 13

*Sophia's P.O.V.*

The next morning, I woke up in my bed, still in my dress. I wondered where Johnny was, since I had fallen asleep on him...

I got ready for the day, before I decided to call Johnny. After a few rings, he hadn't answered and I got his voicemail. I shrugged, not bothering to leave a message, because he'd see my missed call and call back when he had the chance.

When I walked downstairs, it was only Dad, Mom, and Kenna in the kitchen. "Look who's finally up," Dad smiled, taking a drink of his coffee.

"How long was I asleep for?" I asked, running my hands through my hair.

He simply shrugged. "You fell asleep on Johnny at about ten last night." I looked at the clock and noticed that it was eleven.

"Wow... Guess I was really tired," I said, grabbing a cup of coffee.

"Do you want me to make you some breakfast, Sweetie?" Mom asked.

I shook my head. "It's okay, Mom, thanks anyway. I think I'm going to head down to the peir."

"What's Johnny-boy doing today?" Dad asked as he looked through some papers.

"I'm not sure. I tried calling him to see if he wanted to come with me to the peir, but he didn't answer. He's probably still asleep or something."

"Yeah, it was a long night," Dad said, nodding. He had no idea... But when I didn't respond, he looked up from his papers and gave me a look. "So, what do you think?"

"About what?" I asked, fixing my shirt, simply trying to busy my hands with something.

"About your brother proposing to Michelle."

I shrugged. "It is what it is, I guess. Surprised me, really." He was about to say something, but I cut him off. "I won't be out too long. I'll make sure to let you guys know if I'm going to be out later than I expect." I grabbed my bag and phone, before heading out the door. I really didn't feel like walking there today, so I took the car instead.

Once I got down to the peir, I found my favorite spot to sit, and pulled out my book. This was one of my favorite pass times and was always relaxing.

A little bit later, my phone started ringing. I looked at the screen and smiled when I saw that it was Johnny. "Well hello there, Sleepy Head," I said, teasing him.

"Hey, you." It was something he would normally say to me, but I couldn't help but notice something in the tone of his voice that just wasn't right...

"Did you just wake up?"

"No, I've been up for a little bit."

"Oh..." Maybe he had been busy when I had called? But I couldn't help but hear that other little voice in my head saying that, 'maybe he had just been ignoring me this morning'.

"Yeah... So, what's up?"

"Not much, I'm just sitting down at the peir right now, reading. I thought maybe you'd want to hang out today?"

There was a slight pause before he answered. "I actually can't today."

Odd... "Okay, maybe tomorrow then?"

"I'm gonna be pretty busy for the next couple of days."

"Oh... Okay...."

He sighed. "I'll talk to you later?" It was more of a question than a statement.

"Yeah, sure," I mumbled, before hanging up. I had no idea why I felt so disapointed, but it was confusing. Last night we were fine, he even kissed me! Then... He tries to completly avoid me this whole week? I couldn't be that bad of a kisser, could I?

After the call, I couldn't really focus on my book anymore. I decided to just head home and see what Dad was up to today. Maybe I could spend the day with him.

While I was driving, I got a call from Matt, so I answered. "Hey, Little Miss I have that cd you were wanting to borrow. I finally found it in a random pile in the music room."

"Oh, awesome." He was so random sometimes.

"You wanna come pick it up? Or I can drop it of sometime tomorrow while I'm out running around?"

"I can come grab it now, if that's okay?" Hell, I had nothing else to do today...

"Of course that's fine. You know you can always randomly pop in, you don't need an invatation," he said, scoffing.

"Ever since the last time Jimmy and I randomly showed up at your and Val's house... It was scary...." I mumbled, shaking my head.

He just started laughing. "Okay, I give you that one. But when we don't answer the door, that should have been a hint!"

"I didn't know you guys go at it like damn rabbits!"

"We do not go at it like rabbits!"

"Okay, Matthew..."

He sighed. "Alright, Missy. Just come on in when you get here. I promise it's safe."

"I'll be there soon," I said, lauging before I hung up.

When I pulled up to his house, I saw Jimmy and Zacky's cars out front. As I walked into the house, I heard noises coming from the living room. As I walked into the living room, I found the boys playing video games. I was surprised though when I saw Johnny sitting on the couch with them. He seemed surprised to see me too.

"Hey, Soph," Matt said, not looking away from the t.v. Him and Zack were currently playing one of their video games, and it seemed like Matt was wining.

"What're you up to today, Kiddo?" Jimmy asked.

"Just being bored," I said, shrugging my shoulders. I swear I thought a look of guilt crossed Johnny's face.

"Why don't you hang out with us? We're just being a bunch of bums today, but we can be bums together," Zack said, giving a small smile.

"I'm not sure..." I mumbled. I didn't want to seem like I was staying here just to be around Johnny. He obviously was avoiding me for some reason, so why stick around and make the situation even more awkward?

"What else are you going to do today? Go home and read?" Jimmy asked, crossing his arms.

"Shut up," I grumbled, crossing my arms over my chest.

"It's not a bad thing to enjoy reading, Soph," he said, laughing at my pouty glare that I was sending him. "I'm just saying, why don't you just have fun and hang out with us? We're a hell of a lot more fun than a book." He really did have a point there...

"Come on, Soph. You know there is no arguing with Jimmy," Zack said, now frowning and getting pissed at the game.

The whole time they were trying to get me to hang out, Johnny still hadn't said anything, or even looked at me. Maybe I would stay, just to be a brat...

"Sure, I guess I could stay," I shrugged.

"See! You know you can't resist us!" Jimmy yellled in victory.

I laughed, shaking my head. "I'm going to go grab a drink," I told them, before walking into the kitchen. Just a few seconds later, Johnny walked in behind me. I honestly had just come in for a drink... I wasn't trying to send him code for anything.

"Look, Soph when I talked to you earlier-"

I cut him off, holding my hand up. "Don't even worry about it, Johnny. You don't need to explain anything." I grabbed a water out of the fridge, before I went to head back to the living room. I stopped though, actually wanting to say something. "You know, if you didn't want to hang out, you could have just said so. I would have understood," I mumbled.

He sighed, running his hand through his hair. "It really wasn't like that at all, Soph." I suddenly saw the bruise on his jaw line.

"What the hell happened?" I asked, gently running my fingers over it.

"It's nothing, just had a stupid moment last night," he mumbled, brushing it off.

There was no way I was believing that lame story. "What really happened, John?" I asked, wanting to know the truth.

"Don't worry about it, Soph."

"You can't tell me not to be worried about a random bruise on your face, Johnny!" Was he out of his mind?

"I had a bit more to drink than I thought last night and tripped off the curb going to my car. Really, I'm fine, Soph I promise."

I sighed, shrugging. "Alright." I went to turn away from him, but he caught my hand and pulled me into a hug.

"Really, you don't need to worry, Hun," he whispered into my hair. "Now, let's go back out their and watch Zack throw the controler at the t.v." I laughed, knowing he wasn't joking.
