The Sword of the Earth

Flying through the air

I sat myself in a red spin chair behind the oak desk. Opposite me sat Sam and Sandie.
“Hello,” I started.
“Hey” was Sam’s reply. Sandie just nodded.
“I hear you didn’t get on well with Mrs Holly. I was going to make her your accomplice.” Sam said.
“Well, I don’t need one. I like to handle stuff on my own. If I did need an accomplice, I would like to pick her myself.” I replied smartly. Sam was my boss, but also a friend I could share my secrets with.
He had reasonably long brown hair for a man in his twenties. He was married to Sandie, who was very quiet and had shoulder length red hair. She had dyed it only a week ago. She had taken to liking red stuff; she said it matched her name.

I slid the file over to Sam.
“I don’t think I need much more explaining. It is pretty simple. Just find the sword of the earth. When that is complete the earthquake in China will stop. But only once it is connected with the other three missing swords. But I am only finding the earth one.” I stated, “I’ll do it.”
“But since you don’t like Mrs Holly as an accomplice I got you someone else.” Sam started off.
“Oh bother,” I muttered.
A door in the side wall slid open. Another child who had white skin almost the same shade as mine walked in. I straight away knew she was twelve too. She had green eyes. I had always wanted green eyes, but sadly I’m stuck with blue. But I’m still thankful.
“She can’t speak” Sandie said.
“Why...?” I asked
“When she was ten an accident happened. You don’t want to know. She has no tongue, but she’ll talk by her hands. It’s easy to understand. By the way of she turns away from you if she is angry.” Sandie replied. Her eyes filled with tears as she stated those words.
“Oh and by the way I brought you Lipstick. It burns through anything but human and animal flesh. Also I got you a messenger pen. As soon as you turn it on you send us a signal so we know exactly where to pick you up after your mission. Good luck.” Sandie called as I turned to walk out the room.
“Oh, plus the girls name is Ruby. Be nice, please share your apartment and you should start on your mission soon as possible. Cya.” Sam said quickly. The door shut behind us.

I looked around us. The first thing I was told to do by the map was find an airport, but it had to be Spy Galaxy airlines. I had never used Spy Galaxy airlines, and it would be hard to find because it would definitely be disguised.
“Well I have no idea where this airport is.” I told Ruby. But she seemed to know. She took my hand and tugged me along behind her. We walked down isles and crossed roads. It was nightfall by the time we reached the meadows. Across the meadows was the country side. Did Ruby even know where we were heading towards? But I had to trust her. Without her I wouldn’t know they way back home.

Ruby had let go of my hand. It was dark now. I felt for Ruby’s hand and held to it firmly. The last thing I wanted to do was lose my one trip home in between some really tall grass. We walked for hours. I tripped over a lot, and Ruby picked me up. Sometimes the opposite happened and I helped her up. We were tired. But we were determined to find the airport before we decided to rest.

Eventually Ruby stopped and crouched near the ground. She started to dig with her hands. I helped her. We worked slowly, but in about two hours we uncovered a trapdoor. We walked down a ladder and closed the trap door behind us. We were in pitch darkness. Ruby whimpered. Lights started to turn on. There were two mini planes waiting for us. Ruby smiled. So this was the Spy Galaxy Airlines. In the seats of the planes were two costumes. They were both black. We faced away from each other and quickly got dressed before stepping into our planes.

We drove down the run way, we could feel it tilting upwards. I seemed to know the way to go. A little into the ride Ruby slowed down and fell behind me, so she obviously wasn’t sure of direction. But the files had told me direction so basically I knew. We flew for a couple of minutes without a problem. But after a while I saw trouble coming. I yelled back to Ruby,
“Skyscrapers up ahead, a full cluster of them, happy dodging!!!”
The wind blew the words out of my mouth so I’m not sure she even heard, but she would see for herself in a few minutes. I looked behind at her; she gave me the thumbs up. When I faced the front again I had smashed into the top of a church, my engine was half working half not.

My plane started to veer out of control. I narrowly missed buildings, I somehow had to gain control over the wheel. The only way to gain control again was take out the piece of metal that got stuck into my engine and was blocking it. It would be a big risk, leaving my steering, which by the way wasn’t going that great already. But leaving my steering was a risk I was going to have to take.
