The "Other Girl"

But when Aubrey and I were in 4th grade
And barely knew each other,
She would decide to sit next
To me on the swings
And we would start talking.
We didn’t know it then,
But when we got too high on the swings
And I decided to jump off,
I would hit the ground too hard
And break my leg.
I didn’t know it then,
But Aubrey would run to get our teacher
And tell her what happened
And when the ambulance would get there,
Aubrey would throw a fit
Until she was allowed to ride with me.
We didn’t know it then,
But we’d become best friends.
