Just a Dream

Waking up.

“I had a nightmare that you left,” Melody says in the crowded bar, running her ring finger along the rim of the bubbly beer glass, the small diamond glittering, resting on a circle of gold.
“Really?” Brendon asks, interested. “What happened?”
She fixes him with a glare. “You left, Brendon. Do you really want me to explain it?”

With a shock, Brendon awakens in his bedroom, all alone except for the humming fan and the glasses cruelly winking at him from the bedside table. Sighing to himself, he rolls over and drifts back to a sleep full of stars that refuse to quiet down.
