Losing Innocence

“So when are we leaving tomorrow?” Mikayla asked as we walked into her room.

“Not really early but early enough so nine?” I asked changing into my pjs.

“Before you get all comfy you need to take a shower cause you won’t want to in the morning.” Mikayla put her hands on her hips.

“True.” I got up to take a quick shower.

“So do you want me to wake you up at eight?” Mikayla asked as I got back in bed.

“Yeah. Please.” I smiled at her.

“No problem.” she smiled back and kissed me.

“Hey girls.” Miki’s dad said as we pulled away from each other.

“Hey daddy.” Mikayla said from behind me.

“You good?” he asked her.

“Yeah. Are you?” she replied.

“Yes.” he chuckled.

“Are you sure?” she smiled sitting up on her knees.

“Yes.” he smiled walking toward her.

“Are you really sure?” she put her hands on her hips.

“Yes.” he copied her movements.

“Are you super sure?” she laughed.

“Yes!” he shouted picking her up and swinging her around.

He put her down and she wrapped her arms around his torso tightly. He hugged her shoulders just as tightly kissing her head.

“Alright baby go to sleep.” he kissed her forehead.

“Night love you.” she smiled up at him.

“Love you too.” he smiled down at her.

“What was that?” I asked after he closed the door.

“It’s something we used to do when I was little.” she snuggled under the covers.

“Ah.” I snuggled closer to her.

“I love you.” she said sleepily,

“I love you.” I mumbled and kissed her before drifting off to sleep.

“Rylon!” I heard my father scream.

“Yes sir?” I replied.

“Where is your mother?” he boomed.

I flinched away from his voice. “I don’t know.” I shook my head.

He raised his hand causing me to flinch for the coming hit.

“Tell me where she is!” he yelled.

“I told you I didn’t know!” I yelled back regretting it immediately.

The back of his hand came down hard across my cheek causing me to fall. He grabbed a handful of my hair and picked me up.

He got in my face. “You know exactly where your whore mother is, now tell me!”

“Don’t call her a whore!” I punched his jaw.

He didn’t expect me to hit him so he stumbled and dropped me. I ran as fast as my feet would carry me but it wasn’t fast enough. His arms snaked around my waist as he slammed me down on the floor. He hovered above me.

“Listen to me. I know you know where your mother is so why don’t you make it easier on yourself and tell me.” he stared at me.

“Go to hell.” I brought my hand up to slap him but he quickly pinned my wrists above my head.

“Where do you think I came from?” he growled in my ear.

I whimpered.

“Rylon! Rylon Jae!” I was being shaken.

I opened my eyes to find Mikayla sitting above me looking terrified.

“Huh?” I rubbed my eyes.

“Are you okay?” she asked brushing the hair out of my face.

“Yeah. Why?” I sat up.

“You were screaming and whimpering. What were you dreaming about?” she sat back on her knees.

“Oh nothing.” I laid my head back down on the pillow.

“Bull. Who were you screaming at?” she laid down next to me.

“My dad.” I mumbled.

“Why?” she ran her fingers through my hair.

“Because he was being mean.” a tear slipped down my cheek. I quickly wiped it away hoping she didn’t see it.

“Mean about what?” she asked.

“My mom.” I wiped another tear.

“Oh. Where is your mom?” she put my head in her lap.

“Home, I guess.” I shrugged. “What time is it?”

“8:30.” she yawned.

“We need to go.” I got up and walked to the bathroom. I did my business, brushed my teeth and hair then walked to Mikayla’s closet. I changed into shorts, a t-shirt, and a pair of sandals. While I did my make-up Mikayla got ready. When I was done with my make-up I sat on the bed while Miki finished.

“Ready?” she asked as she emerged from her closet wearing a little sundress.

“You look cute.” I smiled.

“So do you.” she smiled back.

“Let’s go.” I grabbed my wristlet and keys. Miki left a little note to her dad telling him where we had gone then we walked to the car. As I was pulling out of the driveway she plugged my ipod in and hit play. Have Faith in Me by A Day to Remember started playing. She started it over and we both sang along.
