It was magical
It started with a boy…and ended in pure disaster.
Melynna and Lex had been dating for 7 months.
Melynna and Lex did everything together, they went to the movies every weekend, and sat together at lunch everyday. Melynna and Lex were inlove.
I’d never seen Melynna look at a guy the same way she looked at Lex.
I’m Gigi, Melynna’s best friend since 4th grade, when we met on the playground.
Melynna was climbing on the monkey bars, and a kid pushed her off.
Melynna started crying, and I punched the kid in the face.
Ever since then we’ve been best friends.
The meadow.
It was our place, Melynna and I discovered it together one summer.
I remember I was wearing my favorite daisy dukes, and my Mayday Parade tee shirt.
Melynna was wearing a green over sized tee-shirt, and short shorts.
We were walking & eating ice cream when my dog, Skittles ran in to the woods.
Melynna dropped her cone, and ran after him.
I chased after them laughing, that dog was crazy.
We walked in the woods & found a big clearing, just beyond that: the meadow.
It was quiet, and special.
No one knew about it except us (or so we thought)
The grass was a bright neon green, the type the sun reflects off and looks amazing.
The sky was babyblue and looked like a puzzle.
The pieces fit right in with the clouds.
We were exploring, when Melynna called out “Gigi, look at this!”
I ran over, and ducked under a branch.
There was a swing, swaying slowly to the breeze.
The rope was frayed and brittle & the wood of the seat was rotted.
Whoever had been here first, hadn’t been up in years.
Over grown kudzu covered a few of the trees, and blossomed in the woods.
We used to go up there every day of 8th grade summer, and hangout.
We’d laugh for hours about the stupidest things that didn’t matter.
Those tree’s know our secrets, because every single lie we’d ever told, was confessed in that meadow.
Soon, the meadow became Melynna & Lex’s place to hangout.
Melynnas parents wouldn’t let her date, so she had to sneak out to see Lex.
It was December, the air was freezing.
Melynna crawled out her window, and texted Lex.
“Meet me in 10 minutes?”
Lex replied “Just left J”
They met at the streetlamp, at the edge of the woods.
It was at the end of our neighborhood, and the usual place they met.
Melynna snuck out every night to see Lex.
She walked to the streetlight till she saw him & they’d walk through the woods up to the meadow.
They’d sit in the meadow, and stay up all night talking.
Melynna told me about one special night they were together
“We were laying there in the grass, and I had my head on his chest. I was listening to his heartbeat. The whole town was quiet, and it seemed like forever. We were holding hands, and just staring in to each other eyes. He told me he loved me. We started kissing, and he was holding me, and I was running my fingers in his hair. Then we just layed perfectly still in the grass, not saying a word for hours it seemed. We weren’t touching, just laying there. It was magical.”
Around 5 oclock they’d walk back and they’d part ways to go home. He hugged her, and kissed her on the forehead and whispered I love you…
