The "Other Girl"

"Stay away from my boyfriend."

I blink and say, “What?”
“You heard me,” Caitlin says,
Stepping too close to me.
“Stay away from my boyfriend,”
She hisses.
“If you don’t, there will be consequences.”
I look at Caitlin like she’s crazy.
It wouldn’t surprise me if one day,
Men in white coats come
To haul her off
And put her in a rubber room
With a straight jacket.

I snicker at this,
This picture I’ve created,
And Caitlin snaps,
“Do you think I’m joking?
Well, just wait and see, Severino.”
She swishes her perfectly blonde hair
And the ends graze my face,
Filling my nose with the strawberry shampoo
She uses. She pushes her way
Through the crowd, and the sea
Just seems to part at her touch.
I wish I could do that.
