Someone's Precious

The Mansion

Charles Xavier watched the girl who stood before them. Her head was bowed and the once tangled mass of curls had become a wave of brown silk. Though his powers were not empathic by nature, he could easily see how uncomfortable she was standing there in the clean cotton gown that Jean had found for her amongst the female students. Charles had allowed himself to drift amongst her open thoughts and memories while she had slept. It had not been hard. After all, she had almost projected them. It was something that he had never seen before in all the humans and mutants that he had met. It was as if all of her senses simply did not know how to shut themselves away. Her thoughts and abilities merely roamed freely around her without restriction.

It was truly an unheard of curiosity.

"I know what you believe," he said moving his chair forward so that he sat before the girl. "But we cannot and will not call you a demon. We would like to give you a name if you will allow us. It would be any name that you so chose. For even demons have names." He heard Logan growl softly behind him and shift. He didn't like saying it any more than Logan enjoyed hearing it. But it was necessary. He had to keep that in mind. He only hoped that Logan would realize that and know that for now, it was simply best for the older man to say nothing.

The girl's face was composed in a delicate frown as she considered what he had said. He wondered if her logic could extend to what he had just offered her. Her mind had such an odd kind of logic that he honestly couldn't say which way that it would say in thought. "May I....may I has the name of Rahab?" she asked, her head still bowed. Her eyes flicked up and Charles caught them. There was such a lost innocence in those eyes. He doubted she even realized it was there. From the conversation that Rogue had told him she had had with the girl, she probably wouldn't believe it if she was told.

"Jean, could you please show Rahab to the girl's dormitories? Storm, Kurt, Logan, I would like to speak with the three of you before you leave." Charles watched as Jean walked forward and place a gentle hand on the girl's shoulder. He sighed when Scott moved behind her. He really would have to have a fatherly discussion with the young man in regards to how possessive he seemed to be over his young love. He could not exactly blame the man in some regards, but in others, he truly did wish that Scott could realize that sometimes it was best to...stand aloof.

The three he had chosen waited in silence until he door closed behind the others. He turned first to Kurt and smiled. "I do not believe that I have had the chance to properly welcome you the mansion. I am Professor Charles Xavier and I welcome you to our home."

Dark blue lips curled back to reveal slightly pointed teeth that should have looked menacing, but didn't as the young man across from him smiled. "My name ist Kurt Wagner, but in the Munich Circus I was known as the Incredible Nightcrawler!" Charles smiled nodding. He had watched the connection between Kurt and the girl, Rahab. If anyone could help her realize she was not a demon, he had no doubt that it would be this man. He simply would have to watch him carefully. After all, as much as he would simply like to trust the man and have done with it, as he had learned once so many years ago, that just was not possible.

But a man could hope, couldn't he?
